You didn't list "Thumb only" as an option. Surly that's quite different from fingers.
Sorry, I didn't think about this option... And, as I see, there's no possibility to change the poll.
-
So, I'm simply interested, which "thing" do you prefer ( look at the poll), and if you're able - explain, Why do you like using [... fingers, pick, both, etc...] - because of particular sound, or it [pick/fingers] simply looks "standart" with bass, or you're "tired" to start learning with some, or something else...
-
Well, at the moment, I'm choosing between Line6 Pod XT Live and BOSS GT-6B processor, but, practically, I don't know anything about pitch-shifters ( prices, working and so on).
-
So, can Pitch-shifter work with processor? Sorry, if it's dumb question, I simply heard, that these one's are separate things, and (maybe) сan't work together...?

I'm 17, I play bass only for 10 months. I prefer fingerstyle playing ( somehow, i hate picks... doubtless, it's regular ). I've now switched from 4 to 5 string bass, and, I think, I'm going to stay on it. Got a band, play rock music ( Pantericca covers for now, on autumn we'll start creating something proper) I've graduated music school ( all other 3 bandmates graduated same school), now, I'm having lessons at Jazz-player btw, he's going to UK tommorow, so, If anybody happens to hear jazzband from Lithuania, maybe it's him...). I also like singing, so I have back-vocals post. That's all, - work hard, keep it goin', enjoy, what you're doing, and never regret for your actions! bassmania

I just got it today. For now, I'm trying to "switch" from my old, damn 4-string Vintage to this 5-string beauty, but, when we'll just know each other better, I'll drop some report in Reviews. Enjoy.
its funny that the 'live' DVD sounds a whole lot better than the album itself. Worst sounding rock record ever made?
Well, I wouldn't say it's "Worst sounding rock record ever made"... It's quite good, but, when played with Robert.. it simply sounds Different. And it's normal - Bob isn't a bassplayer, he's producer, so everything's regular Btw, we went to off-topic, but I'm too exhausted to talk about amps today... Goodnight
-
They've re-played whole St.Anger in several rehearsals with Robert, and put all that to DVD. I would appreciate if the record would have been done with Trujillo - on a DVD songs sounded awesome...
-
Yeah, I know this. My amp is 260wt, so it's quite enough for now. Mostly available are Laney and Ashdown products, also Hiwatt and Peavey. There are also few other brands to choose in our capital's shop, but I don't know them to be used widely. In fact, I didn't decide to choose only between those brands, that exist in Lithuania - if I'd find something serious, I could subscribe it at shop to bring it from another country, or even to buy on Ebay.
-
Thanks for suggestions, guys. You see, there's low assortment of amps and cabs here, in Lithuania, other thing, I've never dealt with eBay, but, as far as I can see, 1st time is coming... I've seen Funk's suggestions about various types, thanks to you, though, yet I don't "understand" all of them, I'll try investigate deeper. By the way, I was thinking about Ashdown products - what about it? And, one thing about the power - it seems, that tube amps are waaay more powerful, than transistor ( I've compared it on my friend's, guitarist's amps - 50wt tube and 125wt), so, if remembering Kiwi's suggestion about 100/150+ wt amps, so is there a real need to use multiple cabs? Truly, I would like to "get" a huge dose of sound but... So what about those tubes?
-
So, for now I have Laney RB8 amp - it's "transistor", and I'm not happy with sound. It's sort of hard, harsh, (I play rock music, so most say, it fits) but I want way more "softer, burring" sound - sound, that shrouds "everything", herewith, it's still a deep bass. That is to say, I'd like something similar to Metallica bassist's, Robert's sound ( especially, on St.Anger DVD) - so If you know, how it sounds there, you know, what I, more or less, mean. When I was in shop, and told about the sound, which I want, I was told, I need a tube amp( or cabinet? ) with pre-amp. So, Simply, I'm looking for a thing, that wouldn't be madly expensive( would I find something "normal" for about 500-700 euros?...) In fact, I'm not going to buy tube before long, just checking, so, maybe I would gather more money for a serious thing in future. All advices about noteworthy amps are welcome. Cheers

