1. Before ordering the Gotoh, just check out the Fender High Mass bridge. It's what Fender turned the Bad Ass II into. You can pick up a new one for about £30 from places.
2. He's the reason I got a bass. Learned to play loads of Maiden when I was younger, forgotten it all now though... I should re learn them as there's very few other bands with such fun bass lines...
3. I think this is up there with greatest cover versions:
4. If people need them then it's fine to use them, sod what anyone thinks.
5.
I'm not a gospel fan but I really like the bass playing in that clip. I like that Jamerson style where there is minimal repetition. Although my music taste leans mainly towards funk, instrumental hip hop and trip hop my #1 album for consistently great basslines is No Rest For The Wicked by New Model Army with Stuart Morrow. It's all there, the intricate lines, the superb tone etc . Here' s a clip of the original line-up at the Marquee in 1985. One of the most underrated/overlooked bands of all time.
Stuart and Moose are both MASSIVELY underrated bassists.
6.
As an aside, in 1997 I bought a brand new active USA Jazz. It was £697. The current range at that level is the Elite, which now seems to be around £1900. That is some increase, even for nearly 20 years.
Allowing for inflation £697 is the equivalent of £1144 in 2015, according to the Bank of England calculator. Still a large increase mind...
7. I plan to make one some time next year... The surface mounted bit worries me slightly though...
8. I've learned that playing fretless bass is fantastic fun. So much so that I've barely touched a fretted bass since the beginning of October.
9. Sun Kil Moon/Jesu's Fragile mentions Chris Squire a fair amount:
10.
Not a fan of V's - but I love that! Brill colour/finish too, looks like it's made of evil!
Just what I was thinking! Congrats Fisheth
11. My top 3 are: You Want It Darker - Leonard Cohen Skeleton Tree - Nick Cave Mariner - Cult of Luna/Julie Christmas
12. Cult of Luna/Julie Christmas is also in my albums of the year list. Definitely in the top 5, probably top 3. I'm soooooo jealous you saw them!
13. No problem. If you want anything else give me a shout. I have the books for Kill Em All, Ride the Lightning, Puppets, Justice... and the Black album Plus the guitar books for Lightning and Puppets as some of the bass bits are, incorrectly, transcribed as guitar parts.
14. Here you go! It's a pdf file so you'll need to change the file extension...
15. Have a look at D'addario's balanced tension set. Really nice to play. I used to use 55 - 110, but have switched over to the BTs Wound .050, .067, .090, .120
16.
'I don't need these'
WTF has that got to do with things????
17. I've got the Master of Puppets bass tab book. Not sure of it's accuracy, but I'll scan it later this evening for you if you want.
18.
Skindred's bassist uses Laney Nexus gear I believe, he absolutely loves it and has a monster tone
Yeah, he's moved from the Nexus Tube to the SL heads. I keep meaning to ask him if it was his choice to change... My Laney usage was restricted to a crappy Linebacker 30 practice amp back in the late 80s. I dreamed of having a DP150...
19.
Gosh, a lot of love for a car with a Mondeo engine.
Bit behind the times aren't you? "Engine : Yamaha Judd V8 4439cc twin turbo" and to me it looks much better than the equivilent priced Ferrari...
20. I'd much rather have Noble than a Ferrari, unless it was a Ferrari 250 GTO of course.
21. Seller has a few other nice items...
22. I've borrowed a SR400FLBK that's PJ and passive. Not that you could tell as it has a massive output.
23.
There is a song Called Baby Got Back. Its a bit of a tongue in cheek MTV rap type song from days gone by. The opening lines are "I like big butts and I cannot lie" Your thread title brought to mind the lyrics to that song. It's not on youtube though, he must be one of those people that doesn't like his songs on there. Anyway, hope that clears it up!
It was the first thing I thought too.
