1. Yeah, 15 bucks sound pretty good. Is that volume control thing very important? I can adjust volume on my synth no problem, but with bass it's a little bit complicated coz I might be running an EBS octave pedal, so I need full volume from bass to get the right tracking with pedal. thoughts? Laimis
2. A Microkorg I've bought from Russ arrived this morning, and it was packed immensely well, Korg itself seems in a perfect condition, and the deal itself with Russ was perfectly smooth, 10 points, man easy Laimis
3. Hey guys, I've just got my Microkorg synth for doing pop stuff, but I need to switch between electric bass and synth on gigs, so I'm in need of A/B switch and avoid spending crazy amounts of money for that. I did quite a bit of search in old Basschat topics, Thomann and what I've found is this: http://www.thomann.de/gb/boss_ls2_line_selector.htm http://www.thomann.de/gb/boss_ab2_abschalter.htm http://www.thomann.de/gb/boss_fs6.htm http://www.thomann.de/gb/electro_harmonix_nano_switchblade.htm http://www.proaudiosuppliers.com/rolls-aby32.html Does anyone know whether there are major differences between those 3 Boss swiches? I don't really want to spend no more than 35-40 pounds on that, but I'd stretch to some 50 if it's badly needed.... All advice is welcome, easy Laimis.
4. Well, I don't really think iPad is the best solution (esp if you dont have Mac, and only drummer in our band has one) because it doesnt have USB or any other sort of access to it, so that aint really an option. Our managers are after a deal with Samsung so we are about getting those Samsung Galaxies S2.. Though if that doesnt work out, I'm still looking for your advices (iPads excluded ) easy Laimis
5. Hey Garry, Do you know any info with advice on doing simple, not orchestral, [pop] tunes' chord charts/transcriptions? easy Laimis
6. Yeah, I know that man, as I've said I'm getting chord sheets from piano and guitar players, so that aint a problem, I'm just looking for transcribed grooves, something like Estelle's American Boy, so that I'd save time for writing that out - we'll be doing shortened versions of these tunes (90 seconds), but I still have to transcribe at least to the bridge in case the MD decides to throw in bridge to the song.. thanks man, Laimis
7. Hey guys, I'm doing a TV show here in Lithuania, and we're doing 60 tunes, 30 of them will be some contemporary pop/RnB/rock stuff.. I'm getting chord sheets for these, but wondered if anyone has some of these trannies (dots only, no tabs, please..): (list below) PS I know there are some really straightforward tunes, where a transcription is not needed, but I'm just copying a list - mainly what I'm looking for is Wonder's tunes, and other tunes that have distinctive/tricky basslines... Any help much appreciated, folks, easy Laimis [b]5. 9. To put it short, no matter how you look at it - you are playing the way you are practising (as rough as it sounds). You have to make your practice more efficient, first of all, stop watching TV, take incoming calls, look after kids, surf Basschat anything.. Then, concentrating on the practice process itself, and do the right exercises. It seems that you don't really know how to cure your problem, so your best bet would be getting a teacher - a good teacher would notice your issues even without telling him at first, just by playing. You might want to read this and that; http://www.joehubbardbass.com/494/finger-dexterity-exercises-for-bass-guitar/ http://www.joehubbardbass.com/332/bass-guitar-practice-principles-part-1/ http://www.joehubbardbass.com/317/bass-attributes-part-2/ take care, Laimis
10. Make sure to follow Joe's advice how to set the programme, so that you actually benefit from this exercise - his instructions are lower on that page about exercise/ear training - if you mess with it only in one octave, or don't add all 'outside' notes, you're pretty much wasting your time. If set correctly, it's bloody hard in the begining, and can take you from several months to few years to get 100 percent, but it's worth it. happy shedding Laimis
11. Hey Guys, Soon we're gonna start doing a big TV show "The Voice" (You can check out Youtube for "The Voice of America" and "The Voice of Holland") and the thing is that we gonna have shitload of tunes to do (60 tunes for the first round). We are now discussing with our band how to avoid having 60 sheets on the music stand during a live show - its not really handy nor good looking for TV, so we are thinking of getting either some sort of text readers (something like Kindle Reader) or one of those Tabs, like Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 or Acer A500. I thought maybe some of you have any experience with dealing with gadgets like that? Any have experience with plain text readers - what is needed from them is the ability edit material on the fly and USB port to import material. PS Do you find comfortable to read music (dots and/or chord progressions) from a 10.1 inch screen? any thoughts much appreciated, Laimis
12. Pretty ok year for me, the best thing was finding out (and still it taken way too long!!) about Joe Hubbard's private online bass lessons - he's just top guy, when it comes to tuition. First half of the year wasnt really good, I havent had any gig for that time, but in the summer, I was hired to sit in a TV-shows band, so we're now gonna be busy as f***, doing shows like "The Voice" and Major TV events, like annual Christmas Eve gigs, and such. Looking forward to 2012! easy Laimis
13.
