  1. Fleabay doesn't work like that. I've read many stories of people collecting stuff, then saying through fleabay they've not received the item. Sadly there's dodgy buyers as well as sellers out there. 🙈
  2. You may want to post this in the correct section: Repairs & Technical. 👍
  3. All basses are different, you can't really A/B two different manufacturers. The best thing is to try as many basses as you can, you'll know the right one which feels and sounds best to you. Don't rely on spec etc, go try them out! 😀
  4. What's your definition of "tinny" as I associate it as sounding thin and metallic? Not two words I'd ever link to flatwounds.
  5. I'm guessing the tinny sound was the original strings, probably steel roundwounds. The flats would have fixed that straight off the bat. The neodymium pickups are a nice addition nonetheless. 👍
  6. It's not a new release colouring, it's been out a while! If you spend a few quid more for the pb50 it's even better in all aspects. 👍
  7. Have you got a good soldering iron? If not you'll spend close to what a Kiogon loom costs just for that. There are many tutorials on YouTube on how to wire looms, most will say where wire etc were from.
  8. Vintage V4 Reissued precision bass neck. Wilkinson machine heads in excellent condition, rosewood and amber tinted maple. The neck is gloss. Virtually no fretwear. £50 plus £12.50 postage (to UK Mainland only).
  9. Vintage V4 Reissued precision bass body in sunburst. Small sticker mark to pickguard, but overall in excellent condition. Wilkinson bridge with brass saddles. Pots etc included, just needs new pickups. £50 plus £12.50 postage (to UK Mainland only).
  10. If we don't get everything on our rider, we're gone. 😉
  11. Choice of strings, pickups and the "player" has the biggest influence on sound. I wouldn't worry too much about sound, I've seen guitars and basses made from drift wood, so guess that says something. If you're looking at being mass market then sustainability should be considered. If you're doing bespoke builds then it'll depend on the client, and sustainability really won't be an issue as you're demand will be so low it'll be inconsequential.
  12. Creative Director / designer, though I'm semi-retired now.
  13. Same. I see things all the time advertised wrongly, it used to annoy me also, but it's not my duty to right others wrongs.
  14. Yup, this guy sounds dodgy, you don't adjust the truss rod for one string with fret buzz, you adjust the saddle height. 🙈
  15. Pop down to your local music shop, sure they're have one to try! 😃
  16. I think you missed my point. You may categorise lightweight as being 7.5lbs or less (as may I), but someone else may categorise lightweight as anything under 10lbs. Which is a significant difference for us glass backed old geezers. 😀
  17. I think it's more about the actual weight of a bass then it is by someone's perceived definition of what "lightweight" is.
  18. Epi's always seem to be heavier than Gibson's. I see lots of posts about weight, which I find funny, as people say such bass is lightweight etc. If you're 6"5 and built like a brick s**t house, their lightweight is not the same as a 5 foot skinny guy. Just saying! 😉
  19. Violin basses are well known for not being able to get perfect intonation, mainly due to the floating bridge.
  20. The Asian owned Kay brand relaunched in late 1969. The original Kay brand was American.
  21. To clarify 1969 was the model number, not the year!
  22. Saw this bass on fleabay a while back. I'll tell you a neat trick, as the pickup is microphonic, plug it into an amp and speak into the pickup, it's basically a microphone. Also run it through an overdrive or fuzz, sounds awesome! It's an early 70s bass, you can tell by the headstock, if it's wooden it's early to mid 70s, if it's painted black it's late 70s to early 80s. They were mass produced and sold at the mighty Woolworths, back in the day.
  23. I've owned a few late 80s / early 90s Encore P basses, as others have said they are solid built, pickups and bridge are pretty decent, tuner's were the weak point, but easily replaced. All mine topped the scales over 10lbs. Very good value for money IMHO.
