If you really have never felt so empty because you are missing a bass or two then you really have had a rarified existence. Pray to your Gods it continues.
yep Goblin, if that wasn't in jest, you must have lived a charmed life so far, hope it continues

Still worth watching, yes, but only after the broadcast with the use of fast forward to the good bits Used to watch everything on the show during the 90s, but its not worth doing that now, this could however just be my age and narrowing taste rather than a problem with the content

+1 re for sale section I also was in andertons a few weeks back and they did seem swamped with bass collection basses Some nice coloured Ps and Ric copies I think the bass collection has good reviews, it is strange how they don't get discussed on here that much They look great (except the logo) Anyone got one?

It is a nice little line, prominent repetitive lines like that will help you get the hang of working things out by ear Doddy or Bilbo will be along to slay you all for the use of tab though
I dont think any 4x10 is going to out do a NEOX 2x12? I see them as directly comparable the same as with two stacked 2x12's would compare to 2 stacked 4x10's which we are more familiar with. Maybe the neox is better than I realise as its the first one I have had after 15's and 10's before but I certainly would go past one to get to any 4x10 or pair of 2x10 for that matter. Do some people just want more speakers for the sake of it?
no don't just want more speakers, less if i could, but i've not found anything like what my old 410 did for me, sadly that was to heavy for an aging tired dad so im not sure if i am just simply a 410 man, or is it that i've not tried the neox212 yet, if you rate it, i should give it a try if possible I think my 212 does the job out front in most cases, but standing next to it is nothing like standing in front of my old 410 Thanks again for the replies, this is helpful, and gerry, thanks mate but i'm in surrey, if i come down for a weekend of sunshine, i'll give you a shout

I did a gig at a private school fundraiser recently as a favor to a friend, the school band used our backline, the bass player kept leaning a P bass against all sorts of things during the sound check, no stand ! and I thought it would go over soon, sure enough crash it did, I picked it up I noticed it was a shiny new looking MIA ! So some rich kid has almost a grand (or perhaps more) worth of bass as a starter, and no respect for the instrument We can talk on here about the differences in quality, but like a lot of items for TVs to oak flooring, you can buy cheap, middle and top, depending how its marketed A brand new MIA IMO may or may not be a better player than a good MIJ CIJ or good MIM Regardless of the component differences, stand at the back of a pub gig with a decent bass player, and tell me if its a CV or MIA without looking, id be impressed

£200 for a MIM fender P is a great price if all it needs is a good setup to get it completely road worthy What is the body colour and fret board wood?

Firstly thanks for the responses, and on a sunday Yep, re the ohm switching option, am not used to that as none of my previous amps have had that feature, does it really chuck full out into 8ohms? I can only say that my old orange OBC 410 did exactly what I want, the RS212 on it's own doesn't in every situation I get into (without the 210 anyway), so although something like the Genz 212 might, I fear 212 is not really for me I'm not unhappy with my current setup, but would love to achieve what the pair of cabs (210 & 212) do in one light lift, if possible, or is that like saying "I want an umpalompa"? I guess a Barefaced or a 410 that I can pick up without getting a strain might be the way to go ... Please keep the comments coming, its all good

I am now looking to switch to one 4 ohm light weight cabinet (one rig for all gigs, no choices or options, so it needs compete with drums when used at small non PA support gigs) My current head of choice is the Orange Terror Bass Does anyone run a Terror with a Mark bass 410, or perhaps a loud 115 might do it ? Barefaced seem to tick the boxes based on what i've read, but how do I hear one ? Any other suggestions ?
This Get a bass that you like the sound and feel of. Funk comes from the player not the bass.
Yes, its in the you But the bass itself part could mean, flats muted deep funky or modern bright funky
Far better we all give opinions, and the OP gets some new gear that really suits.
Yep, but hope he also doesn't run with opinion until he has had a chance to try and hear for himself, that can be costly in the long run, if the wrong choices are made
-
If we are debating what's best, then its very personal, but I have gigged MAG gear, and IMO there is a reason its the buget line of Ashdown, but there are plenty of people who love it, so its not an exact science As mentioned, you can also pick up some great Trace gear second hand, which does sound great, but you'll have to accept the weight issue, which once was par for course, but now its a pain

I'm very pleased with my MIM P bass, feels, plays and sounds lovely I might pass it on soon, funds to go toward the natural P bass i've not found yet, but this won't be because there is anything wrong with it, just digging a different look these days
Wristbands with bass clefs, great idea!
But us fakers would not be able to Identify them
-
If we get wrist bands, are there different colours for "Fakers" and "readers", we can create some government backed 8 page application form to access what level you are

Whilst just replying to another thread, I just began to wonder, who started basschat ? who now decides what happens? Do the donations cover the costs ? is it a multi million pound empire or in debt ? Sorry if this info is somewhere, but its a great forum, Id love to know how it started etc
I too like the wristband idea but it does involve some poor sod having to do the leg work! I vote matching tattoos which neither of us had on at the last Case Hardin show
I just did a quick google, and obviously without haggle, seems you can get 100 printed de bossed bands for 1.35 each (dont go for cheap just printed only ones!) I have no idea of the numbers on here who'd use, but less will cost more and more much less Anyway based on 100, the bands would cost say £2 each with P+P, thats lots of envelopes to write out, so might be better if everyone who wants one sends a SAE, then the band just gets popped in Id be happy to arrange, but would need to be sure not be be out of pocket on outlay A band would be good, if you don't want to wear it, just tie it to your cab or bass or something Perhaps a thread a few weeks prior to purchase, then gauge numbers, arrange cost etc Id be happy to sort this, need a nod from some MODS and senior BC members first

I used to be very insecure about being a "faker", in the 90s I played within a very good band doing functions, I was the only non reader without training, and I was accepted and wanted, but its taken me until recently to take the positives and get confident about that rather than always refer to myself as not a real musician, just incase someone thought I thought I was better than I am If you are like me, I play covers, all kinds, in different bands, I learn the parts, and can produce the details I hear within the line, sure this is done with time consuming listening and rewinding, but come the first gig with that song, I'll play it So where is the faking ? Whatever band I am gigging with is billed as "rock classics", "80s classics" or whatever it happens to be, and I am playing the lines that are needed, hopefully most of the time with good dynamics also, there is no lie in that is there? You don't see a sign up saying "The covers band, tonight 9pm" small print "disclaimer, the bass player and the keyboard player can't read music" Sure it would be nice to sight read, and I wouldn't encourage any new player not to learn properly the things I didn't But I realize now I am no more faker being a bass player because I can't read than I am faking anything else I am not at the top of the tree in Always be honest about your abilities, but try to push them and enjoy using them within the projects that need them What a great name for a Covers band though "The Fakers" id be in it
First of all,a big thing for me is the term 'practice'. Practice is what you do at home in your own time. When (if) you get together as a band you should 'rehearse' and tidy up things-there's a big difference. You shouldn't be walking in to rehearsals and learning the material-it should be learned before hand.
+1 For covers at least, learn the tunes at home, just get together for a run through, some endings, and perhaps sort a few parts that might need tweaking to suit the lineup you have as opposed to whats on the record
