1.
+1, I can't see the point in spending upward of £3000 on something so close to stock? Or at least, I'd get UK luthier to make something at the same price that would no doubt be a whole lot better.
Another +1. I had a quote of £1400 from Shuker to build a bass very similar to the on the OP wants (The differences were Chrome hardware, inc a Badass bridge, and a chrome pickguard). With the quality that Jon puts out I'd love to know what he could do for the price of a FCS bass.
2. I got hold of a Warwick ridiculously cheap. It was a bit battered so I defretted it. Really enjoyed playing on it, it's currently in bits awaiting for the combination of money and time to happen. Then I'll upgrade some parts and rebuild it. In the mean time I have an EUB.
3. I do the odd bit of backing shouting, but that's about it.
Damn those talented people for whom it's easy!
I agree! I'm currently listening to NoMeansNo, Rob Wight is on talanted sod and damn him!
4. My Squier JV P used to be tuned BEAD, before I got a 5 string. I didn't have to adjust anything. Played and sounded fine.
5.
Could be interested if you decide to sell.
Sorry mate, I sold it about a month ago and bought a DHA VT2.
6. Both me and my guitarist use the PolyTune. I think they're brilliant pedals. They're true bypass too.
7. Oh dear god I like it!! But not for that much money...
8.
I actually had to do this cos of back problems, at the ripe old age of 19...
If I'm at home noodling then the pedals are on the table. If I'm gigging or practicing then I don't tend to adjust anything... Not due to back problems, but every joint and muscle problems.
9.
Shep, although you don't want a keyboard, what about putting some of the ones you want to tweak live on a pedalboard that can go on a table? That way you could have a proper two-tier thing - one you operate with your feet with TB loops or controller to control those on the table top board, and then the table top one allows you to fiddle with settings as you go.
I've seen more and more bands doing this. Most of the time I assumed it was because the band member were old and didn't like to bend down all the time.
10. I love the pink paisley one... Actually I love both of them!
11. Got my DHA VT2 today, used it this evening! It's fantastic, so much nice than the Sansamp BDDI it's replaced! Shame it's too tall to fit in the pedal case really. My board is now Tuner, chorus and the VT2
12. Had a last minute gig a couple of weeks ago, us and 2 other bands filling in because the 3 bands who were meant to play cancelled 2 days before. We're told the headline band were bringing backline for everyone to use. Great I though, just bass, cables and pedalboard then. Get to venue and talking to the owner I've known for years and she tells me we're headlining!! The opening band, a 15 year old girl, 16 year old lad and a drummer they've never met before, don't have a bass player and the other band, group of 20 something emo kids, say they haven't brought a bass amp. Bassist from emo band calls me a twat to his band mates then knocks my bass (still in gig bag) over and laughs. And they all mutter that they should be headlining... My band decide that the emo kids can headline and suddenly a bass amp, of sorts, appears. Any hoo, I decided to DI from my Sansamp and put my faith in the monitors to do what they're meant to do. 5 mins before the bands start the "crowd" consists of the bands and the emo kids girlfriends. The opening band were great! Mix of acoustic guitar, electric "textural" guitar and a drummer winging it! We go on an had a good practice, first gig with new drummer. DI'ing worked perfectly!! The emo kids go on and immediately slag off us and the opening band for not sticking around to watch, despite the fact we're all still stood there... They're stuff was just bland dropped-D chugging single finger rhythm snorefest.
13. That is one nice looking bass!! Fantastic job!!
14. I wouldn't care what bass they played. If they played well and brought something to the band who cares if it's a Daisy Rock or a Tom Araya ESP...
15.
Woh, that's really cool - I've seen a lot of people working on using Tablet PCs with hardware synths and workstations. The idea is brilliant and has already started me thinking about integrating a tablet in to my studio / bass rig somehow. I'm really pleased to see mainstream manufacturers catching on to the possibilities that tablets and other mobile devices can afford us as musicians. It's really not doing my GASsing any good though, as I am trying to decide if I should have an iPad2 or an Android / Windows equivalent! Oh boy-o-boy!
I've always meant to try this sort of thing out.
16. That's bloody impressive!!
17. Enough strings for 15 proper basses!
18.
Epic.
Fantastic! More Pekko Käppi:
19. Some Pekko Käppi (Finnish Rune-singer). Looking forward to see him at this year's Supersonic Fest!!
