It's not a Musicman and it will never be a Musicman. Why stick a Musicman logo on it?
Only taking the OP at face value...but this is correct. When someone re-finished a neck of a bass I have..I had to ask permission from the company/person who made it, if I could get a logo put back on..a formality and courtesy, maybe.. but you wouldn't want to mis-represent something, would you.
I've run jam nights where I genuinely had to have a stopwatch and set time limits on blues numbers.
yes..you almost need a band-leader to shut people down

I have to say that moving the large shoulder muscle is a lot of energy for a job that needs finesse and accuracy and constant movement.. so it strikes me as an inefficient way of doing things and potentially tiring. and storing up probs with a large muscle down the line..?? But each to their own
Hi all, Been asked to play bass in a blues cover band, any suggestions on what songs would go down well/popular choices? Don't really know many blues songs apart from the obvious Hendrix/Clapton stuff. Thanks in advance!
Haven't read through all this but to the OP.. Consider a blues song as literally a template that you can take anywhere and give the playes a chance to stretch out...but not to silly proportions.and only if they have anything to say musically...but then I'd apply this to most covers..but that is another 50 threads on here..!!

Muting mostly depends on how clean you are...IMO I play lightly and a 5st so I use pickup or B st as thumb rests and don't find a need to go across strings any further but this evolved. If I had a dampening problem I would have had to deal with it. Some like an anchor, some don't need it... I wouldn't get too hung up on what is percieved as best as this in itself can be a limiter to another style/technique. As long as you can play your lines the way you want to... then you are there or thereabouts..!!
JTUK, I don't think an order will be on the cards for close to a year. I just won't need them til the instrument is ready y'see. If you are cool to wait that long and there's any benefit to a group order then sure, but otherwise I wouldn't hold out for me.
No problems..I will deffo try them as I like their ethos that comes across. The e-mail I got implied that no minimum order was required..and the cost for a 5 set was less than £30...so I was very impressed they'd do that for a custom tapered set. I will give them that order now and will post back here with how I get on.
Does anyone have any recommendations of companies who are happy to do custom orders? They'd need to be a company that can make tapewound strings. Any feedback on companies to use or avoid are welcome! I ask because I'll likely need a custom set for the upcoming ACG build.
I did indeed ask Newtone and they they would do it for me... so I am taking their Diamond series and gauges. I haven't ordered yet as I thought I would want more than one set..to not be a hassle to them..but I'd put in part order with you if it helped.

I wouldn't worry about it..these things are very incestuous and some guys need the money more than others. It is likely politics as much as anything else..
As you state this really all is a matter of taste. The most important thing to me is songs. If you've got them and perform them well then you win. All the rest is either gravy or distraction depending on the performer and the performance. You seem obsessed with changing things about, but still haven't explained why they have to change things about. That's generally a muso thing. They're not playing for musos. Many people who go and see a band like U2 or Oasis or whoever (certainly at this sort of gig) want to sing along with a bunch of songs they know and hopefully love. If it's not your bag, fine. If you think they underplayed compared to their usual performances, fine. But to criticise them for not being something that they're not seems to me to be rather peculiar.
How many times do I have to say the same thing..????? they have nowhere else to go with this vehicle. IMO. Plenty of bands are in the situation.. but artistically they revive things or don't depending on what they have left in the tank. This applies to all levels of musicians though..or really should, IMO.. If U2 were as good as their status suggests, they might be able to do this.. but they don't seem able...or willing. My bet is on the former but If they still sell tickets, who cares..? I guess they wont. Going round in circles here and there are too many of these types of threads to keep up with..besides, the fest is over, this is all done, I'm out.
Can't remember what bass it as (I was on the firewater at the time), but was sufficiently aware to wonder why he had it taped over. Didn't notice any others?
No, he was the only one..altho the cabs were devoid of logos as well...maybe, inadvertingly as they had staging covering the cabs.

P-T-P Where do I start..??? IMO. They have no gears to go through which is down to the fundementals of the band. They have their classic list of songs to call on..and there are quite a few, but they do not seem to have to ability or imagination to change anything. Hence you get the same show which if it is a bit duff dynamically, through nerves, bad hair day or whatever ...all things that should be out of the loop at this lvel, IMV.. you'll have a less than sparkling performance which is what I said you got. For this reason, they can't up the game and they may have gotten away with this playing to a home crowd but with the support they should have, this shouldn't be a factor. The good thing is they were paired as a headline act with Coldplay..who have the same sort of band problems..the bad thing is Glastonbury needed a headline act and came up with a real show..who frankly blew them both away combined. But don't worry about it... it is only an opinion, not the demise of a marque..altho' they might ask that question themselves. I know I would at least be thinking we have done all we can with this ship.

ha ha... terrible, terrible and unwatchable..but that is music, isn't it

Yeah..not my cup of tea at all... but they had an energy and panache sadly lacking in too many.
Anyone notice Simons bassist remove his ring during Obvious Child? Why??
Because he was making a pig's ear of his bass part/solo piece

Plan B dying on their feet...???? Beyonce had better be on form ...

I'd let it go... the have probably got someone local and it is their money, their perogative, I guess. 150 miles for £200..?? I would have thought you'd tell them thanks, but no thanks ages ago. They sound like they did you a favour..!! But I don't know what the scene is like round your way and how hard gigs are to come by.
I guess that ashdown is not ABM
It looks like this http://www.ashdownmusic.com/bass/detail.asp?ID=103 I've hired it a few times in the past.....it isn't really offensive and is a decent carrry. The other 2 combos are ..err..not good, IMO..but they make a noise for some people...apparently

That's good to hear. I often think it a mistake to go chasing the volume of the gtrs... and a Bassman should be plenty loud enough..if it isn't..then the problem is in the gtr..so he should turn down or soak it. I guess it depends what the gtrs use..most of the guys we use round here have between 12 and 40 watts. They might run 2 mini cabs though..!!!!

Good call, Pete
