can't say from experience of this cab but depends how loud you band is If you have any doubts and don't have a monitor mix, then I'd not risk it.

I think we would put an originals set together as we have a back catalogue of stuff from previous incarnations but all based around the main writer. We aren't talking about serious festivals as we don't have that inclination and we wont play free either..so maybe this neds a bit more thought and process. As regards covers in pubs..is 18 months too short for getting to be a big draw..? It is only the fact that things seem slow when all the other indications are good, IMHO, If i look at the top draws around here, they have all been going for eons, as far as I can tell. And some seem poplular by default, almost... like they have worn people down with persistance. The main criteria seems to be if you can pull in enough to take £2-3000 over the bar you are doing very well. The really really top dates are in the region of £6000..!!!!!!! although I am not sure if the landlord was joking Overall, we are happy with our exposure this summer but just wonder how others percieve this issue..or not..????
I know a guy who's band formed in November last year, and he's playing Download festival this year! I think he's opening 2nd stage or something... Don't know how they managed it and they won't tell anybody! Peculiar...
We are about 18 months old as a covers band.. go down well everywhere, if I say so myself and can call on lots of landlords etc for recommendations..but only now after 18 months are we getting new enquiries from people having heard about us. I think it might be because we don't play a really standard cliched set that so many other bands do so we are an aquired taste or slow burn. You can pick up gigs anywhere but if you want to charge well, you have to be concerned about how many people you pull...now, more than ever, IMO.

We have an agent who has managed one gig in 4 months or so..and another has just come in at the same venue which happens to be a pub. We don't need an agent for pubs so you could say I am not that knocked out about that. We also have another but the liason is too new to judge. They also run as a covers band so presumably they sub out the gigs they don't/can't do. We all chip in with dates but a freind sent me their myspace page and they said they were better than average in their blurb. I have never heard of this band so I wondered how bands sell themselves to get gigs. What is their line..? I haven't been on the 'circuit' as a band player for so long and things change so this is almost a new start for me to chase gigs. We have enough gigs so I am not looking for tips as such.. we just want to get to a few more festivals but wondered how people market themselves.

Bands, first and foremost=contacts. IMO. If it doesn't work in one guise or another, then you have spread the wings just a little further. It is most important, IMV, to know who you can work with musically, and they, you. Once this is sorted, the rest can fall into place with whatever criteria you want to add for whatever reasons. But..my pet rule is NEVER to be in bands just because they are mates. If it works out like that, then bonus but it is never the strongest reason as when things come to an end badly, if applicable, you don't want to lose mates AND the band
.............. An Eden 610 would sound pretty good.
I would love a 610... have seen a few Goliaths snrs that would really work.. just can't get it into my car so am going down 210 route...and am thinking whether to add another 210 or 1x15. I could struggle to gigs in my car like that for those larger stages..otherwise am stucking with 12's for all else. I don't want to be humping 210/1x5 ect ect to all gigs though... just one or two and seperates are then expensive. But what the hell...
Cool people don't play Status basses and have never played Status basses, that's their problem. Even when Mark King was nearly cool in the '80s he didn't play Status basses, he switched to them afterwards! Until someone undeniably cool is strongly associated with a Status bass they'll always be expensive mid-life-crisis basses.
Yep, Warwick and Status aren't likely to get any ground back...their 'cool-ish' time was eons ago. Not saying they are bad basses particuarly but are the most cliched. What I like about Status is the graphite neck but the rest kills all that. IMO, Warwick never recovered from dumbing down the brand with cheap versions.

If you can't get a 4x10 up stairs, the 1x15 will not be much better THe 210XLT would be my choice.
If you do anything for any length of time you will bond on a certain level with the people around you. It get's nasty when they turn out not to be the people you thought they were. You've got to be a strange individual not to build friendships with your band mates. Or is it just me?
Sure, but you don't have to be really really close. You just have to get along at a decent level and if you think they'll let you down, you aren't going to love them anyway. For me, the right player is the right player, not my best mate. If the playing doesn't work and you have to part with your mate, what happens then..?? You can do it on any level that suits you..even just for the money, but be clear that you know and accept that when you go in. I'd approach this as a few gigs trial on MY part and if they work out ok, I'll stick around, and I would agree that you don't want to take the resentment you may have into this gig. Use them as they are using you and go from there. It is only a gig....you either want to play or you don't and all of them will have compromises somewhere .. This may be that they aren't great communicators or whatever.. you'll pick up on what is required soon enough after a few dates.
-
Do it and see how it goes. They may be desperate and they may let you down again but they will have served a purpose getting you playing again because until you do that, you can't be in a band anyway. Some people are too precious about bands...IMV, they only have to work on a certain level..like you enjoy the time doing it...being best mates or whatever doesn't come into it. Treat it as stepping stone and if you stick around, it must be ok. Turn up and take the money and enjoy it for what it is..

Best places in the UK to get bass bodies made
JTUK replied to sockdeluxe_mikey's topic in Bass Guitars
Depends what matters..decent wood to show off the grain, or spray over. If I wanted if done properly with great wood to show off... then I wouldn't skimp on cost. If I wanted a cheaper deal...presumably..but still better than commercially available from the likes of the all parts type company, I'd certainly give one or two of the smaller guys here a ring..and hope that they would do a better job but give me a break on the price as they have smaller OH costs.. -
we are going to do it but might have to take it down a tone...which will make it a bit harder..plus transposing brings its own problem. Depends how accurate you want it to be... it is a pretty simple line in itself...but I think some of the turnarounds are ugly on the track so I've cleaned them up, from my POV. The piano part is more crucial so just stay out of the way of him..
Thursday. Beer. Queens head @ Kingsnorth... easy!
Is Andy coming along..?
10 seconds?! I'm not sure I've ever let a note sustain for 10 whole seconds (on bass at least - keys, oh yes)
Yes..easily.... My two main basses can do that all over the neck, I am pretty sure. Not something you do all the time, of course. More to the point that whatever duration you are going for...the note stays strong and doesn't die on you., so the longer the better, IMO. It is a sure sign of a well put together bass, IMO.
-
I'd be checking out that returned bass and would want a really really good reason to write another cheque. As far as I would be concerned the deal is done...too much time has passed, you may not have the bass you returned and this person can no longer be trusted enough to do business with. I would communicate that sentiment to him and let it be.

Always up for a beer...thursday is better for me, tho. Best ask bob as well as it is his thread..!!
