1. I looked into a replacement for my SB Elite a while back. One day I'll get a Rautia one, for now there's a generic soapbar pickup with a couple of shims to fill the gaps.
2. This is what's under the pup cover. Rather a lot of solid resin. Getting that rewound might cost more than the new replacements
3. If they're the usual Aria pickups they'll be potted in resin. Not much chance of getting them rewound. A Finnish company make replacements: http://www.rautiaguitars.net/aria-pro-ii.html but they're not that cheap.
4. Could they have lowered the bit rate any more for that first video? Unless the amp is creating those compression artefacts!!
5.
One I like, Crowbar's Remember Tomorrow https://www.youtube....w759AI7J8LE#t=2
Have you heard Opeth's version? Then there's how not to do it:
6. Andrew Weiss uses overdrive and filters nicely.
7.
I love the reverb Justin Chancellor uses on The Grudge when the song drops down to just bass At 1:19 https://youtu.be/EiR1hmpk-x4 Also his use of whammy? Wah? At 9:33 in this, not sure but awesome. https://youtu.be/VZXJLQntCP0

love that part in Rosetta! most tool stuff has really good use of effects, for me it schism or parabola which are my faves https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bKy57OeNU8 the start of parabola is awesome! and when its getting real heavy at the end the bass is filth! andy
Thank you both. It's been too long since I last listened to TOOL...
8.
so I've ordered a custom build from Maruszczyk for MIM money.
They make some seriously nice looking basses.
9. I have absolutely no need for that pedal in my band, but I really want one!!
10. The acrylic ones look awesome!
11. Si, I'd be interested in a PCB if you do have a spare one... I still haven't finished my Rat and Zen Drive clones as I've been repairing my 4x10" cab...
12. Currently listening to Green Day - Kerplunk. Not listened to this for about 20 years, I gave up on Green Day with Dookie. But recently I've been listening to a lot of early 90s US punk-ish bands. I think I have a new found respect for Mike Dirnt. I'll have to revisit Dookie too...
13. I didn't know Noise Works was still about. I went in there years ago, next time I'm in Cov I'll have to take a stroll over there.
14. I tried a friend's Ric many years back and I didn't really get on with it. But I still really want one, for this reason:
When I listen to one of my fave albums ever - the Black Album, by the Damned (bass by Paul Gray)
15.
and it weighs 12 pounds on the bathroom scales
a little bit lighter than the blue sparkle MiJ one then...
16. Yep, that one. Dead simple and changing the 100nF caps for 470nF ones helps retain lots of low end. I've built one of these too, but not tried it yet.
17.
That's just ridiculous - everybody knows the MGF is the sensible choice. MX5 pah! - no character
But the Diahatsu [s]Shoe[/s] Copen is cheaper, therefore better.
18. So the argument is: Even when a Rickenbacker sounds great a much cheaper bass will sound better?? How do cheap Ric copies fare in this? What's especially great about this thread is it's an opinion as fact thread.
19. Also remember that the vintage of today was the mass produced garbage of yesterday...
20. I thought it was the glitchy synth nature to the OC2 that attracted some people to it.
21. Brilliant amps! It's a really clean sounding amp. It's not grindy as you might expect it to be, being a JJ Burnel sig amp. I love mine, if I had the money I'd get this as a backup. GLWTS!
22. There's about £100 worth of Mundorf capacitors in there. I've seen that layout of mono block before, but can't remember where.
23. Blixa Bargeld from Einstürzende Neubauten carries a little notebook around and writes down things he overhears. He once heard two old women talking and as they parted one said: "You'll find me if you want me in the garden. Unless it's pouring down with rain." he then wrote this: If you listen to people around you, you can get some interesting stuff... You just need to remember, or write down, what you hear.
