Little Axe at Glasgow's King Tuts Wah-Wah hut - 10 years ago. Mibbe more. I remember Doug Wimbish doing a heavy metal solo on a twelve (12) string bass and that it felt too loud. So loud, in fact, I felt as old as I did uncomfortable and have never been to a proper ( or improper) gig since.

Aye - cheers guys, it is the truss rod tool that I'm looking for. I'm not sure why I didn't think of the attitude forum on Face-ache as I'm a bloody member of it!

Hi, I just bought one of these basses and I'm very happy with it, but it could do with a few tweaks to get the setup to my liking. It didn't come with a truss rod and Yamaha UK were, well, unable to do anything bar pass me along to Sontec. They told me they'd never had a request for a truss rod before, and would need to check with Yamaha to see if they can even give me information relating to truss rod type and size if they don't have any available. Would anyone know what tool I need and where I might get one? TIA

I had a Warwick Streamer LX with the H/S pup configuration - and loved it - but couldn't get on with how it slapped. Or how it hung on me when standing. And I didn't like the oily finish thing or much like the colour of the fretboard and was never a fan of the spade-like headstock. The pup placement/height was also about perfect for finger style play. I've had any number of Fender Jazz basses ('75 reissue necks being my favourites) and loved how they slapped, but was often niggled by a constant search for a fuller. richer tone. Aesthetically they are hugely appealing to me - unless they have a rosewood board with dots, then they are one the verge of m***erdom. An Aerodyne I had for a short time was the perfect weight, but sounded like a Jazz after someone let the tyres down. I want a bass that marries the best of things I like from above. Light, rich in tone with H/S (or H/H and coil splits) that plays and slaps like a Jazz and looks amazing. Maybe something like a Clover Apeiron or a Status Graphite Jazz bass - are there others I don't know of that would deliver what I need?

That's really a fight all things considered. It's long been a policy of mine that a band doesn't really count unless at least one member is a genuine nutcase.

The walloper who sings in Primal Scream. Gary Kemp. Gary f***ing Barlow. Billy Bragg. And there's a special place in hell for Pete Wishart.

I'll add my voice to the chorus of approval - bought a loaded Jazz control plate and it's just perfect. Couldn't be happier or recommend the man's services any higher. Cheers!
