Wondered when you`d pop up on this one, Tim. Back in the days when a bass actually sounded like a bass, I`m getting all nostalgic now.
.... If you need a strong shoulder to cry on, i am there for you

In my oppinion, the easiest way to get the best sounding jazzbass is using a yamaha ne-1, which is a really good parametric mid-eq. It is an older, maybe unrecognized pedal from yamaha, which is nathan easts eq as a pedal. i know, if you are up to GAS, this may sound boring to you, but you should give it a try, you will be surprised. the yamaha ne-1 is around 40 to 60 gbp on second hand market. it is, as mentioned an outbord pedal. Yamaha NE-1 not really represantative, but maybe you get a little idea of it from this vid on youtube. You can see the NE-1 pedal on his combo and a friend of him changes sound with it.It is a normal passive jazzbass.
All I can say reading this thread is... Welcome to my world!
Hell yeah I love 70`s Rock Music and i love the whole sound of those bands. (Also Mentioned Scheff on Suspicious mind at Aloha from Hawaii is some really amazing playing:)) The 70`s bass sounds organic, rich and full and natural. I think people will deliver more more "thirst" for those sounds as i recognized some kind of developement in sound preferences of my friends as well. I think we have all enough from this loudness war (you may youtube this, if not familiar) and like life always is, a development in up and downs, we are going back to natural and organic again. The first steps are done and we will walk on.. As for my personal sound, i take an old vintage P, flatwounds and a sunn tube amp. (which was not used for the following recording), but one thing i have to complain, those mentioned jeans hurt after 3 songs If you like those 70`s sound, you may have a listen and you maybe will like the sound as well. it is overdubbed on 1975 Purple`s Love Child. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4194859/lc%20vitjo.mp3 great thread!

Dear Admins, hope i am right in this section with my question. the "problem" As there are differences in each countries laws of copyrights, i often saw complications in showing or watching some youtube videos. Youtube videos are a lot fun to watch, as there are really amazing players here on basschat, but sometimes you may not be allowed to watch them. Also there is a problem for some of you watching videos i uploaded here in germany. the maybe "solution" some of you will already know the page of great marlowedk youplayalong.com there you can read: Terms of Use You Play Along! is the site for learning to play any song on any instrument by watching other musicians play their versions Everyone can Watch Videos on You Play Along!. People can find videos with educative, inspiring versions of their favorite songs on their favorite instruments. As more people practice, learn and capture special performances on video,You Play Along! is empowering them to get better playing skills and helping others to learn to play and enjoy - perhaps songs and artists new to them. You Play Along! not only a video sharing website but also has social network features, you can Make Friends, and send them videos and private messages. You Play Along! also has built in rating system and comment sytem so that people can disccuss on there interested videos, not only comment but also, people can rate Comments. Such material remains the copyright of the original holder and is used here for the purposes of education, comparison, and criticism only. No infringement of copyright is intended.- in fact these playalong videos actually make people buy the original recordings my question, because so there are no limitations, would it be possible, additional to link youtube videos, to embed also the youplayalong player The player has for instance a code like this: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youplayalong.com/player/embed_player.swf"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="false"></param><embed src="http://www.youplayalong.com/player/embed_player.swf" width="425" height="344" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" flashvars="file=http://www.youplayalong.com/files/videos/2123149025.flv&displayheight=344&logo=http://www.youplayalong.com/player/mini_logo.png&lightcolor=0xCC0000&title=You got the love - Rufus - bass play along&usefullscreen=false" allowfullscreen="false" width="425" height="344"/></object> Thanks in advance and again, i hope i posted this one in the rigth section

As there were further questions about how bad the blemish is, i want you all to know how this looks for real. In my eyes it isn`t that much or bad, nothing that would worry or would concern me..but i am used to really old vintage basses:) As every person has his own understanding of good and bad, it is very important for me that you see how it is and judge for your own. If this fits your "good" or not. That both partners are happy with the deal , for me, stands over all. So i tried to do a video, to show how "it is". Now it is up to you to decide. Hope that helps for your confidence, your decision and clears maybe some concerns.

I bought this bass as a backup for a short tour, but never used it. unfortunately there is a [s]small[/s] blemish at the bass side of the body(from previous owner), except for this, the bass is in an amazing condition. you can see that on the pictures. i never played the bass, as i am an old fender addict. You can see that the plastic is still on the electronic cover on the back. Price including shipping with insurance in europe is 350,- GBP If you have further questions or you want to see more pics or a specific detail, please do not hesitate to contact me. I will provide you with everything, i am able to. Please see also my feedback thread here on basschat.
That sounds really nice to me... and if they go for under £400 I might keep my eyes open.
i`ve seen them 3 or 4 times for that price in my oppinion, they are worth a try, depending on that impression of the video above
First obvious difference was much higher tension
That has nothing to do with flatwound. As on rounds, just a matter of set and brand. Thomastik Infeld for instance have no high tension.
hey peoples, just wondering what the main difference is between the flat wound strings to the normal strings i you could give me some info that will be most appreciated dan
As for me a flatwound string is normal, i am wondering what you mean with normal If you mean the difference between flatwound and roundwound..just take a guess what the difference may be!? soundwise, in my oppinion the rounds seem to have more bite, more highs, more piano. Flatwounds played alone without a band, may sound boring as a first impression to you, but if you start playing in the context with your band for example, you will learn to love them, as you have a better assertiveness and punch. Like sound always is, just a question of taste. Give your ears some examples on youtube and you will get a good impression about the main difference for this file i used flats on a p, if you wanna listen for an impression http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4194859/lc%20vitjo.mp3

Ah okay, how do you call it then, a "nit-picker"? As long as the compressor effects your original tone and this is the case even when it is not noticeable, i think the name effect is chosen well. Lets have a look for instance in audacity..under effects..ahh..a compressor, even wikipedia lists compressor as an effect.

Effects are just tools. If you need that screwdriver to tighten a screw, you will need a screwdriver. If you need a hammer instead , the screwdriver will not help that much. I only use bass-> cable-> amp after i have experimented much with compressors, maximizers, chorus, overdrive etc etc. for my personnel sound i just need my sunn amp, a precision and a good cable, As my sunn amp has a two channel tube compressor built in. in my eyes, a compressor ist the most useful effect, which you should start with. There is no right or wrong, just a left and right way. You choose, which way will lead you to your home.
