Ever been persuaded to buy a bass by a band member?
lojo replied to megallica's topic in General Discussion
I'm a fender fan, but no way should anyone be insisting you buy a certain bass for image purposes Only exception i could think of would be if you where joining serious tribute band, but you would be informed of requirements prior to being offered the gig -
Yeah seems honest enough, £40 for a budget/starter bass Id guess it's better than my first one
In my band we always seem to disagree on the set order. It p###es me right off cos I'll write a set list out trying to build up to a cresceno at the end of both halves. Then someone always comes out with "I don't like that song too early in the set" or "why not just swap these 20 songs around a bit" and I end up having to write it all out again.
In your situation I'd advise you just agree to nominate one person each gig to draft the list no arguments, so you agree not to agree but all get a chance to do it your way also I am happy not seeing a list until I get to a gig If there are logistical reasons such as change of instruments etc then that should be considered but arguing of subjective views on what song is best where might be a waste of time in the great scheme of things
As a huge Beatles fan I think McCartney is a songwriting god, but his bass parts are nothing special. Am I missing something?
If what you say about his lines is true, then his inclusion could still be justified by what he was doing with and for the electric bass at the time, as an massive link / stepping stone in electric bass history

If you wAnt the sticker off , take it off and stick it on the handbook , that way it's still part of the case candy

Its not for me, but I respect the guy after hearing his first sentence

I assume by now "in a hurry" has passed, and thats why you didn't have the time to learn by ear So what was it for and how did it go ?
Buy this, perhaps? Fretted E, A, D, G strings plus additional fretless D, G strings. Thump and mwah in one (to me, frankly confusing) package. A thought though ... Band payments for songwriting, cd sales, radio play, tv adverts etc
Jagger/Richards and the rest of the stones get nothing (yes not a bean) from any stones material recorded before 1971 as they had a UK company called Nanker Phelge that royalties were paid onto before being passed onto the individual band members. Their manager at the time then got them to sign a contract transferring all payments and future earnings for everything written so far to a company called Nanker Phelge US. They assumed that this was a US subsidiary of their existing company, but it wasn't and was actually 100% owned by the manager - it seems they were robbed with a fountain pen.
Of all the sad crime that goes on , the biggest crooks in the world do it legally -
I went to guitarguitar Epsom this week. They've only been open a few days, thought i'd mention that: - Lots to see and play with. - Good facilities. - Professional staff. - Finance available. They let me trade in some basses and a pedal towards a new bass and gave a good price. They even called me 'sir' Well worth a visit. watton_earth
You mention trade in, are they carry a lot of second hand ? I am local and mean to check it out, but TBH I don't really need to see a wall of brand new basses as I prefer them already chipped

This might be slightly off topic-ing but ...... If you had a set that required half fretless sound and half fretted but only used 1 bass, would you use a fretted or fretless, and what effect would you use to create the fake sound I only ask as I play a few numbers which really would sound great on a fretless and it got me wondering
-
My first bass was a home made fretless, I then had some awful cheap fretted rockson bass, then I got a fretless Ibanez, which gigged loads, but sold in the mid 90s for a fretted 5 string, didn't have that any longer then the gigs I got it for lasted, been fretted 4 string ever since, would love another fretless but really just play with covers bands now, so fretted 4 is really all I need
-
Rufus are awesome, played the LP regularly until it got packed away at christmas, now I want to play it again, have none in digital format

Is there a uk source of covers to fit the 115 that anyone knows of ?

One major difference is the price , £400 + has to be justified by a summary of the parts differences you are asking about and I suppose the cost of a case

You should consider value of bass, so Unless your happy with everything else about your bass and except you are losing the money, although you can always return it to stock and still have the upgrade items brought
Maybe it's just me but do the normal folk out there not appreciate good basslines?
I think it might be that a good bassline in a song goes to make that song appreciated without most people knowing its the bass that helps make it great, this itself is what bass is about to a degree I believe Also, what is a good bassline, does it have to be different, a strong plodding 8th note might be all that is needed in some cases I am with you though, I can watch solo modern singers who I am not massive radio fan of, perform live with a good drummer and bassist and it makes for great entertainment
-
Most shops seem to have items they will never shift for the set price, I can only guess it's simply worth a chance for a set period which during that time the items are good window dressing, I'm sure they have accounted for them at an achievable price There is a bass in a shop I'd be interested in if it where sensibly priced, it's been there for ages
