Split coil P sounding like a single coil?
hooky_lowdown replied to hooky_lowdown's topic in Accessories and Misc
Not really. Looking for a direct split coil replacement, otherwise I would have to hack the routing, pickguard or body to the bass I love. Just can't do it. -
I had one of these, had to see what a super cheap bass is like. Mine was super bright yellow, arrived with two large splits in the paint, bridge was half way up the body (slight exaggeration, but was a lot higher than normal) and the nut was not straight. Pickups were very weak and it had crazy neck dive. Machine heads were so stiff, I was afraid to turn them in case they sheared off. Worse of all was I kept getting marketing emails from Glarry, even after I unsubscribed, they still came. It looks like yours is a lot better than the one I had. I think the burlywood one's are much better than the others. Glad you like yours.

What strings are you using? A more suitable string may be a simple (and much cheaper) solution.

Split coil P sounding like a single coil?
hooky_lowdown replied to hooky_lowdown's topic in Accessories and Misc
Doesn't the S1 switch lower the output fairly significantly? Something I'm trying to avoid. -
I have a P bass which I love, it's got a split P pickup, but the sound isn't there for me, I really like the classic 51 style P bass tone, and can't seem to get the right sound, so thinking I need to change the pickup. Is there a split P pickup which sounds like a single coil, i.e. warm, fat with fast attack and fast decay?

Yeah, but what colour?

Is that all you got. Blah.

Oh dear 😴

The difference between myself and the OP is that I'm not advocating it. Well done you for missing the point! 😂

Have I been hacked? What do I do?
hooky_lowdown replied to Steve Browning's topic in General Discussion
It is entirely possible to download spyware, malware and any other forms of virus' just by clicking on an email. If you don't know this, you should do some research my friend. Obviously there are many levels of scammers/hackers, some are chancers, which I think the OP may have received. However, tech is so sophisticated, it's also possible to trigger or run clandestine software simply by moving your cursor over an email (you don't need to click on it to trigger). I used to work in the web design industry for more than 20 years, and I've worked with many extremely talented web developers to know just how amazingly sophisticated tech can be. As I've already said... NEVER open unsolicited emails. -

hooky_lowdown replied to Steve Browning's topic in General Discussion
NEVER open an email from people you don't know, or are expecting an email from. It is possible just by clicking to open an email that you have unknowingly downloaded 'spyware' onto your computer. You will know if any damage has been done if your computer stops working. If nothing changes, then it is a scam, and you are lucky. Chalk it up as a lesson, and don't open unsolicited emails!!!!!! Some dodgy people send out "phishing" emails, if people click to open them, they will get confirmation an email has been opened, and will sell your email address to other dodgy people, knowing you open unsolicited emails. So you may receive a lot of scam emails for the foreseeable future. It's good you back up to an external device. That's what I do. If your computer does ever get a virus or whatever, it's not a big deal, you simply need to replace the hard drive on your computer, then restore your backup from your external harddrive. -
There's a white 414 on fleabay... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-BB-414-Bass-Guitar/133102107047?hash=item1efd80f9a7:g:~98AAOSwY85dG7Y~

Gorgeous bass. Is the maple neck a single piece or separate neck and fretboard?

What is it???!? And belated happy birthday.

Pickup-wise, if you like a modern P bass tone go for the Entwistle's. If you like a more vintage tone go for Wilkinson. Both cost £15.
