  1. Your bridge is black with black screws. Your control plate is chrome with chrome screws. Your pickguard is black with chrome screws. If it was my bass I would have black pickguard with black screws. 😁
  2. A small detail, but maybe the pickguard screws should be black, the chrome ones seem to stand out too much for me. 😁
  3. I know HB's use fender dimensions, but not sure if a fender pickguard will be a direct fit. What specifically looks "rubbish"? If the edges are a little rough, you just need to use some fine wet/dry sandpaper. πŸ‘
  4. Yes, but you should learn how to set up your bass yourself, it's actually not that difficult, there's many tutorials on YouTube, which is how I learnt. The benefit of being able to do it yourself is that you save lots of money, you get your bass set up how you like it (having a pro set up won't necessarily mean you will like how it plays or feels once done). Also, if you change strings, and especially different tension's you'll have to set it up again anyway.
  5. According to this guy, it was an early 70s model... He liked heavy basses, so probably ash body, stock US spec. http://marcoonthebass.blogspot.com/2012/12/the-story-behind-paul-simonon-his.html?m=1
  6. I don't recall 'made in Japan' being printed on the bottom of the neck like that in the early 80s. Maybe it's a reissue neck?
  7. Vintage VJ74 Reissue's can be found used around the same price.
  8. I'm a P guy, and over the years have had gas for the epi eb3, owned a few and ended up selling them on shortly after because the cons heavily outweigh the pros. Best solution I found was to put a solderless loom in my P bass (so I can easily change pickups), install some SD QPers and roll off the tone a little. Could also change the capacitor to a 0.1 and you'll get the eb3 tone no problem. High output, tonnes of lows and low mids, will rumble no matter what amp you use! 😎
  9. Yes, the strings will sound fuller. Though you can get a fuller sound simply by changing the capacitor to something between 0.05 and 0.1. πŸ‘
  10. Great idea. May want to put this in the "Recording" section!?!
  11. You probably won't feel the difference, I switch between 40s and 45s all the time. 😁
  12. Fender or Squier JV? The SD's will have a much higher output and low mids.
  13. I can't believe people said the steels have a warmer tone than nickels.
  14. I'm afraid not, having owned both the Glarry is worse. πŸ˜₯
  15. Harley Benton over G4M and anything else in the price range hands down. Having done BIY kits, never again. Far cheaper and easier to buy already built.
  16. YouTube is really good for finding new music, if you search for something it will list 'recommendations' based on the same or similar genre. Ignore all the promoted rubbish, but further down I always find gems and end up downloading lots of new music!
  17. The 'tubby' sound may have been because original 50's p basses had a 0.1 cap which removes most of the high end, so you lose definition.
  18. "no refunds, no returns" - sounds totally trustworthy to me! πŸ€”
  19. That's a crazy price for a cheapo Taiwanese bass. The pickups on these cheap Kay's are microphonic, nasty thing's.
  20. Looks like a Kay EB-100 tulip bass.
  21. Both Boston's are great imho. πŸ˜ƒ
  22. The stock Roswell pickup is very decent, I've read several reviews of peeps upgrading the pickup only to go back to stock. The BN pup may be deemed as an upgrade, but the difference will be minimal imho. The bigger difference will be in putting better electrics and capacitor in. I suggest you set up the HB when it arrives to your taste, give it a month or two and then buy the BN pup if the stock isn't doing it for you! 😎
  23. I've had a couple sets, they are medium-high tension. I found the silks are really long especially at the ball end, so they over hang the saddles which dulls the sound and sustain somewhat. Sound wise they are ok, fender flats, chrome's, EB Colbalt's, Labella's, TI's which are all more expensive do sound far superior and feel much, much smoother.
  24. Blimey, someone has no sense of humor. Anyway Tonerider TRP1 and nickel strings will get you the bass tone.
