We went into sorta youth-music fest during our city, Kaunas, Days. We got to do 'check-the-sound' in 5 minutes. I've put amp's eq horribly and had to change it during my intro-playing. But when my guitarist's sh*tty Vintage 'went out' ( G string went out)... God, I've showed him signs to shut the guitar up, cuz he's rhythm player, but he simply shook his head and continued. At the 2nd song we had to sing, and was a backing throat... We played "So f***ing What" and my fingers didn't respond. Backing was sooo shity too. Btw, after the gig rhythm-git player said - why didn't I manage to take off...
And Bob Rock - LOL
Yup, that's the guy. He played a few shows with Tallica during their 'hard' years ( 2001-2003 first months). If I remember correctly, looking to him as a player, he's more like g*itarist than a bazepleje, but, man, that guy can do Master of Muppets ( with a help of a pick, of course, hehe ) here it is... (btw, it's hard to see Bob, as 'they' don't show him much- like he's not a member, but he really plays up there. Oooh, you can see him quite well at 05:20-38, just spotted..): http://youtube.com/watch?v=kMbHH4081tY He's best known as producer, but guys, Bassassasin too, I'd suggest, let's not make this thread 'about g*itar players who played bass at some time'.. Yeah, James played bass, he even recorded Tallica's songs when they didn't have as bass player... So what? He's a player.

Thanks, chaps, but, maybe anyone uses Tu12th or 15th on ERB's? ;-)
-
Are they all ok with low B string? Which would ya suggest, guys? Waitin' for your ops, Faith.
-
Ok, guys, I'm very happy that my flimfams transformed into sorta discussion, that I was 'seeking' for, and, Mr. Gamble and other fellas- don't forget to mention bands' albums that are worth listening mostly - we don't want to get through all discography ( like Mr. Claypool's - 11 diferrent solo and band albums together), do we, chaps? I personally would like to know more about SIKTH's made-jobs.

Why do so many people dislike Mr. Labrie? For me, despite the fact it was a 'record', his voice in "Systematic Chaos" is outstanding. Well, his vocals isn't for everyone's taste, but it has sorta drive and expression that does the trick. And, regrettably, many people don't get that. What about DT's version of Pastor of Muppets... You know, maybe I'm too used to Hetfield's raging voice, so Labrie's vocals simply couldn't reach that level. He was lack of expression and that made whole thing sound boringly.. I couldn't say Labrie's voice just isn't for MoP, but, maybe, if they'd try again now, and with some A LOT more expression it could do the trick with MoP's interpretation...
3. Perhaps many of us aspiring bass players also avoid rock music after reaching a certain standard as it's not as challenging to play as funk & jazz?
Uh... I certainly can't agree with that. Not that long time ago I thought ( with my teacher's-jazzist's help, by the way...) that rock is kinda limited music, and funk & jazz is the 'true' thing for a player who uses to keep himself as a 'true' bassist. But then I discovered progressive rock/metal, however you call it, because I don't see much difference there.. So, every kind of music is interesting in it's way, and, no doubts, as challening as other ones. OK, we can then discuss that prog-rock is just a pile of jazz/funk/metal and many other little genres, but that's why it's prog. And that's why it satisfies me. Cuz it still haves that agression and herewith mistycism, oddness. Don't we forget, that every kind of music has something from 'other side'.

Their music is so much interesting, though, I'd maybe like a little more action. But live experience - I think they'd be outstanding. I could suggest somethin' similar to this, SoundArcade, Latvian crew. You HAVE to get their "12 songs of Jackalope" - it's one of those albums, that's interesting from start to finish ( the 15th song, by the way... ). One song is just about 'normal' song, in the other sings some old-folky-biddy and then the band joins in... It's so much awesome. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...iendid=43245897 The 1st and 3rd Myspace song is from that album.

Check 'em out, chaps: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...iendID=14688101 That's Dysrhythmia, psycho-instrumental rock

Yeah, that's the same SoundGear'ful 'He' got the first real gig few weeks ago, and, despite my amp has 300watt power, both g*itarists were crying because of Ibazzy's power It's an enormous thing... For now I can only dream about the tone, when that thing will get new strings ( been using same factory Elixirs for 8 months now... It's hard to get same Elixirs here, in Lithuania.. Still, shame on me ) and Line 6 POD XT Live, adding some Rob Trujill'ious crunch to the tone... Neck suits me very well, the only 'not OK' thing about Ibazzy is body - it's hard to comfortably 'get to' highest frets, and as I got some really tough solo starting there, that becomes a Problem..
-
Yeah, the tone is sooo wide - you need to tweak Mid Freq just a little and look - sound's different. Neck's sex too - so easy to walk through the fingerboard. But I got some probs with EQ treble/boost knobs - when I adjust them, sometimes they loose contact, i don't know, with preamp? and the tone is lost. And there's sort of buzzing through the amp, when I tweak them, so I'm a bit dissappointed. I showed this to some people, but they said it's better to wait for the End ( if it will come) and then try repairing, cuz it's problematic...
-
It must be that, dude!

So are there any serious Ibanez forums out there? As I've searched through net, couldn't find one. Hope, it exists.

