1.
Think I will have to go back at some point and do the same. Did you use a low or medium viscosity glue? I just used a tube of bostik from Rymans which might have been my mistake.
I had some stuff, from the news agents around the corner, not Bostik but another brand. I tested it on a scrap of prepared wood. It was pretty low viscosity... I drew a line across the board with the glue then spread it by dragging the edge of some heavy weight paper down the length of the board. My 3g tube did about 5-6 coats.
2.
Looks good already. I've just "finished" a defret of an old maple Hondo II P neck using superglue and veneer but got some white patches. Also found horrible to work with. That said it's a lovely smooth finish but I've kinda given up for now
I did get some white blotches, I thought some moisture may have got under a coat of superglue. I just sanded it back and started again. There are some small white spots which are where glue dust got stuck in divots. But as a first attempt I'm pretty pleased already. I thought it was pretty easy to work with tbh.
3. So, here's my battered Corvette Proline. For those that haven't seen this before I got this bass about 8 or 9 years ago for about £150, from a friend. It used to belong to a, now, pro player in a metal band. And it got battered by him. Chips and gouges in the neck and fretboard edge, there were no electronics when I got it. The pickups were wired straight to the output, and the body is cracked. So over the years I've used it as a project/testbed bass. It's been defretted (with wood filler)... refretted and now defretted again (with wendge veneer). It's been passive, had a MEC 3 band preamp and now all the gubbins is at Barefaced for a bit. So I took the opportunity to try a superglue coating on the board. It's not perfect, yet. But I've run out of time for the time being. But once I get the electronics back I shall do a few more glue coats (it's had 8 so far) and polish it up as best as I can. So for now, this is what it looks like. I forgot to take photos of the process...
4. A few random knocks and you can pretend the 'D' marker is also a bit of mojo...
5. When I was looking towards the end of last year I was surprised by the lack of new unlined fretlesses. You could get a £200 Stagg and then there was nothing until you got to £1500 or so, apart from the Ibanez Portamento.
6. Seeing these always makes me sad mine went missing when the music shop servicing it went under...
7. I got my Aria SB Elite in 1989 and I still have it and play it frequently. So 28 years and counting... Just noticed I'm playing it in my avatar...
8. Chris doesn't look at all himself in the pro photos from the gig. So sad that he thought he only had one way out.
9.
Guys, you're forgetting Mark Lanegan from Screaming Trees - to me, the most underrated band/vocalista from the Seattle scene
Totally!!
10.
Cant get my head around why someone so successful and talented, who obviously has a loving family would take their own life at 52. Its very sad, and confusing.
That's mental illness for you, there's no logic.
11. Mark Arm is alive and well...
12. Alex in Ned's Atomic Dustbin used a capo quite a lot.
13.
RIP this is shocking I had heard that Audioslave were playing together again and were going to do some new recordings Very sad news
New Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog have all been mentioned over the last couple of months.
14.
So the control chamber cover will also need carving...
Nice to see you're making things easy for yourself...
15.
Was that the gig where both Ampegs failed and he gave the bass away to a friend in the audience?
He gave it to Ross Haflin IIRC
16. I'm totally shocked. Massive Soundgarden fan!
17. Finally got around to starting one of the several projects I've had lying around for a while. This one has only been sat here for a year. Some of the others are about 10 years old... It's a Gristleiser it's a version of one of these:
18. Make sure the volume is up on your phone too. It took me longer than it should have to work out that bit...
19. I'm just watching the Arpanoid video. That looks like an awesome pedal. I'm looking forward to one of your demo videos... EDIT: and the Transmisser! I now have expensive pedal GAS. Thanks!
20. Or does the OP mean a bass version of something like this:
21.
I have been gas'ing for a Jazzmaster recently...mainly due to Chris Stapleton...but this thread's not helping either
I'm very far from the greatest guitarist in the world, but these Squier Deluxes are just so bloody easy to play.
22.
Oxbow - Thin Black Duke. Worth the wait. I'd say.
I need to get this. I can't wait to see them live next month... EDIT: ah, it's on iTunes... After I listen to the new At The Drive-In I shall listen to it...
23. I do this with a Boss LS-2 Send A straight back to Return A, no FX Send B through FX and back to Return B Both loops running and mixed accordingly on the pedal.
24.
but ....would you avoid or even cancel a gig in these "freezing" conditions?
to put it simply. Nope.
25. I was in London yesterday and popped to Guitar Guitar. After a quick go on the Vintage Modified Squiers and the J Mascis one, I walked out with this. I couldn't tell the difference between this and the Mascis model. Same neck, pickups and bridge/trem. £150 cheaper too.
