1. I recently borrowed a jazz bass from a mate, it needs some tlc. The first job was to clean the fretboard. Used the back of a penknife blade as th gunk was dried and crusty. Then used an isopropyl alcohol wipe to get rid of the rest. Will give it some lemon oil when I can.
2. Can you measure the dimensions of one of them? I have an old Warwick bridge, if they're the same size you can have the bits out of it... If I can find it. The Warwick ones are 12 x 7.5 x 3.5 mm
3. I can't remember the last time I bought a cd. 95% of the music I buy is on vinyl. 50% of those come with a download code at MP3 320kbps (at worst, a lot give you choices from MP3 256kpbs through to FLAC), which is good enough to listen to on an ipod or in the car. The other 5% are downloads from emusic. I pop into HMV now and again to look at the dvd & bluray selection. I was surprised to see vinyl back in HMV last time I went though, and at a decent price.
4. Black hardware, black pearl pickguard
5.
So, a folk man, eh?
I knew I'd forgotten something!!
6. anything mentioning: funk, jazz, pop, classic rock, covers band, tribute band, glam rock, Rush, Jaco, Beatles I'll add as I think of more
7. Welcome to the Pleasuredome - Frankie Goes To Hollywood 30 years since it's release.
8. Last gig I played we were told to bring amp head only as the cabs would be supplied. Usually I take a cab anyway, but as my mates van was broken and we went in my car I didn't have room. Turn up at the venue and see a small Line6 2x10 combo on the stage, heart sinks a little. I ask the promoter about the supplied cab. He shrugs and says I'm to use the Line6. The other band sound check, combo is at full tilt, only just audibly, farting out notes, my heart sinks more. I ask the sound guy where the cab, I was told was available, was. He points to a smallish Marshall cab. I go and check it out. No back, no labels on drivers, no multimeter to confirm impedance and, worst of all, part of an instrument lead hard wired as the connector. I talk to the owner of the Line6 who say I can change any of the settings as it has memories and his are all programmed into number 1. I use the Line6, turn off the 'Deep' setting, set the tone controls to a more appropriate setting than all maxed. Farting goes away, sounds louder and clearer. So I get through the gig ok. I'm going to be certain to take a head and a cab from now on.
9. I had 2 PF-500 both failed with the fault light staying on. Returned the 2nd one and got a full refund after 6 months. Wouldn't trust the PF range at all.
10. My band use a R24 to record jam/writing sessions. The internal mics are good enough to record rough ideas. Obviously it's not going to give you studio quality recordings. We place it about 12' from the bass and guitar cabs (the 3 form a, more or less, equilateral triangle). For levels we just make sure nothing's in the red for too long. We've also used it to record better quality demos. Bass DI'd from Zoom B3, 3 mics for drums, one for guitar and one for vocals. There was some spill across the drum and guitar mics, but that was minimised with orientation of gear and screens.
11.
Love the production, but, how did he get there and how long did it take. What were his risks and sacrifices? blue
Probably taken about 15 years to get where they are now. In the beginning he couldn't pay rent and once they started touring the world he didn't get to see his mates all the time. I know which life style I'd go for given the chance at his age. As a side note, the Warwick in my avatar was his. He used it to pay rent to another mate. I then bought it off him.
Seen them a few times and always liked his playing, fantastic front man in Benji as well. Really a great live band.
I haven't seen them since they first formed, when Ginge was still drumming for them. Benji is definitely one of a kind.
12. This is a friend: http://www.laney.co.uk/artists/daniel_pugsley He's made it to quite near the top in the genre
13. My battered Aria Pro II SB Elite. Modifications started in the late 80s with the addition of a Hipshot D-tuner. Then came the Dimarzio Model One. Then the end of the fretboard was scalloped. Recently the original pickup died so I borrowed one from my Dean. Then I borrowed the Dean's preamp too...
14. Far too many to list, but first ones to mind: Portishead - Dummy Tricky - Maxinquaye Iron Maiden - Powerslave Metallica - Ride the Lightning Sunn O))) - Black One Mezbow - Pulse Demon Grinderman - Grinderman 2 Rowland S Howard - Pop Crimes All the Fugazi albums
15. If I'm noodling about at home or during band practice I have the amp turned up and dig in less (using it for accents and the like). What I need to stop is the, adrenalin fueled, digging in during gigs...
16.
That's because https is a "secure" protocol. You're not supposed to able to share anything while surfing like this. Quite why anyone needs to be looking at YouTube in this mode is beyond me though...
I think if you're logged into YouTube it runs in the secure mode.
17.
yeah, saw them play in bristol before, very good stuff
Was that the gig at the Exchange when Al fell off the stage? I've seen them a few times in Bristol. When they played The Cooler, several years back, I was completely blown away by them.
18. 2 piece with no guitar? OM
19. Finally got around to doing the volume mod to my Bass Big Muff. Also did the mids mod whilst it was all apart. Need to play with the values of components for the mids though.
20. The Guardian have a bass player friendly quiz. http://www.theguardi...-match-band-top I got 8/10. Not even heard of the 2 I got wrong
21. I tried to once, because I'd stupidly forgotten the power adapter, but every time I stepped on a switch it would switch off and on again. The batteries were quite loose and broke contact when I knocked the pedal. I had to stick some folded paper in the battery compartment to hold them in place. Fortunately I discovered the problem during a soundcheck.
22.
Your band sounds LOUD! Too loud for a LB. What about the CTM amps? If that's too much money, maybe check out some of Mr Foxen's* older amps like Sound City etc. Where has he gone, anyway?
He's here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Ampstack/351966881575839
23. So where are the videos guys?
