Pair of pliers....£3 Good quality hacksaw...£7 Knowing that you've just ruined your instrument...priceless. Go on, be a man, give DIY a go
It's pretty easy. I defretted a Warwick in a couple of days. I took my time and it took about an hour to remove the frets. Rest of the time was sanding, cleaning filling, sanding and cleaning again.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdQtYfURhTM I absolutely love Muzz Skilling's tone on all the early Living Color stuff! Hard to pick a favourite but I love his tone in this juicy slap groove. Even if the song is sounding a little dated now, the guys sound like they're playing out of their skin... phenomenal playing. Takes me back...
I remember first coming across Living Color when they supported Anthrax. They very nearly blew Anthrax off the stage! As you say, they sound awfully dated these days.

I love Billy Sheehan's sound, especially with Niacin, but I wouldn't really want to replicate it. I used to want to, but not these days.

Who made me play bass? Steve Harris, John Entwistle and Cliff Burton were the first guys. Les Claypool and Billy Sheehan made me continue. Justin Chancellor made me realise a plectrum isn't entirely evil...

I like it.

Whilst excessively drunk I threw a Dean bass, I'd had for a few hours, off the stage at the end of a gig. Didn't know until the next rehearsal. Only damage was some cracked finish around the controls.

I've had one on my Aria SB-Elite since 1988. The level wore out in the late 90s and Hipshot sent me a replacement lever for free. They're incredibly useful. I'm planning to get another to put on my Dean. I've never really noticed a change in tension, but I do use a 110 E.
I used to own a Deep Impact, long time ago, and sold it for £50. Which was really silly! I bought last week an EHX Bass Micro Synth after seeing some cool stuff on YouTube. For the first few days I was concerned it was faulty. farty noises, huge decay on the notes... but I'm starting to understand they are just very complex and sensitive units. I am now getting some seriously awesome sounds out of it. If this is the starting point for what's to come from this unit... then it f'ing rocks!!!
How do you rate the ehx against the Deep Impact? I have a Deep Impact and I've had thoughts of changing it for another synth...

On a similar idea I had a 8x4 sheet of 18mm MDF cut down for shelves today. The offcuts are going to be used to make hangers for my basses.

I apologise most emphatically!! I try to stay out of the build threads. Beautiful bass though.
Well, the DS-1 is F**ked. balls to it. Next.
I killed my DS-1 by modding it. Haven't gotten around to figuring out why.

That bass is stunning!! Any chance of a few more shots of it?
-
Also on its way! HK unknown 7 string fretless!
Only problem for me is that is 35 inch scale Rob.
Looks nice for the price. What's wrong with 35" scale? -
A Blythe!!

Is there a chance the original bassist wants back in?

Too much stuff!!
I think I missed them... D&L did some fine stuff at The Cooler on Park Street too. They had Mono playing a year or so back.
Check TPSQ out. They're good. I've been to the Cooler for a few D&L shows. Boris, Om and something I can't remember now...

I thought The Pirate Ship Quintet were pretty fine too. I really need to go to more Denim and Leather's gigs...
In a nutshell it's (usually) instrumental, slightly epic, sort of film-scoreish music. It's characterised by long band names (usuallywrittenlikethis) and song titles that are only surpassed in length by the length of the song itself (at least 6:30 for ant self respecting post-rock band). Done correctly, the music can induce a trance like state in the listener. It's not unusual to see the entire crowd at an Explosions in the sky gig swaying back and forth in unison.
Nice description. Did you see Red Sparowes at The Croft last time they played?
That..right there.. is EXACTLY what this thread was meant to be about Z x
I have to say. This is one of those bass lines I'd love to be able to play. I'm super impressed and a touch jealous. Well done! (I hope this doesn't read as being patronising)

I'm a big fan of Red Sparowes. For me the second album, Every Red Heart Shines Toward the Red Sun, is much better than the first. "The Great Leap Forward Poured Down Upon Us One Day Like a Mighty Storm, Suddenly and Furiously Blinding Our Senses." and "We Stood Transfixed in Blank Devotion as Our Leader Spoke to Us, Looking Down On Our Mute Faces With a Great, Raging, and Unseeing Eye" are particularly good. They're pretty awesome live too.
Christ!! That's a lot of bass for £150!
Yeah. There was a longish list of issues though: Buggered frets, hence defretting electrics were screwed heads came off 2 of the screws for the machineheads chunks knocked out the edge of the fretboard so I wasn't too worried about defretting it myself.
How much did you pay if you don't mind? I love battered old Warwicks! Missed a shabby old Fortress on eBay a couple of years ago for a ridiculous price
I paid £150 for it. Here are some low quality photos after de-fretting. I still need to get some flats and knobs for it. New pickups and electronics will follow in the next few months.
