    This could change each time I answer but Entwhistle, Burnell and Edwards for making the bass stand out when I was younger Fuzzy Samuels, for making the bass work in cool laid back songs and Macca, for the silly love songs line, which I got beat up for saying I liked at school

    Im in two and dep for others, first in the dairy and everyone knows to check first before agreeing the anything Not sure if this would work if one band got really busy though, but at the mo its not an issue I guess honest and open about what you can do is always the best way

    The positive thing is that your keyboard player wants you to cut through the mix! If your finger playing can produce intricate playing that you can't do with a pick, then you could start practicing but it would take time Otherwise as others have said, you can get some decent attack with fingers through /string choice and how you play, try that and see if you can achieve what they are after

[/quote] Yes, these kind of small bass parts are very effective, long drawn out bass solos lose me, but I get a thrill out of a few bars where everything drops and the bass does a little fill or the like Having said that, once round a 12 bar for the bass and drums at a live gig with an engaged audience always goes down well

    Not sure about the "girls way" comment and the palm mute if your playing fingers? Otherwise, I like the effect on recordings and in certain free situations away from the normal covers sets I do I now often use some foam with flats and enjoy the results
