1.
Clint Mansell ! I'd love to see that. His work with the Kronos quartet is great.
I saw him at the Union Chapel with the Sonus Quartet a few years back, only a couple of hundred people there. Now he's selling out massive places. I love his film scores and I'm a huge Pop Will Eat Itself fan!
2. I've only ever had 2 amps fail. Both were new ones. Granted they were both Ampeg PF-500 and I got a full refund in the end.
3. This month I have Teeth of the Sea in Cardiff & Clutch in Bristol. Further away there's Clint Mansell in Birmingham, Stranglers in Bristol & The Wonder Stuff in Cardiff.
4. Last month I saw ANTA & Acid Mothers Temple, The Dead Rat Orchestra and Godspeed You! Black Emperor and then Voivod, Napalm Death, Obituary and Carcass.
5. There's also these guys: http://www.originalscratchplates.com
6. Love it! But you need a mudbucker in that neck cavity.
7. I remember the ads in Metal Hammer & Kerrang! mags in the mid 80's. My mate had one of their guitars. All I remember about it was the ply body, cheap electronics and unstable neck.
8. I used to have his book "Views" (I think it was called) No idea where it's gone to. I preferred his Budgie album covers to the Yes ones. (might be because I prefer Budgie to Yes)
9.
Some speakon sockets have 1/4 jack sockets in the middle of them
yep, it should have "combo" written on it somewhere if it does.
10. For me the ODB-3 is more of a distortion than an overdrive. Even modded for lower gain it's still too much for an overdrive. The other problem I have with it is blending in a dry signal sounds like two distinct signals, rather than one. If you know what I mean. Having said that, as a distortion pedal it's great.
11.
Thanks for the warning - have you played a JB-20? It's the 60s copy, not themore popular (and pricier) 70s one.
All the HB jazz and P basses have "modern C-shaped neck". I'm guessing they make one profile for all the fender clones.
12.
I'm very tempted to go for the JB-20 Jazz bass now
You might want to try one first, if you can. Even the Jazz necks are chunky.
13. My 2010 blue one is about to become my main bass again. A nice wide strap and the weight is no problem. Of course swapping the chrome plate for an anodised gold one saves about 300g
14. I've just joined another band. First rehearsal I took a Fender P, a Stingray and my HB PJ5. There was no need for the 5 string but both the P and Stingray fitted in really nicely. Second practice I took just the P next time will just be the Stingray. Then I'll have a better idea of what suits the whole set. Then it'll be a case of ignoring the results and taking which ever bass I fancy at the time of the gig.
15. I've had that message about, LH Jazz and RH P, basses that have continually turned up again and again and again since...
16.
No, not Black! Mint, Parchment or Cream. And swap out the neck for dotted rosewood.
And change the body for a white P body?
17.
I was thinking black?
That would be my first choice, to match the blocks and binding
18. Saw them the other year Neil Mackay had an SVT CL and one pedal. Not much use.
19.
Good to see a band with 2 bassists...
That rig behind the P bass looks just my sort of thing!
20.
Like any decade what we think is good or bad is simply down to individual taste. I personally don't care for the song in the OP but that doesn't mean that all music from the decade was awful. In fact I bet that every single forum member could find at least one record they like from the decade made by an artist that was at at their creative peak then.
Damned right BRX. The 80s had fantastic music, just none of it ever got in the charts.
21. one of the reasons I stopped paying attention to the charts in the 80s.
22.
Ok, managed to find a shop selling various hardware items and managed to pick up a set of hex keys in varying diameter for about 2 quid, heres praying the truss rod is a hex
It should be, the one on the Jazz and 5 string PJ necks I have are.
