I've been gigged by newer basses and I'm vintage Not much to go wrong with a bass so I suppose if it's checked over regular new or old would have no advantage, I've also seen more digital amps fail and gigs more than valve ones

MIM 2009 P bass, Lake Placid Blue / Maple (new neck fitted by fender UK)

I spent so long not enjoying aspects of playing/being in a band due to thinking I wasn't good enough, but the truth is I can do whats required of me to a good standard, yes I can get a lot better, learn to play things I cant play right now, and some even on here would have you believe your nothing without theory, but it all depends what your goals are. My goals are clear, to continue to play in covers bands and enjoy music and gigging, all of which is a self financing hobby where I get invited back. Its more of a life lesson than applied just to bass playing, I felt the same at football for years as I did bass playing, now Im just enjoying things, I know what Im not or never will be, but really did waste alot of time stressing about it

Ain't No Mountain High Enough - Anyone got a good TAB or GP?
lojo replied to TRBboy's topic in General Discussion
Does the standing in the shadows book have all the intricate variations played during songs or just give a basic outline of baselines like some music I've seen? -
Just because I like a band doesn't mean I rate the players highly and vice versa.
This is the problem with a question like this thread, I cant disagree with the fact that Mark King is a great bass player, and by comparison someone like say unknown Justin Crawford of New Fads, played extremely simple lines but I enjoy that sort of playing so much more than listening to 16 slapped and poped notes each bar, however amazing well its done in the context of skill, same goes for most things I like, like America and CSN etc, bassists dont do anything special, but just enough to make the song move you

As title my 2009 MIM P bass, with a new neck fitted by fender UK at the end of last year, hasn't been gigged or left the house since it arrived back Obviously it received a set up at the time of the neck, and has a new set of Strings (Fender ones as would have come new in 2009) Will put pics up soon, but obviously neck is pristine, body has no chips but has been gigged. Lovely bass, and only reason for sale is I am not in love with the LPB/maple scheme, as I opt for my 3TS P bass everytime I gig now (Im vain I know) Price is £350 delivered in UK (boxed and wrapped, but no gig bag) Trades wise Id consider a Natural / Rosewood stingray + cash from me, perhaps a JAP or MIA P, but Id be fussy about colours
-
For that money or a little over you can get a Stingray or decent P or J on this Forum, there is little that these simple basses haven't done in music

Im sure the OP new this would happen, 2 pages already and no one has quoted the site rules on pricing yet, must be a record

Beatles, but because of the context of what else was being done at the time By the time wings came about, there was a lot of bass styles the had evolved Always amazed at what he could play and sing at the same time

Are you willing to trade?

I gather the ethics the original poster is referring to is based on how much these guys should earn So my question is how much do you think they should earn per hour or per week? Just labour , no plant or premises It's easy to knock large firms who make large profits on volume business, they could lower the prices, increase wages and still have a good profit, but to state exactly how much a craftsman should earn is a hard call If the actual figure is higher than you think it should be it doesn't make it unethical, as you choose to use his services or not , unlike paying the water board

I loved that natural p they had in there, kept looking at it every week, think someone on here brought it then sold it again, so maybe one day eh
-
I don't practice a lot but do gig, you could say I do the bare minimum to know the song these days. Having said that, if I listen enough in the car, and often get live versions from YouTube, then I do get the subtle bits/fills that breakup the line from being note for note repeative each time round, but not sure if that counts as practice ?

I'd like to change the colour of my bass - help / advice please
lojo replied to chrisdaman's topic in Bass Guitars
My first homemade bass was black Hammerite, but I wouldn't recommend it Good luck and put it on the build thread -
It was on whilst I was talking to a client, so I missed both dialogues during it as I can't multi task
-
Surely someone nearby has a cheapo you can borrow? So we expect to see your collection in the for sale soon when they start hitting you for all the extras
-
If you've just started and have a well set up playable bass in your hand , just start learning to play, and don't focus on what it looks like or could sound like
-
The squier, mim, Mia issue can only be answered with the basses to hand and the opinion of the individual player, I've always found jap fenders suit my preference As for why the P, it's comfortable to play, just hangs right, only volume and tone, so it's nice and simple but offers the spectrum of sounds , like picked punk to Motown Also think they look subtle and timeless

I have too many basses, but don't know which to sell (if any)
lojo replied to dc2009's topic in Bass Guitars
If you don't need the money to spend , have the space for them, and it has no depreciation left in its value, then there is no reason to sell any of them if your not sure which one yet Unless of course 10% savings come back -
How about now?
Ask again in a few months
-
The reverse is true , if I where doing it underhand I'd have pm'd in secret without posting You also state that I was asking for a price that no one would be privy to? No I just simply asked for a price, and surely anyway else interested could ask as the information was no available in the thread You must be very bored today to make issue with this
-
I was genuinely interested in this bass and could not have cared if the price was printed in size 48 font 100 times or not, there wasn't one so I asked for it, what else could I have done MB1. Private Message (P.M) Perhaps?
Your reading to much into it, I just asked for a price, I hadn't given any thought to underhand tactics like some of you guys seem to think. I feel very pissed off that a simple question has been interpreted in this way
This is sooooo against forum rules. Prices must be made public or risk losing the listing.
I made an innocent inquiry to if the owner of the bass would sell it as I dont have anything to trade, can I now not accept the deal the owner stated? At some point a cash price would have to be put on this bass, even by PM as if a trade where offered, both parties would have to agree on any adjustment either way? Sorry, I do not want to do anything against site rules, but again, it simply was an innocent inquiry about purchasing it.
