1.
To be controversial, what we need are more people (in and out of churches) who are willing to say 'you suck'. Because otherwise, if all we say is 'well done, you did a great job' regardless of how good they actually are, people won't be motivated to improve... and our musical standard will continue to fall away and devolve. [/soapbox]
Whilst what you say is true, I also believe that (although im not a christian) the worship is what is important and the musicians are there to assist that, if they can provide a real professional sound then fantastic, but if they are the only willing singers / players and do a good enough job with the right attitude then that is acceptable worship, of course improve, learn and spend time practicing with the church music group. I say this coming from a position of playing in a church with successful professional musicians and those who can only play one drum beat or just have "a voice", its all useful for worship There is a fine line between having a polished band to show in house for worship and it becoming something that loses the reasons for doing it. I guess this is true for everything done in the church context, nothing wrong with it being professional, but nothing wrong with it when that cant be the case either.
2.
I know exactly what you mean, frustrating to the hilt when the next 'new' song is introduced with that exact chord sequence again. There's some good stuff around too though, less of it but one thing we learn at church is to look at our blessings!
Im not really complaining , in fact it makes it easier to busk, but im just wondering why that particular progression is used in modern worship songs, it does seem very dominant, almost like what the 12 bar is to blues
3. why is it most modern worship songs have the basis of u2s with or without you in there somewhere ?
4. cant think of anything rescued half way through with a bassline, but the whole motown Genre would fall apart with straight bass lines
5. I've got the urge now to make a warhammer model that includes bass strings
6. Checking into bass chat on holiday, good stuff
7. Pine bass , great, its better than my first bass its got a real neck
8. I've hated hearing loads of similar things to what I see posted on this thread I've said a lot of similar things to what I've heard on here also, lets be honest, its not always everyone else
9. There have been times when there are 2 many fenders in my house
10.
Not really because if,for example,we are in Bb minor the third is always Db and not C# (which would be the #2/#9). If you are trying to teach about chord tones it is important to make the distinction between the two.
I suppose it depends who its aimed at if marketed, regardless if its labelled Db or C# it shows the user what notes to hit on the fret board, but it would make sense to get it "exam" correct I guess Perhaps the OP should get the correct theory advice, update the program and try and get it in the app store, that would be a nice achievement
11.
Just wondering if it's worth moving to Brighton for a more chilled life.
My wifes from brighton and we love going there, is a great place, dont think this job would tempt me there, id get the sack anyhow after just telling customers just buy a basic P bass and go have fun Good luck GAK, and best wishes to who ever lands this Job, pay according to experience
12.
Always wanted to be old enough to be a "proper bluesman". Nearly there, eh!
Ha, me to, hope im enjoying a straight back and a few beers in the corner of the pub playing blues when im 68
13. Maple rics just look the biz!
14. Looks like a nice rig, but unless you wish to throw more money in to get a decent lightweight combo, you might be best using what you have Having said that, many of us throw more money in all the time and are quite happy doing so
15.
24:15??
I thought you had to be on acid to get to 25 oclock? Anyway, I take it "making it" means worldwide stardom and the money to go with it, or is it the more humble tradesmans wage of a touring originals band ?
16. What issues with the PF 500 ? i've gigged mine a fair few times now, im very pleased with it, especially with the tone I can get through the DI into PAs
17.
Only in their 40s? They lack ambition and drive. Today I'm 51. My current originals band is doing fantastically and is close to achieving more then any of my previous bands of the last 35 years. These days the only people who really care how old you are if your playing original music are becoming less and less relevant in the grand scheme of musical things. Our audience covers a massive age range from teenagers to people with at least a decade on me, but they all like the band because they enjoy the music and we're entertaining. Of course it helps that don't really look my age, have enough hair to still have a hair style and know how to dress in a stylish and appropriate manner for the band without being told. Having a strong visual identity always helps - it's not just about the music and anyone who thinks it is, is going to be disappointed.
Nice one mate, sounds like your enjoying yourself !
18. Its a strange one, Was watching Jools Holland the other day and we couldn't put a name to Neil Finn, but all of us watching where sure that someone in the band most have previous, or the group would not have made it to jools holland at that age DIdn't the band garbage behind shirley manson make it as older then the average ? Anyone re those stil trying I guess there is nothing wrong with a focussed dream, however far fetched, the main issue though is what you sacrifice to chase it family wise
19. wow, not smoked since 92 so Im out of touch, I remember the cafe near our school would sell you 1 fag for 10p, they must have made a killing out of school kids
20. To be fair I think its difficult for Fender to be creative as they have to stick with the basic outline of what a fender is, but Im not sure if what new ideas they come up with are a guy with a bucket of cards saying "jazz pickup" or a result of market research, but I agree most new fender ideas are like a mr potato body with random fender parts stuck on it They should make em like they use to and call them Re issues
21. Im sure you'll have fun sounds like if the original is later in the set you may get out of winging it if the guitarist falls asleep again
22. I use one at home and at low key rehearsals, the response is a bit slow on the E, very handy to keep in the case and not have to set up pedal tuners etc, but i wouldn't want to use one at a gig though, reliable fast response floor tuner for me
23. If your asked to turn down, there would generally be a good reason for it, so do it, if you feel to gig is then something you wish to do again, dont, but whilst your there finish the gig professionally and cater to the needs of the venue, even if they change during the night. Just make sure if the band have to turn down, that the bass is still louder than the guitarist
