This music requires a Precision bass. The Squire CV is an excellent choice - there are pro musicians who gig a CV, so that tells you how good they are. Pair the bass with a Fender Rumble V3 25 and you are sorted. :)

Precision bitsa bass in sunburst. Solid wood body (unknown origin), 80s Encore rosewood and amber tinted maple neck. The bass has some aged look with pitting, marks and rust on some of the chrome hardware. The previous owner has removed some of the wood under the pickguard, making easy access to the truss rod in the heel of the neck. Original 80s Encore pickups, solderless loom. Chrome bridge cover. £50 for the bass plus £25 for postage (Mainland UK only).

Fan of FoW here also. Sad. 😥 -
It seems to me the pain you are having is due to the other person, if they had packed it properly and labelled it better (no other labels etc) then the parcel probably would have been delivered without issue, like yours was! I reckon the title of this thread should be "Trader woes", don't shoot the messenger as they say.

Sounds like you need to adjust the truss rod. Bronco neck's are brilliant. Did you change strings recently? Different strings have different tensions, as such if the new strings have less tension than the previous there will be fret buzz, the solution is to either raise the height of the bridge saddles or adjust the truss rod.

Any inexpensive aggressive sounding P pickups around?

I take it the pickguard is a Chinese after market one, for some reason they make the pickup ear holes too small. -

A 0.1 cap removes a lot of high end and focuses on the low end - not something you want for an aggressive tone! The standard cap is 0.047 which is fine, if not ideal for the aggressive tone you want. 👍 -

I've tried that, doesn't work was well as twisting wires and insulating with tape. -

You can change pickups without doing any soldering. If the old pickups are still soldered to the pots you can simply cut the wires connecting the pickups to the pots, then expose the copper wire, do the same to the new pickup wires and twist the two together, matching the black to black and white to white wires. This will link the pickups to the pots, you will need to wrap electrical tape around both wires to insulate them. Easy to do and no soldering. 👍 -
Got this little Encore short scale from a fellow BCer, decided to mod it a bit, now it's a 50s hybrid P shortie. Wilkinson tuners, Kent Armstrong Hot Vintage pups, CTS pots and PIO cap, Dunlop straplocks, 51 control plate, box string tree. Came with Fender nickel strings, after a full set up it now plays and sounds really cool. Best bit is it only weighs around 4.9 lbs - crazy lightweight, and it's a proper thumper - goes from JJ Burnel with tone fully open to deep and fat with tone rolled off (James Jamerson territory).

Looks lovely, what pickups is in that beauty? -
Is the body plywood? I've owned an Antoria, Cort and Columbus jazzes, all 70s, all weighed a small planet.

The Entwistles are the complete opposite to vintage voiced. If you want decent and cheap vintage sounding pups look at Tonerider (as you've mentioned), or Wilkinson Alnico pups. 😁 -
Putting passive pickups into a bass with an active preamp??
hooky_lowdown replied to EdLib-3's topic in Repairs and Technical
Passive pickups with an active eq are low output, as the eq generates extra output. The DiMarzio pups maybe too hot and as a result, in combination with the eq will make the pups sound distorted, same as if you raise pickups close to the strings the sound gets distorted. -
Fender P 1973 pick up repair recommendation
hooky_lowdown replied to BMBR's topic in Repairs and Technical
Sounds like it might be a loose connecting wire, check the solder joints from each wire to each pickup, see if anything isn't connected properly. -
Not as a PJ set afaik. But put together the CS 62 P pickup with the CS 60s Jazz bridge pickup and you have an awesome combo. 😀
-
The Nords are very good, but if you want the best P pickup, it's the Fender custom shop 62 imho, which cost less than the Nords. 😀

Not riled, just trying to ascertain if I had said anything wrong, as I've seen posts by you in other threads, so knew you sold these. 😁 As for "high end" I've seen a few sold on fleabay in the past six months or so for under £100. So the "bit of an odd comment in itself" I do take umbrage to!

I'm not sure why you quoted me, is there anything I said which is wrong or inaccurate?
