Doesn't hate active basses, this is a misconception. It just doesn't NECESSARILY work AS well with SOME actives. I use mine with an active bass and it sounds brilliant, but I have seen video reviews of it with other active basses and it sounds like an enormous pile of sh*te. There is also a middle ground, where it just sounds slightly off, but you'd be the only one to notice in all liklihood. It depends on individual basses, but if your main bass is an active then it is important to bear in mind that there may be in issue.
Sure, no problem: http://www.met.police.uk/
God, he just never gets tired of bitching does he.... TS, do a search on this site, I believe the thread on building your own was called 'fuzzy elephant' if I recall correctly. If you don't want to build your own (even though this is very cheap and the circuit is very simple) then you might have to start the potentially neverending search through the myriad of bass fuzzes that there are available. The BassFuzz.com reviews on youtube are excellent IMO, good place to start.

I'd be surprised if it wasn't, not 100% sure though.

Cool, new gear is always better anyway, especially when it's built and posted that quickly. Yes sir, still have the octave, and am now weighing up what I may get for christmas, since I'm not really wanting for anything I may get some stompboxes or something. Am liking the look of the VT Bass pedal, but already have the BDDI, which I need to have a proper play around with to see how versatile it is, since I found the tone I was after and have pretty much left it on that since. Will have a listen to the soundclips when I can do it properly through the speakers, something that I'm sure won't be appreciated at 3:15 am! Cheers for posting them, no idea where else you could upload them though, unless you wanted to try youtube? With text describing the settings/how you're changing them to go with the audio? Someone must have a better idea though.
-
Yeah the BBM is great. I'm fortunate enough to own both the Bass Muff and the Sansamp BDDI, and I use them both very regularly, with my bass going through the sansamp about 95% of the time, and the Bass Muff used as fuzz when needed. So comparing the price of the two doesn't really get you anywhere, since they do very different things. If you wanna go cheaper on the tone-shaping-+-overdrive box then people like the Harke Bass Attack pedal (whatever it's called) which goes VERY cheap on ebay etc, but IMO there's no substitute for the sansamp.

Hah sorry, HNPD = Happy New Pedal Day. Its a GAS term along with HNBD (bass) etc. £54 posted? Very reasonable!

Cool, HNPD! Sounds clips would be cool, how much did it set you back, all told?
-
My bad, didn't realise it had been posted before.

+1 to the EHX bass big muff +1 to the VT bass Be a cheeky lad and ask for them both, after all its f*cking christmas

Yeah it's an odd taste. I have an album, and can appreciate the talent level of both the bassist and the drummer, they are both technically very good. But I can only listen to a track or two at a time, at the end of the day it's just a massive racket.

Nice bass, I have the A5 and love it to bits. How much did the A4 set you back, if you don't mind my asking?
-
^ Yeah exactly, I was just about to say that as well. [EDIT: @ tj] Best example I reckon, as kinda 'novelty' stuff like that can get boring after a while (another example of this being Lightning Bolt), but DFA1979 pull it off perfectly, I could happily listen to a set lasting hours. The 'secret' seems to be lots of effects laid onto the high end of a split signal, but done tastefully, to give a very full sound. A lot of people are very surprised to learn that its just a drum and bass 2 piece, and that there isn't a guitarist, and this is the key IMO. EDIT: Hah, got in there before me with Lightning Bolt, and with a very different opinion apprently

Ok cool, thanks guys, will look into those gauge thingys
-
Hey, sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I figure it's ok here. I'm yet to change the strings on my main bass since I bought it (used), but I have no idea what the current strings are. Don't know the make, don't know the gauge. I'd like to replace them with the same strings. The make isn't necessarily a huge issue, but I don't want to go mucking around with the truss rod, so I'm gonna want the same gauge. How would I go about finding out what gauge these strings are? Can this be done with a feeler gauge? I've heard of them for measuring small stuff but I don't know exactly what they can be used for. Its a Cort Artisan A5 if that helps, because while it may be used I don't know if the strings have ever been changed, they might have just been treated well (I wash my hands before playing, for example). Cheers.

Ok cool, definately just read everything then, should tell you everything you need to know. Then post back with questions on stuff you're unsure of and people will answer, thats how I built mine

Just read this thread my friend, has all the information you are looking for. Go back to the first post and read the whole thread, I promise by the end you will be much more enlightened than you are now. Reading this thread will also probably cause you to build your own mammoth clone as well ^_^

Well it comes to £6 anyway with postage but I've bought one of these myself, they're £3.99 here
