Someone hoping to make money from referral ads on the page, or even to get an offer for the domain name.
If this is the case, I find it amazing that someone who has the sense to attempt that wouldn't do a little research and get the site to be a bit more believable, wouldn't take much I suppose this also means that self diagnostic online doctor site I just visited could be wrong
2. steady on whoever put this site together is obviously lacking correct information, but clearly must have a passion for the fret less bass, therefore id suggest someone should send him a list of corrections and give them the chance to amend and continue developing the site, it might just be a really passionate teenager who does not yet know what he does not know of course if the said person does not wish to take on board any corrections or listen, then its open season
3.
But are you looking for sound-proofing or sound reduction? Using double-layered PB will be an absolute pain in the arse, and will only apply to the walls anyway - the ceiling/roof will be no better sound-proofed than was originally planned. If I need to use double-layered PB to reduce the volume, then I'll do it. But if I don't need that level of aggravation to achieve my target, then I'll give it a miss thanks.
If you want best sound reduction within a buget, float a t&g chipboard floor over some slab insulation (jablite or celotex) (use a DPM under it and turn it up the walls over the damp level) hang DPM down the walls and tuck wall side of floor DPM coming up , create 2x2 studwalls (use larger if your not worried about losing inches) to create a small cavity off the external skin fill the cavity with dense rockwall and over board with plasterboard (not ply) This will be the most effective way of doing it using standard building materials and not going into specialist sound reduction material make sure to ventilate the space on completion
4. If you intend to use ply dont waste your money on marine ply, it has no advantages over a construction grade WBP in your situation
5. My problem is I used heavy orange cabs and I have never heard anything lighter sound as good, to be fair I still am yet to and keen to hear a barefaced Lightweight heads though do the job, I think its a fair debate with cabs, there are some lightweight sounding light cabs, but equally some duff old heavy ones
6.
How does a graphite neck stop a tuner being knocked?
7. Its pleasing in all forms of music, when there is a section of space to allow the bass to come through, without other instruments clouding it, and then perhaps a bar or 2 of the bass changing from the songs traditional bassline, but when it just turns into 16 bars of improvisation, then no matter how technical or well timed it is played, it doesn't do much for me I also hate it at Jazz gigs when one of the players prompts the audience to clap after anyone solos I also love and hate guitar solos at the same time
8. If what you read is true, then if they did offer a true likeness JJ model, most of us would complain about the quality of the neck, the setup and strings
9.
Selling on Basschat is just brilliant, I wouldn't dream of putting anything up bass related on Ebay now.
I have brought and sold on here and its all been happy, but my last bass for sale on here got little interest so I put it on ebay and it went no problem I'll always try here first, Id rather deal with other forum members, and pay an amount to the site rather than to ebay, but needs must, and there are some great people on ebay also
10.
Go see how it goes now you're "in" the band. But go with eyes open and knowing it might not be a bed of roses.
What he said
11. Most likely everything I use, play or wear So that makes it cool then
12. Basic 12 bar blues pattern with open strings I think Then perhaps, peaches and walk on the wild side (the book I had, had a section on double stops) First lines I played all the way through with another musician where Hey Joe and Cross town traffic
13. Although I cant contribute as my knowledge goes no further than doing monkey trained note for note dolly parton covers, It is nice to see a thread covering a different style on here Good luck with the gig OP
14.
OI!! DID YOU HEAR ME?!! I SAID I'VE PUT IT ON EBAY!! NOTHING SELLS ON HERE, I THOUGH IT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE A BASS FORUM FOR SERIOUS BASS PLAYER. WHY DOE NOONE EVER BY NOTHING?! BEST REGARDS, TIM
Recently sold my jap jazz bass on ebay after trying on here, it sold no problem, although I did take slightly less than I hoped as a local guy came round to try it and had cash, so I opted for the easy sale rather than packaging and sending to someone who might then dislike something etc. Although in truth I think it would have gone OK There are loads of bass players out there who have not found this forum yet, just be careful with the reserve price Good luck
15. I always get concerned about this, but never have a back up (apart from just going into the pa alone) All the talk about back up basses, but the amp is way more complex and unlikely to be fixed on the roadside
16.
Is the 210 still for sale? If so where are you located? cheers
Hi Yes still for sale, I'll pm you with my details Cheers
17. Watched some of this week really due to PJ harvey, but did enjoy avery sunshine Shame about Poly Styrene, she wasn't that old, and with my kids favorite Sarah Jane (Elizabeth Sladen) also in the last few weeks, its a bit of a reality check
18.
Yeah it was basically the fact that my chordal knowledge wasnt up to scratch.. i agree.. ive always been quite a loose free player... thats why (if i dont give up) i maybe need to start disiplining my self..
As a non reader who enjoys playing with a number of different bands, there are gigs out there for all abilities, so whilst upgrading your knowledge of course is always a good thing, its not a requirement to allow you to play out, I'm sure there are loads of bands who would have you that you'd enjoy playing with, but I guess thats not the issue I stopped playing when I had kids, but I was bored of it anyway back then, lugging gear, playing music I didn't like etc, but since I got back into it after a long break, for the last few years I've got teenage passion again
19.
I've never done a show where that's even been an option. Usually it's band call(where you see the dots for the first time),1 maybe 2 rehearsals, opening night. Not reading must be a nightmare if the MD has to make any cuts or anything.
As I said I am not pretending these were anything other than an amateur productions, I was given the music in advance and cassettes of the show songs (remember those) so I learnt them just like cover songs, and I managed then to keep up with the rest of the players, the songs were more like nursery rhymes compared to real productions but at the time it challenged me as I had been and still am, a non trained faker 20 years later and I still cant read I had a lot of fun and would have loved to have had the skills to do this more professionally
20. Im sure some of the pros on here will comment soon I did a few amateur shows years back (not HSM) but as a non reader I really had to do my homework, I spent hours working out the notes in the run up to rehearsals I can say though, that it was a really amazing experience, it was amateur yes, but a high standard was expected Re: High school musical , only seen the films, all be it 100 times with my daughter, I'm sure it will be lots of fun, hope it goes well for you
21. The jist of this thread is exactly why I asked about a 1 cab solution in a previous thread, with the basic issue being when standing close to one cab on the floor its hard to monitor yourself, and i am now understand that height or speaker direction seems to be the solution rather than turning it all up I've always, and perhaps wrongly believe that expert knowledge has suggested raising one cab off the floor would mean bass would be lost out front, if this is not true then the cab in stand solution as endorsed by our friend a few posts above would be fine with me, one cab that allows me to hear and the audience would be fantastic
22.
Link doesn't work
try now

25. I know someone who swears by his bass collection fretless, and he could afford not to I think they must be overlooked, squires get so much attention and surely they must be inline
