You forgot to mention the glossy neck, some people don't like them. Having owned the same bass, my thoughts are very similar to yours, except I have large hands and prefer at fat P bass neck, however I had no issues with the smaller neck in the SX, although I can switch between J and P necks without issue. My current bass is set up with Wilkinson alnico pickups and half wounds, the two work together really well.

I didn't mention anything about pots or caps in my original post. So still have no idea where you are coming from. 🤔

Try a different set of strings, this will determine if it's the strings, the nut, or the pickup. I've had brand new sets of strings, flatwounds included where the E string just sounded dead or dull compared to the other strings.

The choice of pots and cap does have an affect on the sound. If you don't know this, try different parts out - I have, so I know these do have an impact on your sound, if only small. What claim have I made which is misleading? Ki0gon makes well made looms from quality parts and are easy to install (which is why I made this suggestion), and my pickup choice is my opinion having tried many P bass pickups over the years.

I will be the first, others will no doubt follow in saying the best P bass pickup being a Fender custom shop 62. It will give you the perfect P bass tone. Team it with a @KiOgon loom and you'll have a great passive bass. 😎

A big muff is not the same as an overdrive pedal, a big muff will thicken the sound, and with flats is too much low end so you lose articulation and starts to get muddy. You want to get the crunch of an overdrive - this works well with flats.

I've seen Squier branded straps, they do exist. 😁

Half rounds and groundwounds make noise when you run your fingers over them. Roundwounds of any kind = finger noise Flatwounds = no finger noise These are your options!

@Bassassin as you replied to my post to pete.young about possible Kay basses (acquired brand name established in 1969) being made by Teisco (closed in 1967), are you saying there are Kay basses made by Teisco brand. I simply said 'no', are you saying there were?

Kay's were generally made in Taiwan, and in the 70s/80s. I find it sad that people widely advertise Kay's as being made in Japan or dating from the 60s. Just not true. 😥

I've sent many basses via ParcelForce, not had a problem. But make sure you package the bass very well, bubble wrap, strong cardboard box etc. Hermes are ok, I've had a few things lost or damaged, or take weeks to arrive with them.

Low tension Labella's? But if you change tension, you'll change the sound, and although the Toneriders are the right pickup for a solid vintage tone, a lower tension won't sound the same as the studio jazz you played.

Do a search on BC there are several threads about lightweight basses. Im recovering from a back injury, so I've been looking into lightweight basses, I currently have an Ibanez gsr180, upgraded the tuners, electrics and pickups and now it plays, feels and sounds great, and is lightweight - probably a smidge over 7lbs. Yamaha rbx's are also lightweight and very easy to mod. Any hollow bodied bass will be lightweight.
