ABM's are great amps. Did you try any new Fenders at PMT? The Fender Rumble v3 range head + cab or combo's are excellent and well within you budget. 👍

The Squier version is the classic vibe range, which is the top of the Squier range so are excellent. The Thomann basses are amazing value, very well made, sound really good, the electrics let it down, but easily changed. Do a search for reviews on Google, they are rightly well liked, especially for the price. The best bass you can buy under £100 IMHO. The Squiers have more of a standard neck, whereas the Thomann one's have a traditional thicker neck. I'd say buy the Thomann, see if you like it, if you do you can generally sell them for close to what they cost new, and upgrade to the Squier or Fender!

I think his is a 53 or 54, either way, always sounds great.

51 pickups are great IMHO. As you say they are very warm and thumpy, they also have fast attack and decay - which gives you the classic/vintage electric bass sound, i.e not a lot of sustain. The difference between the single coil and the split coil is the fast attack and decay, the SC is less defined and can be noisy, but there are 51 pickups on the market now which are wound hum cancelling, so there is no noise - same as a split coil, retaining all the great characteristics of the SC. 51 p bass with nickel wound, half round of flatwound strings = best bass sound. 😀

A hand truck will work with a 1x12.

A quirk with these basses is that if you spray a little bit of WD40 onto the logo on the headstock, leave it for a few minutes to seap in, and wipe (medium pressure) with some kitchen roll or a cloth the logo will actually wipe off completely, leaving an 'unbranded' headstock and no marks at all.

Fender rumble 500 v3. Punchy as hell and lightweight. 👍

It's not about guage, it's about tension. If you detune look from a higher tension string!

If you already like the ashdown tone, then look for a small ashdown. You'll want something with at least a 10 inch speaker, but rumble v3's are excellent from the smallest to the biggest.

I have an 11lb ash body p bass with flats which sounds lightweight, lack of lows/low mids compared to my 7lb basswood body with half rounds, which has tonnes of low-end and growl. My experience is that some basses and strings go together, and some just don't work, weight doesn't seem to be a factor, imho.

The stock CV p bass pups were Toneriders, not sure if the same were used in the jazzes, but more than likely.

There are good eBayers and bad ones. Some peeps list things not reading the instructions, just press submit and don't check/look until after the auction ends to see if they've been paid. eBay is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get! 😉

There's a reason all Squier mij basses go for silly money, even the trashed one's. Don't discount early Korean squire's either, the very early one's (88-89) were made from the same parts as the Japanese ones, only assembled in Korea, as they shipped parts across to Korea to start the factory there.

You're comparing a passive with an active. Both are quality basses in their own right, guess it's about preference. I like passive basses, so I'd choose the Squier over the Sire. 😉

Nice, a squier vintage modified with fender flatwounds = perfect p bass imho. £100 is a steal. 😃
