Old solid state watts are not the same as newer one's. I recall the very old Acoustic (brand) SS amps were rated comparable to tube watts. So a 100w Acoustic amp head was as powerful as a 100w tube head = bl**dy loud! A 100w head these days = fart.

I really like Warwick amps, and I'm sure your P bass with sound great through that, as Warwick's have a nice warm tone which'll complement the Squier's single coil pickup.

As @kodiakblair says that is a Milestone 4. It has the later headstock logo, earlier versions had the 'modern' Peavey logo (i.e less pointy than the original). The Milestone 4's with the 'modern' logo would date from late 90's to 2001-02. The OP's with the later logo would be post 2002. These were mass produced, especially in black and they are almost always found on ebay for very little money, despite all Peavey's having such nice necks.

Does anyone know someone who can make a custom P bass pickguard. I'm wanting to put a standard single coil (50s style) pickup into a Fender/Squier P bass, so I require a standard MIM/US P shape pickguard with a single coil hole. Unfortunately I don't have the tools, else I would make one myself. Same as this...

Mmmmmm, seems Status have stopped making the long scale flats. Fender flats, for a few quid more are even better imho.

PBNX's are modern sounding. If you want a 'vintage' voiced cheap pickup you want a Wilkinson alnico, which sounds close to a 62, but obviously not as good, but still very decent, and punches way beyond its price tag, much like the PBNX's do.

I also caught the documentry last night, can't believe it's been 50 years. Amazing how they got the event off the ground in such little time, which subsequently became the most famous festival ever.

Your harness should be perfectly good, just drop in the 62's and enjoy the best P bass tone. 😀

If you want a traditional 50s sound then a set of flatwound strings is what you need. Flats will last you many years (10 years plus) without needing to change them and the best bit is that they get better with age! You can pick up a decent set of Status Hotwire flatwounds for less than £18. 😎

Depends what bass you have. If it has a decent harness to begin with there is no point. If you want a vintage tone, look for 250k pots, if you want a modern tone go for 500k pots.

For me it's simple. The 62's produce the P sound I'm familiar with from umpteen recordings. They just sound right (in every sense... tone, bite, output, warmth). I play rock, indie, blues, motown and the 62's nail that. But if you play funk and modern, than 62's are not right for that sound. In fact, a jazz bass would be more suitable, with "modern" voiced pickups. As the OP was comparing two "vintage" voiced pickups, as said by many of us, the 62 rules, imho.

I'm the same. I use tabs as a template (not to followed religiously), and also prefer to play up near the nut, so I look at what note needs to be played and work out where best to play it at the top of the neck.

Swing 66's have silks at both ends. Maybe Rotosound rb45's.

I mostly play with a pick, more articulation and cuts through the mix better imho.
