In my experience , yes, the sound guys will sort you out on stage and out front (either to your liking or not), your own cabs may or may not make a difference to the band mix you hear Small venues, even if you can trickle some into a PA, unless its decent, will get you some volume, but not the punch near the band that I like, and the party goes deserve to feel in the mix Id love to do the DI box only thing, but I need to cover all basses, as I do a mix of venues, and standards of PA I guess thats the way for the weekend bassist

I missed a change on the 3rd song of a set last week, dropped out for a bar, my mind wondered into something else, anyway, bad mistake but after I recovered had a little chuckle with the drummer and then really relaxed and enjoyed the rest of the set more than usual , think the mistake made me decide Sod it just enjoy yourself Re the guy who walked off after breaking a string, surely you would have to try to Play at least a minimal line on what you had left at least to get to the end if the song?

Warning on amp Please be aware that whatever tone you dial in - soundmen are within their rights split the signal on the input lead rendering the features on this amp useless
. and I have found out that all I need is a decent bass.
Ah, but what exactly is a decent bass, is ash better than alder, rosewood vs maple or ebony, active vs passive , red vs blue, your back in the wheel And yes it's all bull, and theres fun in that if you recognise thats all it is -
yep, there is something about that bass, I also like the jacket Never noticed before that kieth moon duck tapes his cans onto his head, love it
You won't get that instinct through lessons.
Strange how this can work both ways, Obviously there are those who know all the theory and use it in jaw dropping ways, improvising around any theme. However I've also played with a few piano players who can play anything in front of them, but cant do anything off page. Is that down to the core of them or has this been the way they've been taught ?

This is what I love about music and sport, whilst physical and academic approaches can teach to how to do it, there is always the feeling, focus and instinct side of things which are required and cant really be defined, measured or labeled. NO matter what the debate or reason to say one aspect is important, teachable or unteachable, no one can define a real answer or stat sheet to display any proper answers. To answer if funk can be taught, you'd first have to define what funk is for the question If funk is in its simplest form a basic line of root then some "other notes" with spaces, like bootsy explains, then anyone with a sense of time could play those lines and get people dancing So the question then is, the line could be taught , but the sense of time couldn't (or could it?) ..........
I can't slap, can't tap, can barely use a pick
I'm not suggesting I'm the standard and I hope you aim way higher, but I've enjoyed playing mainly fingerstyle bass for over 20 years , I regularly gig with a number of bands. Slapping, tapping etc are all great but just focus on the basics of being a bass player, being solid with standard fingerstyle, playing in a covers band will teach you so much, and allow you relax and become confident with what you can do, rather than focusing What you can't , you can then build whatever you wish onto that

Played an outdoor festival yesterday, and thoughout the 50min set I was comstanstly moving around in an attempt to keep a wasp from being around my hands and trousers (cut off jeans fearing it would go up:)) , after my wife commented I was moving around the stage more than usual and the drummer was quite assumed throughout, it did have an effect on my playing and those you could and see and hear from a distance would not have known what was going on, I must have looked really silly at times. Anyway overall a good gig, but this wasp/wasps were a right pain and only seemed ti like me, anyone else had this ? I know the advise is ignore them , but I've had one in my throat before so wasps scare me more than they should

Lake Placid Blue with maple neck, 2009 MIM P Bass, just replaced the strings with new stock fender ones Basically I like this bass but i've just been preferring my sunburst P bass £300 buys it, open to trade offers, don't mind cash either way if you've a temping stingray or P bass Bass is in good condition, action was high from factory, but thats suits me, just thought Id say though
Maybe & you would think so - but I don't have/never have had neither another USA or a Mex standard pickup to compare to
surely the US ones sound much more expensive Love to know the answer also when it comes

Ive been gigging with a band that has 4 (B/D/G/V) , they don't have a keys player so it keeps it simple and the split is better re cash, never once been in a rehearsal room, low key, min volume run throughs in a house every now and then just to get endings / starts etc, works wonderfully But equally, I love playing in large bands with keys/brass etc when I get the chance, but I never expect to get much or any dosh in these situations, but the above funds the gear I guess
-
All that matters is when you play, you are doing the right thing for the situation be it on bass , triangle , or guitar Even if you prove scientifically that bass is harder or easier than other instruments , so what , im all up for a conversation about nothing, but this has got me stumped
That`s a stunning bass, and to be honest, if I were buying a 70s Precision, I`d want it to have some battle scarring. I`d buy a new one for less money if I wanted pristine condition. History & battle-scarring on a 40 year old bass - if I could only afford one (sighs).
Same, Id want one I could take out and play without worry, you cant really do that with a pristine vintage with its tags on
last night the singer said to me "I'm glad you don't play that 5 string pish, nae ****** point in them things, they should be outlawed"
I dont currently play anything other than a 4 , but I know singers and players who make similar comments and they've no right to when they also ask to swap keys of covers to suit their own ease It really gets to me when someone tries to dictate what you gear you should use, jut to suit there image of whats cool or right