If ya'll start mentioning your bands, don't forget to put a few words by all about genre, folks ( is it prog or is it not, or somethin..) I'm currently listening to... Dream Theater ( Prog Metal) Meshuggah ( Prog [death?] metal) Dysrhythmia ( veeeery recommended instrumental Proggy thing - they're insane.. only the first album 'Contradiction' isn't that worth listening) SoundArcade (Latvian psychedelic/experimental/... Progressive crew, damnit - their newest work '12 songs of Jackalope' is insane too..) some Mr. Les Claypool tunes. Primus sucks. Ya know what i mean they're are on my MP3 now, can't remember any more Prog now... Gimme some true Prog, chaps! P.S. Sibob, try watching John's instructional video - you'll then truly understand what word boring means. Though, instructional material is great.

To fit guard or not to fit guard? That is the question!
I've got my SR1000EFM Prestige strung with Status groundwounds... What with the Bartolinis I just can't describe the smooth deep sound. It's wonderful
What forced you to 'abandon' 5-string-thing, mate?
-
Back to it's origin... But I thought people'd realise what kind of stuff I'm talking about, when they read surnames, bands names, etc...
-
Oh, man, I've just realised I've forgotten to mention a word Progressive. In this way, the main thing is, I'm interested in Prog music. You know, Dlloyd, I've used to listen to all those 'rock bands ( and, truly, listening sometimes now ), but when I 'entered' that area of prog-rock/metal music... When I looked to for eg. Mr. Myung or Dood at what they're doin', how they're jerkin' that bass and realised how Much you can do with that thing.. I can proudly say, that this is IT, man, what keeps me inspiring on listening and playing that 'prog-rock-bass'!
Well, personally I think obZen's very good too, but yeah, can't beat Nothing... Is this a very subtle "GOD I HATE JAZZ!!!" thread? I like metal and jazz, but metal is music to listen to whilst jazz is music to talk about!
You know, ObZen's complex thing, Nothing's too, but, what I feel about their newest material... Despite the fact they are 'back' to their roots ( I mean 4/4), due to the fact they're very serious about what they're doing, sometimes people 'over-do' things, you know.. I mean, there is some great complex stuff out there in Meshuggah's and other bands' lists, but, for me, ObZen is umm.. Waaaay out of the way, i would say... To compare with other genres, it's like listening to some crazy jazzy stuff, but it's not just about 'not understanding where's the beginning and where's the ending', it's more about listening and 'getting' the effect like 'playing one song through Winamp, and the other through Youtube at the same time... And what do you get there, eh? But it's not really about thread 'Hatting jazz', mate I don't have much against it.
The thing about bass and metal is that typically, if a bassist does anything other than play root notes or just copying the rhythm guitar, it's seen as not metal, or at least incorporating other styles, so when we talk about fretless bass players, we're including Steve DiGiorgio and Chapman sticks and ERBs are gonna relate to John Myung or whatever but nobody's really interested in what Dick Lövgren plays because it's exactly the same as the guitar... right?
I can't dig why chaps think that the bass is covering rhythm guitar.. Take a Look from a different angle When I play with rhythm-git player, it is he, who covers me Don't be quelled by those gu*tarists, folks
-
Well, I may be misunderstood for this, but I'll try at least.. So, it's about half-a-year I'm on this chat - reading topics, laughing at Ped( everything's cool, mate ), watching sorta porn, so on.. And it's really nice to be 'surrounded' by so many people, that are sensible about basses and stuff, but, the thing I kinda feel this area is lack of a bit is... When I think of Basschat, I simply know that people love Fender's, a words called groove and jazz, Jamerson and so much other thingies, but.. Aren't we interested in what John Myung is doing, what's Dood doing ( we have our own rocky-chaps here, don't we? ), what about Rob Trujillo's using, how's new Meshuggah's album ( IMO Nothing is their best work so far..), do you know Dysrhythmia and sooooo on... Generaly, I'm interested in that 'complex' side of rock/metal music, and those persons/bands musicially, technically, visualy, even psychologically represent it for me.. I mean, I like music of any genre, one day I listen to some Les Claypool tunes, the other to Jay Kay's voice, the third to some crazy Meshuggah rhythmic patterns.. There's so much good music out there, but don't you, folks, want to ROCK? I hope at least few understood my flimflams.. Cheers, chaps, waitin' for you thoughts, F8
-
Well, umm, knobs on mate's two Ibazzies look the same as mine - Volume, Pickup Control, and the other two are 'doubled' - one with treble/bass boost, the other with Mid boost/Mid Freq. And, mate, you're not the only one got into intimate relationships with SR's
-
Their lil bodies are sex!... Welcome to Ibazzy family, by the way, pal!
-
Mr. Claypool. Les Claypool. He is soo special here. Natural Joe, Greet the Sacred Cow, Mama Didn't Raise no Fool, Nature Boy... and... taaa, taaa, taaa.. Holy Mackerel!
-
I mean, what key in it goes on? We have Ab, G, F, D#, D, C# and so on... It'd be way easer to work when combining shifts and so on, but I can't get it what's used in Runaway. Help appreciated, folks.
