thank you all very much for sharing your experience with me. As they seem to have really low tension, (when the strings are played in the video the move very widely, especially e string) and as i had problems with that low tension with thomastik flats..i will consider other strings than those pressure wounds..thanks again

*Withdrawn* 1978 Fender Precision fretless Maple Neck
73Jazz replied to 73Jazz's topic in Basses For Sale
I am located in germany, if that matters for you for shipping, for me it will be no problem. I have also a positive feedback thread here If you have no bass to trade with, but fell in love with this beauty, contact me, we may handle something out. Thanks for reading -
I recently got this bass in a trade to balance the value. It is an awesome looking 1978 Fender Precision fretless with ash body and one piece fretless maple neck. As i love old Fenders but do not play much fretless bass, i want to trade this beautiful looking bass preferable for another Fender Precision oder Jazzbass. (or maybe some other classic bass like a stingray e.g.) Money to adjust value in both directions is possible. Just let me know what you have got. This bass is absolutely stunning and one of the most beautiful P fretless basses i have ever seen in my life. I think the pictures speak for themselves. Enjoy..

Thank you both for sharing your experience with me.
Just try to angle it so it picks up as little spill from the rest of the stage.
I will keep that in mind:) Thank you -
Looked at your link and my german speaking abilities tell me that this wouldn't be right for bass cabs at all. It's basically AKG's version of the Shure 55SH (The classic silver microphone used by Elvis). Designed for vocals and spoken word only really.
maybe i should start singing then:) as i recently bought an old Sennheiser MD421 Gold version for bass cab -
Someone offered me an old Echolette top 12 (from 1968), which is some kind of special edition of the AKG d12 made for Echolette. I don`t know that mic, so does anyone have experience with that mic? It seems to be more usual for bass drum i think.

Difference between Ampeg SVP Pro Preamp blackface vs hammerite
73Jazz replied to 73Jazz's topic in Amps and Cabs
I wonder when the hammerite one came into production
Open for correction, if i see it right The blackface came 1990. 1995 the hammerite with Di out right side of tuner out and 1999 the non adjustable DI out left of tuner out version. -
Difference between Ampeg SVP Pro Preamp blackface vs hammerite
73Jazz replied to 73Jazz's topic in Amps and Cabs
There is an interesting detail i didn`t recognized so far. There are 2 different versions of the SVP hammerite. One has the tuner out on the right sight of DI out facing back panel and one left. That one with with tuner out left is the newer one and as i looked at pictures the di out is without volume knob as well. I compared the older hammerite SVP with the blackface and maybe this is just some kind of face lift version. -

Difference between Ampeg SVP Pro Preamp blackface vs hammerite
73Jazz replied to 73Jazz's topic in Amps and Cabs
I spent the last 2 days comparing those 2 units, changed the tubes, listened, changed them again, compared on and on and on.. This is my conclusion: inside/schematics: according to ampeg pdf`s on their page, both units have the same layout. But if you open both the inside looks significant different. Unfortunately i am an electro-noob so it is only a plate with red blue orange drops on it, don`t know what these are ment to be, but the layout is different and they use different parts on the board. If there is a fellow BC here, who can read those layouts by photograph, i could upload big and clear pictures of the 2 layouts , so you can read them and maybe tell the difference professionally. Just let me know. Sound Honestly..i spend hours comparing both..i couldn`t hear any remarkable difference. maybe i do not hear good anymore or my ears where "closed" after hours of listening, which i definitely will not exclude. I also did recordings and compared both, i couldn`t tell the difference in a blind test. Hum as i posted before, there seem to be a construction problem with the SVP pro and grounding, so a lot of people have great hum problems with the unit. Some could eliminate those problems by changing the tubes, some don`t. I think it is also a question of perception, what for one means a lot of hum is some kind of quiet to another one. But here is a difference in both units! The blackface one is really quiet and the hammerite one has a noticeable, and for some annoying, hum. Maybe this is because fo the different inside layout of both units..i regrettably do not know, cause i am no technician. But with the same tubes on same position the blackface SVP is definitely more quiet than the hammerite one. I read about some kind of trick to reduce that hum using also a 12AU7 in position V5 instead of 12AX7, but this is some kind of trick to yourself and noone else. The 12AU7 has 70 percent of the volume/gain of the 12AX7, so of course if you change it, it is more quiet^^ but if you turn up the volume to the same level as with the 12ax7 you have the same hum.YMMV I also wrote a mail to AMPEG and asked if they may help me with this question..if i get a response (what i do not believe:) ) I will let you know -
great photography..nice
Where do I start looking?
in 1951 where it starts with a single coil you will not find the answer in one..some of your question is some kind of philosophy..you will find disciples of active basses with preamp, some of them love humbuckers some the splitcoil and there are also disciples who prefer the passive tone over the active one and there are also disciples who love both, if the colour of the bass is black^^ try to hear the difference..select some archetypes like Stingray, P or J and listen to it also important is where is the pcikup located on the bass..etc etc.. have fun..it is a long way to the top if you wanna rock^^
