  1. Set of Wilkinson alnico jazz pickups from a Vintage Icon v74 Fretless bass. Nice warm, deep, growly bass tone. £25 plus £3 postage.
  2. I agree, however I've seen numerous vids on YouTube of people slapping on flats - it's so wrong to my ears. Olympias are totally different from your EB's, they have more of a dull thump in comparison to the EB's, and more muddy sounding.
  3. Glad you like your Encore E83. I have two, one red and one black, one strung with flatwounds and the other nickel roundwounds. Both play and sound awesome, even with stock pickups. The E83's have solid sen ash bodies. There are rumours that the early Encores (1989-90) were made from parts (neck and bodies) rejected by quality control at Fender, so are essentially Fender parts! The factory where the Encores were made also made Squier II and Sunn Mustang guitars and basses - both brands owned by Fender.
  4. Ooooh, a bass from the future. You're not Micheal j fox are you? 😉
  5. Encore E83 p copy, the rumour about these being made from rejected genuine fender parts seems a reasonable assumption. Excellent build quality, solid, punchy pickups, great sustain. Mine wears flatwounds, and with the tone rolled off a little nails the Motown sound.
  6. I love little bronco's, the tuners maybe ok new, but they won't last. I replaced them with elephant ear ones from a Squier P bass (same enclosed backs), near enough a direct fit. I was then able to fit a used set of fender flatwounds, these strings sound great on this bass, the shorter neck allows a little less tension, and the lack of low end from the stock pickup suddenly is deep and fat.
  7. How did the neck not fit? Aftermarket bodies made in china rarely fit the fender spec, however there are exceptions - I found Harley Benton P bass bodies are to fender spec.
  8. The walnut is a beauty. Bet it sounds like a beast? 😎😎😎😎😎

  10. +1 Wilkinson make really good sounding pickups for little outlay. Yes, high end pickups sound better, but nowhere near the price difference. Wilkinson alnico pups are very decent.
  11. IMHO Roto flats are the worst, super high tension and characterless.
  12. You should have told the guy to go stand at the back where it sounds fine!
  13. Are you sure the bass player had flatwounds? As far a I remember Nigel Harrison didn't play with flats, so unusual a tribute band would use something different.
  14. The BLK probably refers to 'black' and has nothing to do with the neck. Looks like a label stuck on the neck because it has the F word in it. Plus it's in a strange place, labels are generally at the heel of the neck. The pickguard is aftermarket, so my guess it's a bitsa of cheap parts. If the bass is heavy then it may be decent, if it's not very heavy than you may have overpaid, you could get a Squier jazz for less.
  15. Epiphone to me. What did they say was wrong?
  16. I had one of these, regretted selling mine, great neck, great pickups. GLWTS
  17. Play however you feel comfortable, I used to play with fingers but exclusively play with my thumb or pick now. The thumb gives a fatter sound over fingers all day long.
  18. I've had a couple sets of D'Addario flats and half wounds with a dead string, which are twice the price of Status. Never stopped me buying them, you get the occasional duff string. That's life. I've had the same with Roto's and EB's as well.
  19. Out of interest, as Blazers are quality basses, what is the weight of yours?
  20. Doesn't the Blazer have a solid ash body? I wouldn't say any ash bodied bass is light as a feather.
  21. Same with me. Not a fan of glossy necks, but no problem with the SX, think the slim nut helps.
