After the Fretless Bass zoom thing last night I thought I'd give some Tony Franklin a listen, the guy seems pretty cool. I'm not sure you could get much more 80s sounding than this album. So not my thing, but the bass is great!

Sorry, I should have pointed out that it's not mine, unfortunately. My mate modified one in the early 90s. Sounded great until he tried something else and melted something important. Much like he did to my Boss RPS-10 -
It was good to know they all struggled with intonation for a while. It was also pretty interesting that nearly all used roundwounds on at least one fretless... Bakithi Kumalo was definitely the most interesting one to listen to.

You going to circuit bend it? -

Love the Ataxia albums. Frusciante’s solo/colab stuff is massively better than RHCP…

The green is way nicer than the blue! I think you got the better one.

Some Dirty Three:

Nope. I was still very much a metaller at the time. I used to get some evil looks due to my Anthrax or Suicidal Tendencies tees...

Same for me. I loved Nephs gigs.

Woke up in a great mood today. The sun was shining and I'd had a lovely hour's walk with the dog and my youngest daughter. So I thought I'd set about my fretless with a drill and a Dremel. Replaced the EMG PAX pickup that was in there with a Wilkinson PJ set, stacked V/T V/T pots and a phase switch on the bridge pickup. Used a 10mm bit to remove most of the wood, then the Dremel with a routing bit. No template, just some markings on some tape. Took my time and stayed calm. I had a moment of panic when both V/T controls acted as masters, I'd forgotten the two resistors to isolate the controls . Added those and all is good. It sounds much bigger than with the EMG, even just this P on its own, and it now has those mids that a fretless really needs...

In '85 I was 12/13 years old. I'd have bought: Powerslave - Iron Maiden Ride The Lightning - Metallica Killing Is My Business - Megadeth Hounds of Love - Kate Bush Spreading the Disease - Anthrax My sister would have bought: Head on the Door - The Cure Meat Is Murder - The Smiths First and Last and Always - The Sisters of Mercy Psychocandy - The Jesus and Mary Chain Phantasmagoria - The Damned And I bought, for my sister: Rum, Sodomy & the Lash - The Pogues

This came from my recently acquired fretless bass. I'm prefer passive stuff these, fewer batteries to deal with 😁. According to the label on the bottom these are the PAX version of EMG's P range. It comes with all the solderless wiring stuff, new screws (as the old ones were totally shot) and some nice domed metal knobs. I've attached a pdf of the instructions and below the photo is EMG's own blurb about the pickup. I'm asking £50 + P&P. "The PAX pickup is similar to our EMG PA bass pickup, but with the addition of the X Series preamp. The X preamp offers greater dynamic control and touch sensitivity, bridging the gap between passive and active tone and feel. Because the PAX utilizes Alnico V magnets coupled with short, squat coils, the tone is open and rich, with a vintage character. For those who seek an active P bass pickup with a more vintage tone and feel, the PAX is an excellent choice. Complete with EMG's solderless wiring control kit, this pickup is a breeze to install on your own." p_p5_p6x__b245_0230-0130rd.pdf

Moog sound studio ...Do I really need it

I've got a Mother 32 so the DFAM/Subharmonicon bundle is a pretty good deal and very tempting. Just need to clear my CC balance. Not sure it's worth it for you as you have the DFAM. You can just make your own dice connections chart. -
Not one of these?:
