Sounds like you didn't like the pups, why didn't you just change them to suit your taste? 😀

These are the "precision special", the precursor to the VM series. You must have had a bad one as there are lots of glowing reviews both here and on the US site. I was impressed with the VM I had. Having owned several "precision special's" also I can say the pickups on all the ones I played sounded lightweight, but not on the VM.

Can you tell them to stop sending me marketing emails. I buy one of their basses to try, and now I receive bi-monthly spam emails. ☹️

The very first post of our dialogue I said a 410 is louder than a 115. I'm not sure why you are lost.
-
Yes, but is that 2.5 Trace decibels? 😉
-
You may not care about the date of production getting it new, but you will for resale! 😉
-
You seem focused on the surface area, I'm not interested in any of the mechanics or any other (of the many) variables which contribute to cab efficiency. My point is a 410 is louder than a 115 with all things equal.
-
Totally disagree, there are many sub £100 basses that can be had which are very decent. My current main bass is a Yamaha rbx270 with upgraded pickups and electrics. However the stock pickups and electrics would be perfectly suitable and usable for a beginner, and stock it only cost me £70, though they generally can be picked up on fleabay for under £100. My point here being Yamaha's, Peavey's, Ibanez, Cort, Squier, HB's, SX and J&D's can all be picked up sub £100 used and are all very decent (I've owned them all at one time). I do agree with you £150-250 for a new decent bass.

Blimey, it's like getting blood from a stone. So a 410 is louder than a 115. The more surface area the more air being pushed. I believe that's physics.
-
Are you talking sub £100 for a new or used bass? As mentioned a HB pb50 is sub £100 new and perfectly gigable. What would be helpful is a list of good beginner basses at different price points, and the price range they sell for both new and used. This would be a resource beneficial to beginners.

I wasn't asking you to compare from a theoretical perspective, I was simply asking if you have real world experience using 410's and 115's side-by-side, which one was louder to you?
-
Having owned a Glarry, because I had to see what you get for such little money, I wouldn't bother. The one I had was very poor (in every way). 😪
-
I think the "from UK warehouse", and "2-4 day delivery time" may be a big hint. 😉
-
Have you tried/tested the same amp head and bass through a 410 and a 115, if so which was louder for you?
-
The area was the only difference.

Only 250 notes... don't everyone jump at once. 😉 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GYPSY-ROSE-PRECISION-BASS-GUITAR-PINK-VERY-RARE/273979986291?hash=item3fca7ad173:g:~~0AAOSw88NdYuwj

Everytime I've used a 410 or 810 over a 115 or two 115's, using the same amp head, and same brand of cabs, same bass, the 410s have always been much louder. I understand what you are saying, in theory a watt is a watt (as discussed in this thread) and different frequency responses, but in reality, for me at least, more surface area equals louder. Room size withstanding.

Most basses have serial numbers on the headstock, where you can find out year of manufacture (if you know what to look for). First thing I look at is a serial number, as for some brands, some years are better than others, and for me anyway will denote its value.
-
If it's on wiki.... must be true. Think you may have missed my point. Different speakers do have different efficiencies, and a 115 with a very efficient speaker can be louder than a 410 with average speakers. If using the same brand/model of speakers, and using the exact same amp head and all things being equal, a 410 will be louder than a 115.
-
Bike shops sell 'new old stock' at discounted prices all the time. May be music shops should follow.
-
Something which may have been overlooked is that the more speaker surface area, the louder also. A 410 vs 115 using the same amp and ohms, the 410 will be far louder. I saw a band called Death From Above 1979 many years ago, by far the loudest gig I've ever been to (no PA support), Jesse was running an Acoustic and Peavey heads through two 810's with PA speakers. Bloody LOUD!
-
That would be 'new old stock', new stock is same year, so 2019.

Brighter Flatwound string recommendations?
hooky_lowdown replied to TorturedSaints's topic in Accessories and Misc
Flats will last 10+ years, how many sets and how much would roundwounds cost over that period. Flats are very cost effective. Upside, they're cheaper over time. 😉 -
Maya Precision - curious about the pickup
hooky_lowdown replied to Happy Jack's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I'm sure @Bassassin could list the decent brands of MIJ's, there are lots of low end stuff and crazy prices. I had a Maya jazz, was made ok, pickups were very weak, everything except the neck and body needed changing, and it weighed as much as a small planet. -

You've been using the strings regularly for over six months and the coating hasn't worn off?
