  1. I've not heard if custom shop SD's - what are these? The antiquities range I read many negative reviews, and the AP range are active, so apples and oranges.
  2. Spb1, Spb2, Spb3 and Steve Harris. Not every model, but enough to have a consensus that I don't rate them.
  3. I don't rate SD pickups at all. 😒
  4. Used to listen to that album loads. It does sound like a jazz bass, with a tiny bit of overdrive, recorded from a 15" cab.
  5. If it isn't broken, don't change it. If you don't know the sound you want, there's little benefit in changing the pickups etc. You'll often end up chasing your tail. I've changed pickups in the past only to go back to the original, and know many who have done the same. The aesthetic is up to you, if you like cream pickup covers with a black pickguard, go for it.
  6. If you can find one to try - and you can get past the looks a Burns Bison is crazy good. The Tri sonic pickups are amazing. I had one, and it nails the classic P sound, classic jazz sound, Ric sound and upright. All the best tones from one bass. I only sold mine because I couldn't get on with the weight, but playability and sound it is awesome! 😎
  7. @krispn is that a custom pickguard?
  8. I had a B200R, great sounding amp. Had plenty of volume also. I'm sure you'll like yours. 😁
  9. What's your budget for your bass, as the Rob Allen is mighty expensive? To get the sound you want you need flatwound strings, La Bella or Thomastik (or even tapewounds), then roll off the tone. The deeper body - deeper sound isn't necessarily the case. I have a solid bodied precision bass with flatwounds and it sounds very much like an upright bass with the tone rolled all the way down, and my amp settings with a low end bias.
  10. With your backline you'll never have the need to DI in pubs or even small venues. You have plenty of power, you'll just need to tweak the amp a little to fit the room. Easy. 👍
  11. 30" will have more low end due to the strings having less tension. 34" should have better articulation due to better mids. Woods used have very little affect on tone, strings have the biggest impact on your sound, followed by pickups, then playing technique. Hollow bodied basses will also give a deeper sound than solid bodied due to greater resonance. So a 30" hollow bodied bass will have a heavy low-end, especially if it have heavy guage strings as well. The type of strings (including guage) will have the greatest affect on one's tone!
  12. The "good run" was 2014 onwards. Anyhoo, a gorgeous looking bass. 😎
  13. You require a Fender Rumble V3 15 which is geared towards the low end. For a tiny amp it produces plenty of deep bass.
  14. The octave doesn't ring. So can't be a pitch thing. Not sure it's a vibration issue, as most notes play fine. I don't have another amp or cab to hand, so can't test it out. I'm not technical enough to test or look into dry joints, but I am leaning towards a loose dry joint being the issue, but I've no idea where.
  15. I've got a little old fender frontman ss practice amp, which when not playing is fine, no noise, and I can play without issue, but when I play certain notes the amp makes a static noise. At first I thought it might only happy if I play low notes on the E string, which may indicate an issue with the speaker. But I can play some low notes on the E fine, and when i play some notes on other strings they also cause this static noise, so I've ruled out the speaker as the problem. It seems very random, and can't figure out what the problem is?
  16. @foxyFuze which certain set of strings were you struggling to find?
  17. Fender Musicmaster. Fender Bullet. Vox Teardrop. Hofner 185. Ibanez tmb30. Gretsch G5442.
  18. This. The foundation for short scales. Also the Squier Bronco. There are a few Danelectros as well. Gibson/Epiphone EB0.
  19. You're looking at it up-side-down??
