Thanks guys - first time I've done this sort of thing! Lake Placid Blue does look kinda right. Just need to figure out how to get clear paint and blue metal flake on!
Years ago I was experimenting doing a purple metal flake bass. Used Ford Fiesta purple as a base coat and got some purple metal flake paint from Specialist Paints and attempted to paint the metal flake on. But it reacted with the base coat and bloomed. If I were to try again I'd get loose flake and spray a clear coat on and dust the metal flake onto the tacky clear coat. Once that was dry I'd try and build up layers of clear coat to smooth it all out. Someone did a stringray copy in that method I think. It's somewhere in the build thread. EDIT: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/255440-finally-finished-stingray-refinish/
It looks like a serious metal flake on Harry's Fender replica. I don't think you're going to find anything similar in an aerosol in Halfords IMHO
Definitely not.

To me my blue sparkle one looks like a base coat of lake placid blue with a clear coat with blue metal flake in. It's quite large flake too.
Thanks chaps, and if I wanted to have a tuner available to both, presumably just put that in front of the LS2?
LS-2 Out -> Tuner in
Hot Damn! If that was a P, I'd be all over it ...
How about a PJ 5 string?
Bargain. I'd buy it, give it a wipe and flip it. Like a proper gyppo.
I was tempted, but I know I'd only get 2/3 of the way through the process... -
Good job it's the wrong pickup configuration for me
I'm sure you could adapt. The photos are way too blue as its a surf green in real life...

Based on this thread I went and got a HyperGravity today. I was aiming to get the SpectraComp, but they'd sold out. I thought it was worth the extra £16 for 3 more knobs and a switch... After 3 hours I've only just scratched the surface of the Toneprint Editor, but already I'm getting great results. I have a good feeling that things will get better when I figure out what the hell I'm doing.

I'm kind of glad I wasn't in the shop for very long mind. The sycamore faced Wal was bloody gorgeous and this sparkly Roscoe was calling me, despite my not really needing, or even wanting, a 5 string: The photo really does not do it justice.

Don't get me wrong, I do like the place. But it seems I can never time my needs with the right level of customer service. The last few times I've been in there I've known exactly what I wanted, just wanted to go in, buy it and leave again with no chatting/opinions. Had today been that kind of time I'd have been delighted. But today I was actually hoping to draw on Mark's knowledge, experience and opinions.

Popped to Bass Direct today. I wanted to get a TC Electronic HyperGravity pedal and some flatwound strings. But I wanted to see what Mark could recommend string wise. He wasn't there. Instead I wander into the shop and was in there a couple of minutes before someone shouted from the office. Young lad walked out "What do you want today?" me: "Erm, a TC Electronic HyperGravity please" Him: "right..." *shouts to other kid in the office "OI! Draw up an invoice for a HyperGravity!" Other: "We aint got none!" Him: "Yes we have, just do it!" At this point I guess talking about strings would be pointless. So I pay and leave.

There's a white Aria Pro II Laser Heritage in Cash Generators in Coventry city centre for £80. if I hadn't just bought a bass I'd have snapped it up. Looked in pretty good condition -
Nice colour, works well with the black hardware. Not so sure about the tort plate though...

A couple of weeks ago I borrowed a mate's SR400FL and instantly knew I needed an unlined fretless. After looking about I noticed unlined fretless basses were either mega cheap basic basses, expensive Fender clones or mega expensive fancy basses. Until I stumbled upon the SRF700; Great price, good lucks and a piezo bridge! Then one showed up in the Marketplace, at a great price. After a couple of days thinking about it and a couple of PMs exchanged it was on it's way to me. It really is a lovely looking bass: satin finished, 30 "fret" board and it's light! The controls are (left to right, top to bottom): Piezo Vol, Bridge Vol, Neck Vol Piezo tone, treble boost/cut, bass boost/cut The piezo bridge is fantastic. It gives a really nice upright bassy tone. Apart from a few minutes initially trying the bass the piezo output is the only one I've been using... The only, very minor, thing I'm not sure about is the side markers. The SR400FL I borrowed only has dots, this bass has fret markers so the dots of out of position for a fretless. I've already got used to playing on the dots, so I need to recalibrate a bit. The back has a bit of gubbins going on, the 4 holes are for preset pots for each string's piezo's output. I actually think that I'm now GAS free, as far as basses are concerned... not counting the GAS for the unobtainable Wal, obviously.

Bought a bass from Martyn on Monday morning. He supplied me with a tracking number by the evening. Today arrived a superbly packaged bass. He's an absolute pleasure to deal with. Many many thanks Martyn!!

I've heard people saying the remasters sound quite harsh and trebly. I agree about TotD, it seems the whole album got remixed just so they could push Vedder's vocals in Hunger Strike higher in the mix. Ride The Lightning is one of my favourite albums and the original pressing sounds bloody good to me.
I would imagine though that if you already have the 2008 remaster, you won't hear a massive improvement.
That's what I was thinking. I don't have any remasters, just the originals. I've heard negative things about the most recent remasters too...
-
but I'd rather have them doing it than nothing at all, plus they have a pretty strong message behind it all too.
That part is very true.
Rage were revolutionary but Prophets of Rage are awful.
Yeah, Sum of it's parts adding up to a whole lot less...
I think that there will be a remastered (and hopefully remixed) version of Justice in the not too distant future. The remastered Ride the Lightning album is pretty damn good. You get far more of Cliff in the mix.
How does the 2008 remaster compare the the most recent one for RtL?

Just been listening to the band's older songs. We haven't had a practice for a couple of months. Getting together this evening for a quick blast through the old stuff before getting back to writing new ones...
