1. You could scrub food and drink off your list if your carefull, eat before/after or take packed lunch, and drink water when out
 2. Just got my list for sunday night as an example, some good uptempo stuff, we'll be full band Give thanks to the Lord Hosanna (praise is rising) Hallelujah (your love is amazing) God of Wonders (All who are thirsty) Consuming Fire How great thou art Out of interest alot of top christian bands are playing the o2 on the 11th june, sadly can't make it due to already having a gig booked
 3.
Maybe they just like them.
simple as that Id guess
 4. Think they look cool and sound fine, but I borrowed one once and ended up with a backache due due to compensating for the neck wanting to dive all through the gig
 5. For most of us just doing pubs and functions, I think its clear we mostly agree that names on headstocks are not needed, but as its is mainly a hobby we if we are working and can afford it, we like to have something that means something to us But I am wondering, for those that really do pro gigs, like pit work or sessions etc, although a broadway production wouldn't suffer if the bassist played a Cheapo, would you be judged by the guys employing you on your gear before you play a note ?
 6.
I think this is where a really good teacher can help enormously. The lesson I had with Jake was mostly talking, and for half an hour at the end we went through some stuff on the bass, then he gave me some simple things to learn, but which also demonstrated the endless possibilities. It was very useful in getting me to understand what I felt about learning theory and reading, and which aspects might be useful. I'll be honest, I wish I was brilliant at both but I think a lot of it for me is vanity. I'm not sure the sort of music I play, and that I my perceived dislike of a musical life like Doddy's, merits very much more study, but then maybe it does
I had a lesson with Jake, what a fantastic and knowledgeable guy Not sure if he intended to, but I left feeling confident with my playing abilities (for what I do at least) but with some right hand tips to improve speed, and a big decision about learning to read or not Circumstance has since dictated that I wont put the time into learning, and that leaves me doing exactly what I do already, which I am quite happy with If I did find the time and desire to make learning a priority, Id be booking with Jake
 7.
I'd prefer to play a Sadowsky all evening at a gig if I could but would the majority of an audience noticed if I played a Squier instead? Probably not!
To be fair to squier some sound fantastic through good backline anyhow
 8.
I find it amusing that the OP is getting at Fenders,
I think you have to be one hell of a player before you can start doing that, its like saying standard black umbro football boots are no good due to all the fancy ones on the market
 9.
Have I been duped over the years? Does an amateur really need 2.5k's worth of bass gear to play down the Dog 'n' Duck or in the corner of the Christening Party?? I've come around to the fact I don't....!!
The answer is obviously no, but there is more to this than just what is required to function There is nothing wrong with having a instrument that is way above what you require, some guys buy sports cars, others expensive golf clubs I now use gear that exceeds what I need, but I work hard and want too, I have never lived beyond my means, and when I was younger I gigged a homemade and an old PA system until I could afford my first rig. To me nobody should stretch themselves to have an instrument they don't need, perhaps you may need to borrow to invest if you are starting out as a professional, as you may with any trade There is also the investment issue, depending on how you buy, you cash is tied up, but you may not be throwing away that much in the long run
 10. My Jazz bass before I sold it had both covers on , and I gigged it like that Don't have them on my P but considering it
 11.
i've never been in a church except for a couple of weddings. i hope to keep it that way.
Not much point in you checking this thread then really
 12. I doubt there is any tab that would show all the variations each tine round and you would still have to listen 20 times to get the timings of them Not sure what you've learned yet, but you have to get the intro note for note, then the 2 different 3 chords pattens for verses and chorus , the middle bit and ending differ again but are fairly easy progressions Sorry if I've stated the obvious but it's unclear what you've learned so far
 13. My view is now fixed on that I don't know much and wish I knew everything theory and reading wise, but I now dont have the time to learn it or at least believe that the time I'd spend would be better spent elsewhere, fortunately that still leaves me able to enjoy playing in covers bands, technically I maybe a faker or not a real musician, but I earned back £97 towards my gear this weekend engaging in hobby I'd shell out for with no chance of recovering it If i had my time again , I'd learn properly
 14. I'd be fine , if I had to use a 5 though I would most likely just use the B as a thumb rest and perhaps just start off by only using it for the odd lower 5th
 15. Although I am not a Christian I play every few weeks at our local church , mainly Hillsong type stuff, band varies usaully has bass, drums, keys and guitar. Fantastic lively place with alot of good projects going on in the local community and further afield
 16. I would love a yearbook birth bass investment 69 natural p , but I do have a 40th year bass !
 17.
It's free to use of course. (If you like it however, you could recommend it to someone!) Comments, bug reports and feature requests are welcome! /Fredde
Great, and you can do loads with it depending how many rests you use to make the timing As you ask .. Would be good to have a button to turn off the Tabbing, so you could find a note before it writes it whilst working something out (EDIT it does, my bad, great program matey !) Can you print ? Where is the Tab police ?
 18. Wont these amps push the TC cabs to the limit ?
 19.
I can't believe some of the inane responses on that thread
I can't believe I read it and now am posting about it I am also now questioning what my favorite color (colour) is
 20. Obviously the fees vary depending on the band and the level you are pitching at, but fees aside .... Pros Can be a real laugh Often there is some nice food, even if its not part of the deal, kitchen staff are usually friendly Cons Once you have committed its a serious commitment, pulling out of a pub gig due is one thing (not that I do that), but a function is either a business who expect or an event that means the world to those at the centre of it, so if you have the lurgy and cant stand up or something happens in the family, you have to do it We tried to get something going where every instrument is doubled up, but this has proved difficult Edit. Oh and you get to play all of Bilbos favs
 21. Yep, although SS is obviously talented and has done well getting something slightly off centre into the commercial market, it does nothing for me And yes, couldn't hear the bass like most Later mixes, surely the engineers on later messed up there ?
 22.
Every band you seem to see live, there bass players seem to play fenders. I've played a couple and I cant see what all the fuss is about???? Ive played much nicer basses for a lot less money.
I don't think anyone is really making a fuss, just lots of people opt for a standard Fender, in the same way masses of people brought Ford Escorts The nicer basses you refer to are obviously ones that suit you, but a trusty P or J seems to be a comfortable and capable choice for many, from pub players to the 40 year in the trade millionaire pro vets No fuss
but if you happen to get a killer MIM you're doing fantastically for your money?
I have one , problem is I have really changed my taste on finishes since I got it, but the neck and the way it plays suits me down to a tee
 23.
If you study with Branford, you are likely to be quite dedicated.
Or possibly just have the funds to enroll , although I hope your statement is the more correct
