1. Not so worried about leads but I've seen a few people think its ok to put a drink on my amp whilst they Pratt about with whatever there doing
2. Orange obc 410 is the most amazing cab I've ever heard or used Trouble is moving it
3. Might help your health to stop worrying on the details (he said this did that etc) as they just go around in your head forever, and just decide what you want as an outcome Can he can change if asked ? No I'd guess Can you work with him ? No I'd guess Do the rest of the band like him/want him ? If not then encourage them to act for the right reasons If they do, state your case, even plead if you love the project, but if no success save your yourself the trouble and find a new band
4. Tell me what bass you have and I will answer the initial question Yes, have a chat with the drummer or assumed band leader and explain what's going On Hopefully this knob can be shelved and you can find a nice person to replace him Re adding tunes, it's nice to let new members know they can have input once the initial set is learned and subject to the band being able to pull them off, but certainly not during thier initial introduction You say you've only been in 4 weeks and whilst I hope not, you may have to except that this is not for you if they don't support you on this one. All the best
5. I like the new moon , what's the reason for changing?
6. Never used one on bass though I've seen it done IMO rio is one of those songs that should not be done in another key , it's one of my favourite lines at the moment I may just try what your suggesting for fun with my 6string capo for a laugh as I know the line well Doesn't that key shift make you wonder what the band is all about? Edit- just noticed the audition is now, hope it went ok for you?
7. Those cables are neat, but not sure about the "improve your tone" claim
8. P basses just seem natural to me, they are comfortable neck, body and pickup position to play, they sound great without effort and nothing looks better than a simple p bass IMO Odd that I just traded one of my p's for a stingray I've always thought the p could do the type of jazz that was around during the J's invention better, and that the name jazz bass was more of a marketing label than a claim it was more suitable for jazz?
9. What a great thread Apart from Jive Bunny ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjZy-29vy7c And happy to be laughed at for this one because I love it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y56SNOsfgq8
10. Musicians don't play for free, they in fact pay to play, as more often than not they've spent on gear , travel and sometimes rehearsal costs etc.
11. Only once, and the caretaker / maintenance bloke shown us how to "override it" and told us that he had said nothing
12.
it started as a general question.... "anyone else here totally pissed off with musicians who play for free?" no foot stamping, toy throwing, just a Q on the subject of 'gettin paid' got my answer folks and seems i'm in the minority, no probs, i'll get over it
Fair enough , sometimes you need to duck on here when asking a genuine question, no one knows at the outset if you are questioning your own viewpoint or are not open to anyone seeing it differently Hope you find a more lucrative path soon
13. This thread is nuts, assuming we take playing for charity out if the mix, then anyone who plays for free is getting something out of it, that may simply be the fun of playing live as a hobby or a greater plan such as exposure. If someone is exploiting bands by making money out of them Playing for free that is a different issue How about saying all those involved in AmDram should get paid?
14. That's sad, seem like very nice chap who was very grateful to be doing what he did Shame, most people wouldn't have a clue who he was , but I don't think that's what he tried to achieve anyway
15.
My rule of thumb is. Work first, festival after.
This is true, don't hit the beer tent to many bands before your on
16. It sounds like the beginning of a later show
17.
Where do these deaf moron sound men come from? They'd never consider doing that to any other instrument (especially guitars) so why is it considered OK to treat the bass guitar that way?
This is true, they'll mic guitar cabs etc. I Played the gig last year (depping both times) and it's 15min or so between bands, they just plugged inline, when I told him my amps di was good (not hot etc) he said firmly no we do it this way, no time to argue, I was shocked because I have settings on my Amp I like to throw into the desk, but if it's not possible to do this why bring it. They do at least ask what the drummer wants in his mix, same drummer who last year said mainly bass, and his monitor was loud enough for me Anyway, this is the perfect opportunity for me to experiment with this no rig idea, as it makes no odds sound wise out front anyhow, as said before just seems strange not to bring one, I'm sure the other bands will be wheeling in 810s
18. No, have not put the time in, can't see me doing anything more than I do now and reading is not required , time is better spent elsewhere Its a regret not to have done it when I was young and single, but one of many
