  1. If you have some, then the Feedback section.
  2. HB do a range of their own brand gear at different price points, so without actually knowing which specific model you mean, difficult to give a good reply. In general HB make good solid gear for the price point, don't get this confused or mistaken for good quality or especially high quality. A £120 HB jazz isn't going to play, sound or parts last as long as a £1000+ jazz. Necks and bodies, as well as general build quality is good from HB, so basically they have good bone's. Although playability, sound and feel are all subjective, so some may prefer the sound or feel of a HB over a Sire or Fender. For the low end HB gear, like any low end gear the tuners, pickups and electrics are not going to be brilliant. Change these components to you own taste and some fettling with the neck, seating frets, smoothing fret ends, even rolling the neck will all make a very good bass at a lower price point than a stock Sire or Fender etc.
  3. I find it amusing when people talk about body woods and the affect on the sound. The body wood has the smallest affect on one's sound, the neck, or the thickness of the neck has a greater affect than the body wood. Even the electrics have a greater affect than the body wood to the sound you get from your bass when amplified.
  4. If the bass is natural wood, than the replies here are totally valid. If however it's covered in thick poly then none of it matters as the poly will have a greater affect than the wood underneath.
  5. Can anyone with a Harley Benton pb50 let me know the heel width please? 😀
  6. Abbreviated, not quoted. Seems you have confused the two, or maybe just confused?? 🤣
  7. Can you do an abbreviated version, can't be bothered to read an essay on nyxl strings. 😆
  8. I'd take the Vintage V4 over the new Squier CV's anyday. I'd also say the V4 are better than the older Mexican Fenders (90s and 00s) in both sound and build quality. However, there are always very good ones as well as very bad ones in any range, even US Fenders!
  9. This. A custom made set will cost less than La Bella's. I have a set of Newtone strings on my short scale, sound and feel superb. 😃
  10. Excellent choices. Next thing is the strings - the most important element to your sound. 😀
  11. That'll work fine, though there will be a slight gap because Fender necks are 63mm wide at the heel, whereas pretty much all Squier's are 64mm.
  12. I have a lightweight Hiscox STD Liteflite ABS hardcase spare which can handle deep body, angled neck etc. DM me if interested?
  13. Vintage VJ74 Reissued bass, these can be picked up secondhand for £150 or less. Probably the best bang for buck. Pickups and hardware arguably much better than the new Squier CV's. Just read the reviews on the Vintage Reissued range. 👍
  14. Alnico pickups from my 2004 MIJ Fender P bass. Long wires. No longer needed, so up for grabs. £35 posted.
  15. When you say "people" do you mean the general population, or gear snobs, which everyone knows aren't people, but a few misguided fools? 😉
  16. Do you mean low mids or high mids? The mid range is a wide spectrum. If you already use D'Addario Pro steels, you should have lots of high mids, and if you want more low mids just turn the tone knob down a bit. Also boost whichever you prefer on your amp!
  17. My short scale p bass definitely sounds like a p bass. Got no Idea where you're coming from that a short scale won't sound like a p bass? Also, to get that classic p bass sound you need a passive alnico split precision pickup. If it's alnico you're pretty much there. 😃 The neck pickup on a jazz is nothing like a classic p bass sound, it lacks the full roundness, low end, and punch you only get from a classic p bass sound.
