1. The only shop in Newport seems to think that charging the maximum they can for products is the way to keep people buying local. I had buy a set of strings, fogot to order from stringbusters, so I popped into the shop. Online a set of nickel D'addario mediums is £14.30, in the shop £24.99 (you can get a twin pack online for £22 FFS!!). They charge the RRP for instruments too.
2. I'd consider all my basses to be "proper" basses (thought some might disagree about one of them) and the costs are all different: JV Squire P - free Aria SB Elite - I paid £80 for an ex demo model Dean Edge 4 - £200 new Warwick Corvette Proline - £150 used EBMM - £680 used Fender Steve Harris P - £820 new (all of them have been gigged) so as others have said the poll is pretty meaningless.
3. If you were into your hi-fi and want to listen to music in the best quality possible, forget mp3s. Just stick to CD. iTunes stuff is 256kbps and even on a dodgy old jvc mini system I can easily hear compression artefacts.
4. The first cheapish 5 string I remember seeing was an Aria Pro II Magna series near the end of the 80s. My mate had one, it was horrible.
5.
Drums 2 Basses 3 Gtrs (one of whom is lead vocs) Keyboards Vocs
2 bassists AND 3 guitarists?!? Blimey! When you've mentioned 2 bassists before I was thinking either 2 bassists and one guitarist, Ned's Atomic Dustbin style or 2 bassists and no guitarist, a la Cop Shoot Cop!
6. I much prefer 4 piece (vocals, bass, guitar and drums).
7. Me personally? It wouldn't bother me at all and I wouldn't try to get the price reduced if the seller is up front about damage.
8.
That looks interesting, do you use these? Is this like a traditional strap lok which fixes through the guitar strap? Thanks
Looks like it's for Schaller locks.
9. The DiMarzio locking strap could be worth a look as you can use the orginal screws.
10.
Cheers, thanks for the info I can't figure out how to attach these to a strap, do they just fit through the existing hole in the strap? Many thanks Terry
Depends on the strap. I had a Mono strap that had really tough leather ends. I had to widen the holes with a file to get the lock through. Most of my basses have soft leather straps and the locks just push through, with a bit of force.
11. Never owned a Ric but, I've used Schaller, Dunlops and the DiMarzio locking strap (where you screw a bit of the strap to the body, rather than having a strap button). For me the Dunlop straplocks are the best ones. I've had Schaller straplocks wear through the strap button part before as it's just metal on metal. The Dunlops have little ball bearings to ease friction.

I'd stick a mirrored scratchplate on, then it'd be the love child of my 2 main basses (stingray and steve harris P)! Oh noes!! more Stingray GAS!!
13.
after buying a cheapo kinsman one and the inside just fell appart after 2 weeks.....

I feel your pain! I'm still having problems with mine aswell.
The cloth, with pedals still attached, came out of mine last week when I tried to remove one pedal.
14. Are you using a Mac or a windows based machine?
15. I use a DHA VT2 with my PF-500. With the eq flat there's barely any colouration of the sound. One channel with the gain on about 50% and the other with gain and overdrive on full. It sounded pretty good through the mix of cabs last night. Looking forward to when I can be arsed to take my 4x8" and 1x15" cabs to rehearsals to hear it through nice cabs.
16.
I have been offered one of these in a trade, I'm sorely tempted.
Do it!
17. Finally got a chance to take a couple of quick photos of my recent acquisition (previously Mylkinut's):
18. First gig in a couple of months last night, we were the opening band of 4. First time I got to try my replacement Ampeg PF-500 at any kind of volume was at soundcheck. Going through a GK 4x10 and a Hartke 1x15 from the other bands. During the set I couldn't quite get it out of my head that the amp might pack in, and I fluffed one or two notes as I was thinking about the amp. But it was a good gig, the drummer managed to maintain a reasonable speed, we all managed to remember the alterations to some of the songs we made on Tuesday and best of all I got compliments on both the Stingray and the sound.
19.
I would be happy to start an excell spreadsheet if it can be hosted somewhere?
Is it worth giving Google Documents a go?
20. It lasted and sounded great, mix of headlining bands cabs. Hartke 1 x 15 transported and a GK GLX 4 x 10.
