2. I know the line but cant read or write dots It wouldnt be to hard to fill in the blanks with a chord chart as a basis ?
3. Is your general knowledge good ? If so go on mastermind with this as your subject
4.
The formula is: Enough basses = n + 1, where n is the number of basses you currently own.
20 if n = 0 then let n = random(5)
5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xwL-7fKKUE&feature=youtube_gdata_player I love the fact the bassist resists the temptation to fill, that's creative
6. Gigged this only once when depping last year, it's more about feel and dynamics than playin the exact amount of notes to the record, fortunately I got to play it with a good drummer The LPB pbass will almost do it for you
7. To get a single speaker to match the area of an 8x10 you would need a 1x30 (28.28)
8. We hire a PA from a local studio sometimes, for £70ish we get 2 speakers on stands, 3x foldback wedges, long snakes and loads of leads mics etc. The school may well like to share costs to use for annoncements/raffles etc.
9.
That's a large assumption. May be you just don't know many.
Yes, maybe I am wrong and some people do pub gigs for the money, but my assumption was based on the fact I have not played with or met any
Why would anyone play in a pub if they had other alternatives?
Sultans of swing I guess round here "he's got a day job he's doing alright" and if no bigger gigs are on offer that weekend a pub gig is fun with pocket money
10. In defence of the NME writer, she does simply state "here are my 10 top, but more importantly what are yours?" So whilst most will agree her choices are lame, she is not saying they are anything other than hers, she is highlighting the bassists role in music, surely we shouldn't knock that ?
11. There was an issue with the original truss rod adjustment, it was out of warranty, but fender agreed to cover half the cost as they accepted it should not have been like it, Obviously any previous issues with the neck have no effect on this as it is completely new
12.
but my fave bassline to play at the moment is 9 to 5 by Dolly !
Did that a few times recently in covers sets, goes down a storm, fun to play
13. Ive a 2009 MIM P bass in wonderful condition , it has a maple neck, I've also a good condition USA P bass neck with a rosewood board I could have set up Does that get me anywhere near with top up ?
14. I think its fair to say there must be very few pub gig players who do it for the money, It seems easy money to the punters, a few hours set (they dont see the equipment packdown and lug home, practice, and 100 emails you have to read to figure out what the set is), but its clearly a labour of love IMO you do it for so long, get fed up, take a break then miss it, then cycle continues Some pubs this way have sunday night band nights, and yes, you do wonder if they make the band fee in profit, if I ran the pub, id use the bucket method
15.
Loving this thread. ...when your 3 year old son sings the bass lines of your set list rather than nursery rhymes.
Ha, yes, remember playing a setlist on th hifi over and over at home for a few weeks each evening during meal, bathtimes etc, went on a car journey and my cute little girl started singing sex & drugs & rocknroll word for word all the way
16. I don't get this, its obvious both finger and pick style are skills that can be pushed to the limits and can't be done well with serious practice over time Love the Intricate sounds and control finger style can give, Love fast accurate aggressive pick line, where the slightest error would spoil it
17. Sometimes people can also think more of you also, for example did a parents night fund raiser at my kids school , classic covers, loads of dancing, great night ! Following week, one of the parents asked me about guitar lessons for their daughter, when i said sorry, but I can't read music, have little knowledge of correct methods and approaches, they looked quite puzzled and thought I was trained.
18. I could understand this turning into an argumentative debate if the thread title was " The top 10" but it's "Your top ten"
19. Answer his question and tell him what your priority is or how you intend to manage any conflicts If your thoughts are not what he wants to hear at least he will know where you stand and if then excepts your position they can't hassle you about it again
20. Do you need to force it ? If you just do whatever is natural to you, you will relax more than if you are trying to focus on the non musical side of your performance (along with already doing 2 of those) Ok, it might not work, but you just may find that you will have something that you could not have invented with thought, and isnt contrived.
21. I think we should have a bassist of the month thread, within that thread only posts about the current bassist can be made, comments, views, links etc. Have the big names in their such as Jamerson, and less know players who have done great work in the background Over time it will introduce as all to some we dont know, and inform us of those we do ..... Not sure who gets to choose each time, but if I dont get heckled for suggesting this or ignored, Ill start it up and devise a system for having different members naming the playing each time.