I (though, very rarely) use D'Andrea's Formula Delrex 1.14mm pick - it's quite hard one - good when play fast, especially on low, E string.
-
Other... Vintage V800PK But only few days left, till i get Ibanez SR1005
-
I use Laney RB2 - I bought it exactly for practising at home, plus Panasonic RP-HG11 headphones. Then, when I didn't have an amp. ( about half of year) I've been practising acousticly, but it's was probably the worst variant of all - it has to be silent to properly hear the instrument, and the main thing - you can't hear all those "trash" - so I think, acoustic practising is crap.
-
F*ck it, today I've subscribed Ibanez, now, all that's left - to wait about a month. Hope, I won't regret it for such money
Do you really need the 23 and 24th frets? A US Fender will have better residual value than the Ibanez. If you go for a US Deluxe Jazz or Precision, you'll get two extra frets, 18V active circuit and noisless pickups. There's nothing the Fender can't do that the Ibanez could.
Well, I don't need those two frets that deadly, but, in fact, there's one solo where I need them, also, those two fit when playing scales and so on.
-
I'd go for the Ibanez without a doubt. The Ibanez will produce tones similar to the Fender but with a more modern sound. As far as build quality is concerned, the Prestige models are great. The other players and your teacher I suspect probably have a Precision themselves and haven't tried the Ibanez to really comment on it - they are airing on the side of tradition.
My teacher has Sadowsky bass, friend - MusicMan, and so on - the point is that no-one has P-bass But, in fact, none of them play rock, most - jazz, so that's why I don't listen them implicitly. However, somehow Ibanez was my favorite all the time
Yes and a p-bass is a PRECISION bass. What's ur point? Besides Jason Newstead plays a lakland jazz copy (im surprised u didn't know that considering ur avatar...)
I was talking about Jazz basses too - i'm surprised you failed to read my 1st post clearly... Considering Metallica, the very last person I'm interested in, is very Mr. Newstead. My point is, that Fender basses are quite versalite - and, if looking to the future, I'm going to play varied music - not only rock, but funk, jazz maybe. Well, the string spacing - when I tried 5-string Godin, I thought that the spacing is too low, but, really, it's just a matter of time to attune to it. Thanks for your opinions
-
Looking for a new bass - I'm playing rock, so ,all in all, I've decided to choose between some Fender bass and Ibanez SR1005 Prestige. I need 5-string, 24-fretted, active bass ( as the Ibanez is...), but other players and my teacher suggests to think about Fender bass(especially about Precision series). I've looked through Fender's site, but most P-basses are 4-string and 21/22-fretted... Only Jazz basses are 5-stringed, but... they are 22 fretted. And they are JAZZ basses So, is there any real need to look over Fender's in this particular case or should I even look over something else? And some other things, I should know, when looking for bass like that...? I'm going invest a fair amount of money, so I'd like to choose a good variant Thanks in advance, Faith
Wasn't it Cliff Burton who played on that song? I never thought he used anything other than an old morley wah and a russian big muff?
You're right - Clifford was the true composer of That Song. Robert Trujillo re-played it in Metallica's last tour. The hell is "Russian big muff"?
What's a tierce pedal?
Actually, it's my mistake - there's no such a thing. I've been to the shop yesterday, and I was told about harmonizer, so now, everything's clear My teacher is going to lend me BOSS GT6B before the concert.
-
So, the problem is, I'm quite inefficient on this. I'm looking for effects( distortion with <maybe> some type of chorus?.... ) that Robert Trujillo plays in Orion with. Which BOSS processors would similar to them? There's also a tierce pedal in bass solo near the end of song. Could you suggest anything good? Thanks for answers.

Hi everyone, I'm new here, mate from Lithuania, Kaunas. Though, bass-mania "took" me not that long ago - about 9 months, but I'm really getting seriously involved in this whole thing. What I like best? - Heavy, trash, power metal, hard rock, and stuff like that. Metallica, Pantera, Black Sabbath and so on and so forth... I prefer finger-playing only, but, because of mine not long-time playing, I use a pick sooometimes... It's because I don't want to try play very fast ( and wrongly, of course...) right now. Finger speed will come time by time, i think. Yet, I don't have good quality gear, but "better" should come few months later. So - bass is Vintage V-800 ( I know, that thing is not excatly for metal/rock playing, but when I bought it, I was simply raw on those things - I took the same bass, as my friend, "rock player", had Bass will be the first serious thing in my "whole" gear, that I am going to change. Amplifier - Laney Rb8, ~260wt power. I'm thinking of changing it to some serious Ashdown tube, but i'm not certain yet. Second amp is Laney Rb2 - 30wt power, this is for my home practise and it's going to stay long in my home:) That's all for now, I hope I'll find some friends of "my kind" and we'll have positive discussions about all the stuff. Good luck, everybody, from Lithuania!