Dave Weckl and Steve Smith also went to Gruber within the last few years. Over the last couple of years,Peart has been studying with Peter Erskine. You'd be surprised at how many well known drummers have gone back to study, usually with great teachers like Jim Chapin or Fred Gruber.
Well, some pro's didnt even have to 'go back' to study, because, they actually have never stopped studying with their teachers - Mike Stern studied with Charlie Banacos from the days back in Berklee back to 2009, when Charlie died. As for practicing, one thing that really struck a chord for me, was that quote from Banacos : "You will play the way you practice, no matter how you look at it". Laimis
14.
I'm really rubbish with anything technical, and to program the Miniak you have to go into menus and edit things like attack, envelope and that kind of thing. I'm just quite impatient and don't get along with that kind of programming and editing (that's the same reason that I don't use the Roland V Bass as much as I could). Luckily for me the Miniak has some cool built in sounds, including a cool Moog type sound that I use most of the time. I mainly just use 2 or 3 of the stock sounds. If you've got more patience than me (and know what youre doing)programming the Miniak is probably no big deal.
I wish I knew what attack and envelope means in that kind of stuff... But I'll do some research if I'll get one. You said you're looking for new synth - are you going to sell this one? easy Laimis
15. This is not really topic-related, but have you guys heard anything about Hadrien Feraud coming down to Europe this late fall with Dean Brown Band - Brown is a Marcus Miller's guitar player. I've checked his myspace and searched internet, but all I found is a few dates in Instambul. Any more dates you may know about in Europe?
16. I've got some TV pop shows coming up, and I've been thinking of getting one of those bass synths lately, though I don't have a Mac and I dont want to mess with computers, as they dont seem to be reliable enough (in the last Big pop show I've done, even two Mac's proved that - my drummer's Mac, that we used for click-tracks, broke down during a final rehearsal for no actual reason, and another Mac, that one artist was using for keyboards and synth bass, broke during the show itself..) I've been thinking about Akai MiniAK, the one that Doddy uses - it seems cool for starter, but, Doddy, what do you actually mean by that Akai being pain in the ass with programming? Don't You just program one or few sounds and leave it there? easy Laimis
17. Well, there are other notes that you can resolve to other than chord tones - dig out some good theory book (like Mark Levine's ) and look what's 'above' each base seventh chord - that'll be tensions.
18. Take it easy, man, no one makes it over one night - just shed it each day lil' by little. As for the exercise, just make sure that those chromatics don't last more than an eight note (if you're playing in swing) and they aint followed by a rest. In other words, you want to outline chord tones, not chromatic bits.
19.
Ok then guys, think its time for a new thread to discuss things, your clogging up my sales thread
I wouldnt worry too much, man, it keeps your advert on top anyway, man easy Laimis
20.
Make sure you actually try a MicroKorg if you go down that route, i couldn't get on with the user face last time i looked at one & the tiny keys are a total no go with the size of my hands!
I don't know if I'd have the chance to do that, because there are no guys in area who'd be using things like that, and I'd buy that synth 'blind'... but then, Alesis keys are the same size I think, but my fingers are long, but not too bulky, and, practice makes perfect easy Laimis
21. I did some research on 'proper' bass synths (the ones that can be plugged into bass amp), and starter (cheapest) options would be Alesis Micron or Korg Microkorg - they both go around 320 pounds new, so it's pretty much the same .
22. Heck, 500 quid is a lil bit too much, I thought I'd get away with a few hundred (I don't need anything major as it would be my first synth..) Any cheapish options you may know, man? easy Laimis
23. Ok, well, Reynold's stuff may be a lil' cheesy at times, but I think Janek is pretty killin' on this one, his solo with a developed motif is really nice... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_MholeBRDs&feature=feedbul easy Laimis
24. Well, my drummer has a Mac, so maybe I could use his on live shows, but it's not the best option.. What do you mean by a 'dedicated keyboard'? I think I would like one of those that can go straight to bass amp, not computer. Doddy has one of these I think: http://www.thomann.d...akai_mpk_49.htm I don't know if he's using a computer to run that though. easy Laimis
25. i've just been looking at these - but isnt 25 keys a bit too little to play some synth bass stuff? (that's what you've used it for, right?) Sorry for being a bit of a noob on these, but do they only work by being connected to a computer (and I don't really have a Mac, all I have is little HP laptop..) - I mean, does it still work ok by being connected straight to the bass amp? What the new keyboard you're getting? easy laimis
