1.
Godflesh - now there's a blast from the past.....
New album comes out next week
2.
I discovered that last night! After diving in blind and getting nowhere, I sat and read the manual. (its a big manual) Once I got my head around the 80's technology, and my 80's nostalgia had dissipated, I managed to have some fun creating a few simple Sisters of Mercy drum loops. It's quite good fun and I think it will be useful..... time will tell. Anyway - a new toy is a new toy!
The SR-16 is a great drum machine, well worth persevering with. I once drew out a grid to help me visualise the drum partterns. Once you've mastered SoM, set up a new kit of detuned drums and program in some mid era Godflesh!
3.
Well lady luck came knocking this morning, and I have an Alesis SR16 on its way to me courtesy of a work colleague who has had it knocking around for years and never used it. Free to a good home he said, so bargain. I wonder if it will do the job.
Keep the manual handy. The SR-16 isn't the most intuitive drum machine to use.
4.
I remember that band U2. They did TRY and make people like their offerings for free. But thankfully, there was a way around it for Apple users. https://www.iphoneli...D-iphone-itunes
They also gave away an album in the 80s with certain walkmans
5. Only tolerable Christmas songs are Julie Christmas songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eXbW3l7gzM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wz-4xELUpMs
6. Make sure there's no glue left from the old nut on the end of the fretboard and the neck. It's usually hard to see as it tends to be clear or slightly wood coloured. And to sort the chip, a dab or two of black nail varnish would probably to the trick. Unless you have the chip, then just glue it back.
7. This is some of my favourite Sheehan stuff:
8. No love for this fantastic fretless? Please help me fund a new mixer
9. I have decided to sell my Portamento, mainly due to it not being used so much these days. Here's some photos and Ibanez blurb about the bass: The MK1 pickups are split coil designs that provides a very wide frequency range and enhanced definition for maximum accuracy. The Neck and Bridge pickups have equal response, like traditional single coils, but without the hum and noise. The EQ section incorporates the controls of the Bartolini pickups with the AeroSilk Piezo system. Controls include a Master volume, balance and bass & treble controls for the Bartolini MK-1 pickups and a Master volume and a tone control for the Piezo system. The SR Portamento features an extended 30-fret Rosewood fretboard for playing in upper registers usually only accessible on an upright. The Custom bridge is created specifically for the optimum performance of the AeroSilk Piezo pickup system. Unique plastic saddles were designed to work in concert with the piezo pickups and enhance the acoustic "stand-up" quality of the sound. On the back of the SR Portamento are recessed controls assigned to each individual string to control the volume of the Ibanez-exclusive AeroSilk Piezo pickup. Perfect string balance and response can be achieved by adjusting the volume to accommodate different string gauges. The neck has lost it's satin finish somewhat, it was like this when I got it, but it makes no difference to the playability of the bass. It has a acquired a couple of dings in the top edge of the body: It will come in an old gig bag. Beware, it's old. I'm based in south Wales if anyone wants to try and/or collect. I'm happy to deliver within 60 miles of Pontypool. I'm in London on the 23rd November so a day time hand over is possible (zones 1-3). Buyer will have to arrange any couriers, I'm afraid. I have a guitar box and a large Thomann shipping box for this to go in if necessary. (Shipping info: carton is 138x18x60 cm and total weight is 8kgs)
10. What's your definition of stupid money? I was about to suggest the same as miles'tone.
11.
It's a pity that they couldn't be so accommodating for all their Superfly users in the past :-((
Ashdown seem to have become quite good at customer service over the last few years. I emailed them several years ago to enquire about purchasing a new battery cover for a compressor pedal. I got back a very short email back pretty much saying "Not a chance".
12. My Ibanez Portamento: and my Warwick Corvette (long suffering project bass): Defretted and super glue coating on the board. Only recently assembled as Barefaced had the pickups and preamp for a while. I need to get new strings on it as these are totally dead but initial signs are it works very nicely. I need to sand back and redo the superglue as my technique for applying it got much better over the 7 coats of glue. But if it sounds as good as I think it might, then the Portamento will be going.
13. Are the pickups Dimarzio? That's the only reason I can think that this has gone over the 99p starting price.
14. Finally remembered to weight my heaviest basses: Warwick corvette - 14.1lbs Aria Pro II SB Elite - 14lbs Fender Steve Harris - 13.9lbs Harley Benton PJ 5 String - 13.2lbs
15. I've got 3 4 Strings that are pretty heavy. Warwick Corvette Fender Steve Harris Aria Pro II SB Elite. I'll have to weigh them when I get home.
16.
Damnation Festival in November, Wolves In The Throne Room in December
ooh, they're playing Bristol. The bits off the new album with Anna Von Hausswolff are fantastic.
17. Coming up in the next few months are: Acid Mothers Temple Faust Wire Emma Ruth Rundle
18.
I saw Yob on the Clearing The Path To Ascend tour and the bassist was playing a Ric - it was probably the best bass tone I've heard live. Though I think he may have switched to EGC now.
yeah, last time I saw them he had a gorgeous EGC... Back to Ric 5s, I've only ever seen one guy play them. 19. I have a Roland R-8 and an Alesis SR-16. I use stuff in Logic more than either of the two hardware drum machines. For the additional cost Logic offers so much more...
20. Blocks, Crowns are too Gibsony. Would make me worry about the headstock falling off...
