1. Just looked at my bass and noted the highest I ever went at a gig was sliding to D at 17, and last gig was Eb at 13 for I predict a riot I like doing jazz standard chord stuff up high, but Id only ever do that at home for fear of getting laughed at , so I don't really need about 1/8th of my bass at all
2. This is the set I played a few weeks back, 3 piece + singer Nothing complicated , but then again i've now done 4 gigs with this band and not once been asked to go to a rehearsal room, just a few hours in a house to sort a couple of things, so it suits me Sunday Girl Brass in Pocket Staying out for the Summer Learning to Fly My Favourite Game Take me to the river Bitch Son of a Preacher man I Love Rock and Roll Because the Night Harder to Breathe Heatwave Bohemian Like You Power of Love One Way or Another Superstition Hard to Handle I saw her standing there I’m a Believer Time after time Who knew SOS Take your Mama I kissed a girl Weak Rocks Long Train Running Somebody told me I Predict a Riot Play That Funky Music Since you've been gone
3. Not really sure what this thread is about But, if a musician is being self indulgent and one or more people are enjoying that noise, then I guess its win win If you don't like it turn it off, or leave the venue (or throw a bottle or spit)
4. We got one done, its like vinyl type material, strong with metal eye holes It does make a big difference in clubs and halls, makes the stage look good rather than shot panelling, dirty walls or curtains etc behind you Only draw back is, you rush to put it up, tie dodgy knots etc, only to struggle to undo them at midnight
5.
We've just stuck 'Crossroads' and 'Stormy Monday' in our set. First one may be over-done, but seems to work well for us. Love the Cream version, so why not? Last night I played 'Smoke On The Water' for the first time ever - and TBH, I think it was very cool. So under-played for so long, it sounded fab!
I love playing White Room by cream I'm guessing its more Rock blues then Blues (which is vast) , if so , guess you just start with the classic anyway then if that works with your band/audience you can develop it from there
6.
Been offered both The SP210 for £350 the RS210 for £300 Which would be the better cab for the Bass Terror.
Mate I wish I known when you came, you could have tried it through my rs210, But I am not sure Id let you in my music room for fear of what you would do to my Sunburst P bass If your nearby again soon come and try
7.
Phaser, innit?
no the whole thing
8. read the title as Mustang Sally at first glance, must have played that song to many times Think there was a thread a while back about playing open strings, which is connected to this question I only use open strings when it suits the sound of the line, sometimes its easier the get what im after by using the fretted notes
9. cheers, now I want one of those pedals
10. Well your only human after all Give in, nothing to discuss I'm only a weekend for pocket money player, but P basses just seem right for everything I do, and they are so comfortable, and we see pros on TV playing everything from vintage to modern squiers Jake, If you remember the Jap 62ri that I used when I visited you, well your welcome to use it for a few gigs if you wish to try one out, its already got chips so no need to worry, and I have a spare P anyway
11. I recently forgot to turn my amp back off standby for the first song of the second set, it was DI'd from a box rather than the amp, so I had sound out front and in the monitors, so it confused me for a minute, but I did then get that it could be done away with in some situations, but I do enjoy the punch from the cab behind But I could not get away with it at every gig, and would not be ready to yet either, I feel I need an amp Just had another shift around, and have lost a few more kg of what will be my one cab 8ohm set up (for pubs, parties and church)
12. Orange Terror 500 , brought brand new on 4th april 2011 In as new condition £380 Can post pics if needed, but its only a few months old, stock and as it arrived Cheers
13. With all the stuff we read about getting porting spot on in cabs along with sealing them etc, has does a flip top lid fit into that ?
14. Keep us updated of your Job offer , and ill pop in sometime and say hello I'll also send all and GAS affected local guitarist friends along when there next thinking about throwing money away at andertons Hows there stock of bits , like flatwounds etc, andertons only sell one type and there not for me ?
15. Congrats on the job I'm a few miles away and have not heard of this new shop ? You there beyond Sunday ?
16.
If you flip the proposition and the question becomes "would you blank an auditionee from your vanilla covers / ploddy blues band because they turned up with spiky black axe of doom with skull pot-knobs and a 'police line' strap" then our answers might become a little more uneasy.
Ha brilliant , yes it works less well that way round With re to metal etc, Still pretty sure a p bass could be accepted in most situations
17. Can be an issue sometimes during the 2nd set if I've chosen to drink and not done what I should during the break , can be the difference between thinking oh no only 4 songs left but I'm enjoying myself or thinking oh no 4 songs left! Answer is don't drink the wrong things till after the set
18. Ok what really happened to you to prompt this thread? Of course these things matter, but only to narrow minded people who like to think things should only be how they see them, and mostly you can't second guess that At the end of the day good playing on whatever bass you have should win most people over regardless of what style or cultural group we are talking about
19. Hardcase, but only because 20 years ago we where throwing them in the van with everything else, now I could easily go gigbag with my sensible middle aged attitude and well arranged car, but I haven't made the switch yet
20.
it'll actually bounce on a drop test!
What bass did you try that on ? and had you already sold it
