1. The second looks like an Electric Guitar Company custom order. EDIT: yep, here's a link to their photo on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/287341599023/photos/pb.287341599023.-2207520000.1414339386./10152574889359024
2. In an old band we had one song in Dropped D tuning, I wanted it at the start or end of the set. Rest of the guys voted middle. So in large red letters, with arrows and everything, I made a note on the set list to remind me to change tunings. As the previous song ended the lighting changed and a red spot shone right on the set list. Took me 1/2 the song to realise why it sounded crap...
3. Hi guys, I have 2 questions to ask builders/designers. 1) my soldering iron died yesterday. I'm fed up of buying £10 - £15 soldering irons that die after about 6 months. Can anyone recommend me a good, reasonably priced temperature controllable one please. 2) does anyone use schematic software? I'm looking for some that runs on Mac OS X. Any recommendations? Cheers
4. Does this thread help any? http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=1160761
5. A nice simple description can be found on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia...._(amplification)
6.
I prefer blue Ps with white or mint guards rather than tort. Having said that gold anodized ones don't look too shabby:
Ah, the inspiration for my change to my Steve Harris P:
7. Is it the basic blue, grey and black plastic kind, a NL2FC? If it is there's a little rectangular hole in the grey collar. You need to push the little catch down. Then there's screw terminals for the cable. Check there's nothing loose. The blue bit unscrews too, by the way, releasing the cable grips
8.
Chromes are comparably taut to the Roto 77's - although it all depends on your gauge selection.
I've had the Steve Harris strings on the SH P whilst having the normal 77s on a JV P. Both sets the same gauge. There wasn't anything between them. Chromes don't go as heavy as the 55-110 gauge of Rotos, so I hope they're not a stiff
9.
Bartelby, IME, almost ANY flats have more compliance than those. You could tow a car with tge E string. ..
I use D'Addario rounds, so I may treat the bass to some Chromes
10. I had Rotosound Steve Harris strings on my erm, Steve Harris P for a couple of years. Fantastic sounding strings but bloody stiff, and expensive. Swapped to a spare set of rounds as a temporary thing while I found some more compliant flats. But I've yet to actually buy some...
11. If I had the money I'd be on my way to Manchester right now!
12. Here's a good example of traditional Tuvan overtone singing. I have a mate who can do overtone singing pretty well, I keep meaning to visit him for lessons.
13. I did not like my BDI21pedal when I got it. Tried it out in a few different situations, then sold it. I can't remember my Sansamp BDDI sounding as the BDI21 did.
14.
I had a Fender product from Strings Direct delivered by Interlink Express, the day I ordered it, I was given a email confirmation - it would be delivered Monday, with a 'Follow my Parcel Now' link. On the delivery day, this gave me a 1 hour time slot, the driver's name & online tracking where you can watch the van/driver's progress with an updated ETA for my parcel . My delivery was number 50 on his schedule & while he was making his previous drops, 48 & 49 I could see which roads he was in - just around the corner! Brilliant! Fascinating to watch as your parcel gets closer if you've nothing better to do & yes it was delivered in perfect condition, inside the 1 hour given. 15. I've used every version but I missed Reason 7. It's come a long way in it's time. I should upgrade to 8 really
16.
You can get the real ODB-3 for less than that used too. Forgot to mention the ODB-3, but I don't really class it as an overdrive, more a mislabelled distortion!
I agree. Even with the "lower gain" mod it's still more a distortion.
17. When I joined an established originals band I asked them if they minded me changing the basslines. Their answer was "not at all, as long as your lines fit and suit the song"
18.
Lots of places like B&Q offer a panel cutting service (first x cuts free etc) which can make buying from them a lot more cost effective. Turn up with the cutting list from Bill's plans and they'll cut your sheet down into the required pieces that will be square cut with square edges. This should make assembly a lot simpler and result in nice tight joints. As for radius'ing the edges, you can do it using a batten, your jigsaw and some sandpaper. Use the jigsaw on the angle (most have adjustable bed plates) to chew off the meat of the corner (say 60 degrees from each side) then smooth the radius with a sanding block and sandpaper. Use a baton either clamped or screwed to the cabinet to keep the jigsaw running in a straight parallel line with the edge you are trimming.
You need to be careful with B&Q cutting service though. They may not be as accurate as you'd like.
19.
I started that, but in the end there were just too many exercises for me to fit it in to the rest of my life. Pity, as I was finding it useful for mixing recordings. Some pretty tough exercises - trying to pick out a 1dB lift at 12kHz (especially with my hearing being how it is these days).
Exactly the same for me too. 3 hours a week sounds like nothing, until you actually try to do something. EDIT: and 300 listening exercises per week got really tiring!! Also, trying to pick out a 1dB boost at 12kHz with a screaming toddler in the background proved too difficult...
20. This is like a simplified version of the Critical Listening course from Belfast uni that you can do online.
21. Yeah, that review sums it up nicely... And swap the chrome plate for a gold one:
22.
I like to throw in a Billy Sheehan ring finger now and again too,
How many do you have, and doesn't he miss them? EDIT: I do the same thing though. But not so much these days, as if I need the extra speed I tend to switch to a pick. The faster songs tend to need the extra attack
23. turn off "show all music" on your device. then it goes. Not much use if you actually use cloud based music though...
24. I have a Fender Steve Harris P (Royal Blue and chrome) mainly because I've wanted a bass that looks like that since about 1985. It's also a bloody good bass. But it now has a gold pickguard, so it looks more like an Edgar Willis sig...
