Last time I saw Red Sparowes they had their films on dvd and just used a dvd player through an average projector. It worked well, and the player and projector would cost less than a laptop these days.

Took my 8ohm cabs to band rehearsal, that was actually a song writing session as the drummer couldn't make it, and playing with gain at 11'oclock and vol at 12 it was fine. Ran prefectly with no drop outs. Next week I'll take the cabs and see what happens at a higher volume... So, it's looking like it it doesn't like a 4 ohm cab.
Reminds me of a time when the band I was in had collectively decided to add a song not in the printed set list but neglated to tell me so I confidently lauched into the wrong song ...
Which reminds me of the time the vocalist's printer ran out of black ink with one set list left to print so he uses blue ink. I get the blue set list, half way through the set the lights change colour and I'm bathed in blue, I look down and the set list appears blank... From where I am I can't see any other set lists and they launch into the next song without announcing what it is.

I mutter a coupe of swear words, quickly glance at the guitarists left hand and play root notes for a beat or two and hope I figure it out

I think I have seen the greatest bass in the world!

I always smile when I see this photo: with two Sunn 412L 4x12 cabs (outside top); two Sunn 312 3x12 cabs (inside top); two Sunn W 1x18 reflex bins (inside bottom), with 18″ Vega speakers; two Sunn 1x18 cabinets (silver-grille), with 18″ Vega speakers (outside bottom). Imagine turning up to a pub with all that! -
I've always thought that to be an 'odd' combination, given the most common spacing being 45 - 65 - 85 - 105. Seen a few sets that are as 'standard' but with a 110 instead of the 105 but Billy S goes for a lighter A but then a heavier E. What are they like to play?
IIRC, Billy's logic was the 110 was good because he dropped to D so it kept the tension, the lighter G was to help even the tension across the set. He never mentioned why the A was lighter though. They're pretty nice to be honest, the light G was great for bends and tapping. But I don't do much of that these days. So 50 - 110 rounds or flats are on 5 of 6 basses.
-
Also not on the poll are Billy Sheehan sig 43 - 65 - 80 - 110.
Someone died just 'round the corner as a result of (multiple) wasp stings... Apparently, the nest got disturbed, and that was that
One of my mates, from way back, was allergic to wasp and bee stings. He found out when he got stung on his throat and it instantly swelled up and closed his windpipe down. Within about 3 mins he was struggling for breath. Fortunately he was just able to breathe enough to get to the hospital.
Other than the above mentioned headstock bashing during gigs I would question why most people would need to tune up during a gig.
My gutarist has a custom Gibson SG, with a really thin neck profile, that thing needs tuning every few minutes as it's sensitive to ambient temp changes. Forunately he doesn't use it much these days and only has it as back up for gigs.

Flea using his flea bass in the new RHCP video
Try it through a UPS if you can borrow one. Have you tried it on a different power socket/different room? I`m presuming the gig was louder than the rehearsal vol but you used 2 cabs... Are you absolutely sure it`s not the cab with a loose cable?
Not tried it through a different socket, but the way the room seems to be wired I doubt it would make a difference. The gig was louder and the cab in the rehearsal room worked fine with a MarkBass head and, when the Ampeg buggers up, a Peavey MkIII.
Does it only happen in the rehearsal space? Could it be a mains power issue? I've heard, but have never experienced, that these types of amps are a lot more sensitive to fluctuating power supply issues.
Interesting you say that, my guitarist was saying last night he used to have an amp that would drop in volume if he played power cords. In the same room we use. Is there any solution to that?

Next week I'll take my 2 8ohm cabs. If there's still a problem then it's going back and I'm not getting another. I got it through Digital Village. They said they'd get, the one I returned, sent back to Ampeg.
If the amp is cutting out with a thermal trip, and this is the second amp you’ve had with this problem, then I'd suspect user error! Have you restricted the airflow in any way? Put the amp in a case or bag?
I'm only guessing it's the thermal trip, but it's only a drop out for a second or so. I'd have thought heat issues would take longer to correct. Nope, the amp is just sat there, no bag/rack or any other obstruction. The fan works fine.

No idea whether is good or bad, but when I bought my Fender P last year it came with 4 2" square gel bags in the soft case with the bass.
Plus from what I've read, your amp will run hotter as well.
That might explain my problem with my PF-500 then... So, I recently got an Ampeg PF-500 and during a band rehearsal it started to cut out. So I sent it back and get a replacement. The first test the second amp got was a gig and I performed marvellously! It also worked fine last week at a song writing session (no drummer) Then last night we had a full band rehearsal and again the amp started to cut out. So I got to thinking: In the rehearsal room I use a Peavey 410txf (4 ohm) cab. It's only rated to 350W so I make sure the volume is kept down. During the gig I was using 2 8ohm cabs. The amp has a thermal trip that will mute the output if it gets too hot. Last week the drummer was unavailable so we used the time to write a couple of new songs, so the volume was much lower. Last night, with the drummer there, the 3 times the sound dropped were when I started playing harder and the over all volume was higher. So my question is: Can running a single 4 ohm cab cause the amp to overheat and trip the thermal protection?, or does the amp have a problem developing? Thanks.
TBF a lot of this will be down to a local independant not being able to buy bulk.
Yeah, I guess that's the biggest factor.
Realistically, local shops will never compete for price with online stores for strings. But that's no excuse for poor customer service - they should realise that were they can compete is on quality of service, and local goodwill.
and this is where they fail.
I guess strings are one of the very few regular sellers, so you have to make your money somewhere. Shops being retail establishments and all, charging the price recommended would also seem fair. Thing is, internet shops are a pain too, all about the second hand market. No income tax, no guarantee...
If the shop was large and in a prime location I could understand they might have large overheads, but it's a little shop in a street deviod of anything but kebab shops. If they charged less they'd get more people buying from them. Other shops seem to manage it. I know I'll not spend any money in there again.
