1. Little Axe at Glasgow's King Tuts Wah-Wah hut - 10 years ago. Mibbe more. I remember Doug Wimbish doing a heavy metal solo on a twelve (12) string bass and that it felt too loud. So loud, in fact, I felt as old as I did uncomfortable and have never been to a proper ( or improper) gig since.
2. Aye - cheers guys, it is the truss rod tool that I'm looking for. I'm not sure why I didn't think of the attitude forum on Face-ache as I'm a bloody member of it!
3. Hi, I just bought one of these basses and I'm very happy with it, but it could do with a few tweaks to get the setup to my liking. It didn't come with a truss rod and Yamaha UK were, well, unable to do anything bar pass me along to Sontec. They told me they'd never had a request for a truss rod before, and would need to check with Yamaha to see if they can even give me information relating to truss rod type and size if they don't have any available. Would anyone know what tool I need and where I might get one? TIA
4. I had a Warwick Streamer LX with the H/S pup configuration - and loved it - but couldn't get on with how it slapped. Or how it hung on me when standing. And I didn't like the oily finish thing or much like the colour of the fretboard and was never a fan of the spade-like headstock. The pup placement/height was also about perfect for finger style play. I've had any number of Fender Jazz basses ('75 reissue necks being my favourites) and loved how they slapped, but was often niggled by a constant search for a fuller. richer tone. Aesthetically they are hugely appealing to me - unless they have a rosewood board with dots, then they are one the verge of m***erdom. An Aerodyne I had for a short time was the perfect weight, but sounded like a Jazz after someone let the tyres down. I want a bass that marries the best of things I like from above. Light, rich in tone with H/S (or H/H and coil splits) that plays and slaps like a Jazz and looks amazing. Maybe something like a Clover Apeiron or a Status Graphite Jazz bass - are there others I don't know of that would deliver what I need?
5. That's really a fight all things considered. It's long been a policy of mine that a band doesn't really count unless at least one member is a genuine nutcase.
6.
the Highlands is an isolated backwater.
Harsh, but kind of true I know because my keyboard player moved to Elgin - driving up via the Great Glen and Loch Ness feels eternal.
7. I wouldn't like any of their bands no matter what tbqfhwy. Phil Collins. Sting. That prick that sings in The Libertines. Mark E. Smith. Morrissey. All of Sham 69. The walloper who sings in Primal Scream. Gary Kemp. Gary f***ing Barlow. Billy Bragg. And there's a special place in hell for Pete Wishart.
8.
Does this price include delivery?
Forgive the largely irrelevant (to this thread) interjection my friend, but I loved the pic in the link. Good to see life is so obviously treating you well!
9. One more voice of commendation for jokolono - I just took delivery of a bass from him and the whole process was swift and stress free. Good man and thanks!
10. I just got my first ever GL jazzer recently and these are amazingly good basses. Rather unfortunately, I'm struggling to play it as a result of a medical thingie at the moment. However, I can't help think that the Geddy Lee tag misrepresents that this is, fundamentally, a superb bass from Fender. As someone who has owned and played around 35-40 jazzers since I began in the 70's, this is simply one of the best. They look fabulous, sound brilliant and play beautifully - the necks a dream! £400 quid's a steal. Good luck with your sale.
11. PM sent - I'll happily buy that from you. Cheers!
12. Trade agreed - pending completion. Thanks for all the interest guys!
13. Last price drop before auction I'd say - £400.
14. Did I mention it comes with a functional if somewhat heavy hardcase?
15.
What do these compare to? I'm a dyed in the wool precision man, how does a zoot compare? These are made just down the road from me.
Quality wise - easily on a par with the best of Fender and surpassing most. Beautifully made from the best materials with the finishing a tale of attention to detail and craftsmanship. Sonically they are rich and deep and purposefully capable of delivering a variety of tones. Great basses then - with this particular one at a great price.
16. I'll add my voice to the chorus of approval - bought a loaded Jazz control plate and it's just perfect. Couldn't be happier or recommend the man's services any higher. Cheers!
17. What I was after is now gone I'd be interested in a trade for an Ibanez SR500 if possible. Of course a sale is still welcome - functional hard case and delivery included in the price!
18. £450
19.
My old Zoot!!!
And hopefully someone else's new Zoot shortly. Price drop to a ridiculous £450. I'm keen to move this on as I have my eye on something.
20.
MB1. What?...No Scantily clad models? BUMP!
Have you seen the price of scantily clad models these days?
21. It's been a while - and it's back up for sale - more photos to follow. • Jazz bass trade preferred • Ibanez SR500 + cash to me
