For those that play covers, are there any classic songs which have basslines you'd love to play but would decline for fear of not doing a good enough job For example, id love to play "hit me with your rhythm stick" and "forget me knots" In the past i've agreed to play lines that I thought might be beyond me, but with practice i've pulled them off to everyones satisfaction, but the issue is still there Anyone else have this ?
Planet Earth or Girls on Film. Original and best.
Agree ^ And if you are trying to get people to really notice bass, best choose a hit everyone knows rather than an album track I guess Sounds great, do you know what other bassists you will feature, also can this be listened to online ?
Not really. Maybe we will all start playing our instruments and valuing them for what they are instead of buying them, playing them for 10 minutes then selling them on so we can buy another one or comissioning new ones that are a hairs breadth different from the last one we commissioned. There are certainly more instrumenhts than there are good players so I see no problem here.
Yep, when they run out of decent stock, they will tell us engineered woods are better and we will believe it

id be completely happy with my rig if guitarists didn't play so loud yes, I love my current rig, but I do hope there is a decent PA at my next gig

When I try out something in a music shop, which is not often, I usually just play the lines im currently required to play, they may not be impressive but its all I can do Having said that , last time I starting playing shake a tail feather, before I knew it the drum, guitar and keyboard departments joined it and everyone outside started dancing

I bet once you've had 6 weeks just watching other bands, you'll be posting that you wish where doing more playing than watching Impossible balances i guess
Surely this is a bit like asking: where does vocabulary and grammar end and conversation (or perhaps poetry) begin? If you're fluent in speaking French, for instance, then you'll find it easier to converse with French people - or even woo them with your poetic verse!
Not really because no one in the world is likely to come out with a french poem without a decent academic french knowledge, where as some people can produce some nice music without any academic knowledge
Metal - Rock - Fusion - Jazz Felt like a pretty organic process. I grew and the music grew with me.
Would going from Jazz to Rock be like shrinking ? I'd really love to play in a folk/americana type band, but Im not sure where Id get the chance, so looks like I need to keep on enjoying the classic covers
Not sure the guy in the vid is doing anything special to be honest; seems to me that Macca did the hard work in writing such a clean and simple yet effective line to one of their more iconic songs? Perhaps I'm missing something
I think thats it, its such a good bassline and the guy playing is doing a very good job, but the line doesn't require anything that would over impress playing wise, guess that is what bass is all about in most situations, just solid with the little frills just enough to notice and decorate the song but not overdone

Music surely begins as soon as a tune appears in the airwaves, and if its by an I can only play what I read trained player or someone with no theory who can make a tune out of anything, its still music You can of course debate the talents and knowledge of each person behind the music, and how well they deliver a pre written piece, and if you indeed like the piece at all Id guess even a child playing random notes on a keyboard is producing music the moment they repeat phrase of 2 or more notes because they like how it sounded

We do this song, great bassline
My pub covers band often plays Sugarhill Gang's "Rappers Delight", which is based around the "Good Times" bass riff. In fact we usually throw in a chorus or two of "Good Times" just to make the point. It surprises the audience as it stands out from our usual rock/blues sound. It's not that difficult to play the notes in Edwards' bass line. Nor Niles' guitar work. But to make it sound anywhere near as crisp, bouncy, danceable and just so damn groovy as they play it? That's a LOT more difficult. We come nowhere near it... Cheers Graham
Great, weve done rappers also(singer new it by heart as he learned it as a kid) it goes down really well with the right age group, your right though, when it grooves it grooves, occasionally it's a struggle

Personally if you are to do this I'd get together with someone who can read and write notation, and have them make sure it's correct, using any software or web tools is to risky There are plenty of blokes with oriental tats that don't translate as they believe, you don't want a musical version of this
Mine has arrived and sounds fantastic through my compact. The only problems are the loud fan and I'm getting an annoying buzz when using the headphones - anyone else getting this? I've tried different leads and basses and the headphones are fine using other sound sources.
Fan yes, but its not an issue for me as any level of player or headphone use isnt affected by it Headphone buzz , no , mines fine and clear , check everything again, are you running an audio feed into the amp , could be that ? If not best take it back

I've got the best amp in the world! (but I never get to play it)
lojo replied to gjones's topic in General Discussion
I'm very pleased with the di on my amp, lovely tone came back through the foldback last weekend Will get to play through a hopefully decent pa in a few weeks and I'm confident that my feed will be as I want it Most likely wouldnt need the cab, but it's a security thing -
Thing is, and no surprises really, considering his lifestyle, in a few of the parts, he looked like he was dead, but had just not stopped moving yet.
I think getting thrown out of Hawkwind for having a drug problem is something no one else on earth could have achieved and still be alive
-
I saw hawkwind in 90 or 91 they where one of the best bands I've seen live, it really kicked Missed the Hawkwind doc last night hope that's repeated

I've also had good experience with orange customer service in the past Credit where it's due
