Talked to the dealer who said by all means check out the back panel for wiring. It is all very clean and tidy with clip-on connects mostly. I plugged in the amp and turned the horn attentuator up on full...and I hardly get a sound from it but the signal does get through...and no sound at all out of the big 12". hmmm
Only my experience of one item, but don't get a Ritter Style 3. £90 and the seams have ripped alongside the stitching.
That is why I use the cheap ones. If I get a decent wear out of them, I am quids in..or I throw it away and get another one. If the zips stay ok..and there is no reason why they shouldn't then they should do the job. Just don't expect them to be anything than a convenient carry case. It will not support weight, and mine are laid on the back seat never in the boot. They have reasonable padding and handles/straps and they have a few pockets. They have an internal velcro strap which will stop the bass falling out should the zip unexpectedly go whilst in carry mode over the shoulder. They aren't wonderful but do a cheap easy job, IMO. £25-35 IIRC. If need be, I have kept my full flight cases though.

That is a spoof .......... LMAO..!!!!

I use the cheap Warwick ones on the basis that they are just a decent padded cover/case. I don't expect it to do any more than enable an easy carry over the shoulder with enough padding to stop any little bumps.
I may have misheard. And I was sitting behind the guy from TC (Ulf?) but I'm sure Mark King said he was using a new RH750. It was definately a Reble Head and he had two 4x cabs. The question begs for me though...isn't the RH450 load enough for most situations?
Not for the stages he'd play, IMV.

Lots of decent suggestions here but since you don't know what you have or what state it is in... I would suggest you get a friendly amp tech to tell you the exact state of play re whether it works, the transformer issue and the cost to put it right. If you have bought it for a tenner, then, if you spend service money on it, you can still e-bay it as someone could probably do it up very easily or cheaply as they have that know-all and skill. My guy ( for example) would look at it and do basic service work for a £35.00 fee so I would hope you might be able to find someone who would do the same. I am not saying a new transformer refit would cost that though...but at least you would know where you stand I am not sure I would plug it in to a 110w works transformer as the price indicates it had no value to the seller..now why was that..? it is already damaged.? just my 2p...

agree..I would have gone just for the simple oppurtunity of seeing so much gear in one place. I didn't go as I was fully booked this weekend and also didn't need the famous slap fest Shame...

Yes, Gareth, it will be best to wait and hear what S&T can do. Hopefully, they will have a satisfactory solution.
Well I'm shocked. He has produced some cracking bass lines in the studio over the years but this......I'm lost for words!!!! Angie.
Don't want to labour the point ........but I'm gonna...but looking at that tape, that to me, is someone who either can't play... or who has not played the bass for years...and I mean YEARS. I can't believe how much time it would take to lose that facility.

IME, an Ampeg is the full valve job and it is the power stage that makes it. I am not so fussed about the valve pre's through a SS amp and not that impressed with the cabs but put them all together with a decent sounding bass and its there. I prefer Boggie but there is only one Ampeg rig, IMV and it all weighs a ton. I will be trying the more modern stuff this week, so will get an update on the HLF type cabs Many a mini stack can get trouser flapping though...if that is the criteria....well, I know one for sure.

If you are a slap player, then of course, you are going to pull a few strings just to hear how it bites and reacts. You also need to hear the rest of the way it sounds as well, so all would be part and parcel of the demo. Slap for slap sake is just as tedious as tapping etc etc ...
Those were the most appalling videos I've ever seen, I would rather listen to someone throw up against an out of tune harp whilst reciting Cannibal Corpse lyrics then go through that excruciating experience again.
Considering this guy is credited with being part of a legendary soul/funk outfit. I can't quite believe it myself. Very very odd.

Ok thanks, guys. I have daisey-chained the 2 cabs with the U/S cab first in the chain and the second cab works, of course, which is why I didn't get the cab being out of action in a new environment. I was assuming there was a fuse in the loop, but will have to talk to Aguilar guys to get any firther, I guess. Many thanks

oh...I have one for you and I'll have to dig it out..if I can find it on you-tube.. but it will not be popular
I think it depends on why you are modifying it & what you hope to achieve. ............. Personally I'd fit the John East retro Jazz pre-amp first and if that wasn't the answer to everything only then look at pups.
This would be my thinking.... The pre is pretty hot itself...so adding hot pups doesn't always mean double that... I find thinner pups have more character and tone, IMV..as opposed to power/oomph and the pre can add that if required.

ok, thanks. That sounds good thinking. There is no response from the horn or speaker but maybe the problem is before the reproductive chain of speaker/horn so jack, x-over or fuse if the device has such a thing.

I thought I would throw this out there just to get a consensus Whilst at a new gig last night I was struggling for sound from my normal rig. SWR SM400 and 2xGS112. I never ever struggle for volume or bass in all the varied gigs I have done with this set-up so I was thinking..jeez..this heavily carpeted room etc etc is soaking up a lot of volume. I had no inkling of a speaker failure and only realised for sure when I set up to practise today and one side of my amp did not work. I traced this to the cab not working, eleminated the amp and the cables from the issue for certain. I can't take it apart..just yet..as I think I have warranty on this so do not want to invalidate that, but my thoughts are internal wiring, dry solder, etc etc ... and not blown chassis.. as no sound at all and no funny failing noises, whatever they may be.. Any other thoughts..? I will of course, contact Aguilar ( have sent e-mail ) but just want a head start as I need to sort something out before next weekend. I have a backup plan as well, but just touting for opinions..??? Any info or informed guesses welcome Thanks.

It really is... it takes me a while to get to grips with basses and kit and I just love the more woody vintage vibe all round. I have a really pretty and fancy blond quilted Sei 5 and I take both to gigs..but the one I use the most and the one that gets the most attention is your old one. All I have done is added a quality tort plate from Sims and it looks, plays and sound great.
Ah, that makes sense. It doesn't sound like the recorded version, but yet seems to 'polished' to be live. Thanks.
And the good thing is that the band HAS to play it live in some form, which of course, Sly could do, but even at that time, I would think this was a lot of work to get to that situation. I can recall a whole day in the TV studio getting a decent backing track right. Nowadays, it would be so much simpler and cheaper and less time consuming but some bands today just wouldn't be able to expose themselves in that way..so would mime to the stock CD. I applaud live shows and live TV but some artists just can't afford to risk it ha ha ..you know where this is going so apologies in advance.
-
? ... if this isn't live, then I must be dead.
A common practise would be for the band to send in or spend some time in the TV studio doing the backing tracks prior to the live screening. That way the program could manage the sound, the time and and virtually every thing about the pre-recorded song. The vocals would be live to give it a 'Live' feel but IME, the backing track would be flown in so the playing is mimed. It takes a lot of risk and other problems out of the live screen but they do it this way as it is obvious you aren't hearing the CD..as would be the case in a lot of shows. This has the backing group playing live on the track but pre-recorded. I have a Larry Graham Star Licks video..but can't find the track on You tube. Subsequent videos of LG show he has embellished his technique with a more conventional action but we are talking about this track with Sly and must date around late 60's..I would think.
It's funny, but I'm pretty sure he's not slapping in this song! Certainly, if the video is live then you can see it's fingerstyle. Maybe that's why you love it?!
The video isn't live, IMO. The track is definitely slapping in Larry Graham's style. His thumb isn't so much bounced in the modern style, it is almost a downward pluck or strum but the fingers pull off the top notes. This might be an extention of how he learned the bass when at that time, the notes were played with a thumbing motion akin to a plectrum action.
