1. If only martin lewis played bass and became a forum member
2. even split usually with what i do however sometimes, its even split after expenses, but these are general cabs/vans/bits and bobs etc, rather than websites or "organizing" whatever though, if this is bugging you, you best deal with, otherwise it will grow into a much bigger issue
3.
I bought a fake. There was a thread about it at the time. I saw a CIJ Fender P-bass online for £350 that looked believable. It was £25 for Parcel Force 24 delivery and when it arrived 8 days later it had been sent Parcel Force 48. The second I opened it I realised I had a rebadged Squier VM bass. The seller was a complete fraud about it and suddenly it was being sold on behalf of somebody else etc, they knew nothing about guitars etc. EBay to their credit (& this was pre-credit crunch so they don't offer this service now) refunded me, banned the seller and let me keep the bass. I sold it on as a rebadged Squier (on here as it happens). It was actually a nice bass but I couldn't really keep it after all that. Interestingly EBay didn't seem that interested at first until I mentioned the postage being 48hr when I paid 24hr - then suddenly all my comments on Tuning pegs, neck finish and volume knobs were completely believed. I had to check about 4 times that they were happy for a refund AND for me to keep it. As I said, it's not a service they've offered since. Must have cost a fortune.
I wonder how many people have brought them and not realized, not bundles of profit in it if your only doing a few What is sad about that is the guy doing it must know something about basses to try that and state CIJ etc, and its a shame to think of someone into instruments and music wanting to con people
4.
Pubs around here pay £200 - £250 for rock covers bands to play 8:00pm to midnight with a break halfway. Personnel in the band is irrelevant.
ditto, usually end up with £40 - £60 for a pub gig, depending on how many the split is, functions etc. vary incredibly, sometimes well paid, and other times more trouble than they are worth this is my experience as someone who plays for fun outside of the day job
5. In answer to a few questions Location is Claygate, near Esher, Surrey Re: Trades, really looking to sell, but I might be tempted by a natural precision or perhaps a stingray, toping up deal where appropriate Cheers

Fanned frets

Its in our nature to keep creating a new tweak to anything, be it tea bags or basses Sure it must have its scientific truths, and im sure alot of people will love owning one, but to me its a tea bag with a string on We'll get to the point where our basses are 100% perfectly balanced and tuned throughout the fret board to a dogs ear, then someone will sell us an effect pedal to make it sound retro again Having said that, I wouldn't rule out owning one in 5 years time
7. As Len above said, nothing like the pressure of upcoming gigs or rehearsals to keep you on your toes ... Lately I've always had pressure to learn new songs as I seem to be doing a lot of gigs right now with various outfits, so its playing through songs practice Always keeping some favorites songs on the burner to learn, regardless of if they are for a real situation or not If your bored, and not motivated by theory or technique practice, then find a band that suits your level and throw yourself into it If you already have a band, then introduce some stuff that will get you going
8. can we define "cool" As far as defining others, id guess I here these 2 definitions mostly from others there is the "latest fashion, good moves" kind of cool and the "someone, being themselves without conforming to outside influence" type cool, totally different to the first definition And lets not forget Kool from Kool and the Gang
9. For Sale in bass shaped hard case my Fender Jazz bass, 3TS Great example of a classic looking Fender Jazz, Lovely condition bar the usual odd ding around the rim of the body (max 5mm)
10. I guess if there are commercial sellers on here that don't have a personal involvement with the forum, we should be happy as long as they post sales with honest details and at prices which the private buyers on here are happy with, a small donation from these guys on point of sale would also be nice I suppose their are enough private sales going on for all members here to gauge the right price, along with the ability to ask on the forum The creators and moderators of this site have created something really good, and i'm sure this would be tackled if it got out of hand
11.
I'm thinking about getting hold of a "low budget" P bass and wonder if anyone has experience of the Bass Collection Power Bass. Saw them last weekend at the show but didn't get the opportunity to play one. Any feedback welcome. Thanks.
Sorry cant help, but have been wondering about these, I saw something saying they were voted best bass under ?? , seems strange how these are absent from debate on here as new squires get well covered Im sure someone with a bit of knowledge on them will post something soon
12. Could someone please explain what it does in a P bass ?
13. It is one thing to slate a guitarist for his 10 minutes in a year at playing bass, of course its gonna be bad But if someone is a guitarist with a good feel, the chances are given time, he'll get the bass also, just as all of us could have most likely reached the same level on another instrument the same as we have one bass But I agree, the guitarist who has a "its only bass attitude" will not make a good bassist, and is likely to not be a great "band" player with his guitar either, regardless of what show off skills he has mastered
14. always enjoy watching and listening to stuff like this bassist players are the men in black, no one notices us, and wouldn't unless we weren't there, but they never will notice, because we are to reliable
15. can it also do a pick sound whilst playing with fingers
16. I used to do this a fair bit, its more scary than a full live band, as there is no room for error, and you don't have the ability to go "once more round" I remember one song had an acoustic guitar intro, which I played, I had a click track in my ear, before the drums and keys came in, I was so worried if I was a beat to late or something Was only small gigs, not sure why we put ourselves through it now
17. Without taking anything away from the skill of some of these slappers, to me mostly its just a load of noise and does nothing for the soul I love a funky bass, and really love the odd popped note in the right place that leaves you smiling, but too much is too much Its like the football player who does tricks and runs around in circles with flashy dummies, very skillful, but it doesn't have the beauty of a perfectly weighted simple through ball or cross field pass
18. Never tried it, but as a listener, a low tuned guitar is still not going to provide what real bass strings can, your band will miss the bass and have loads of chords going on instead
19. yes yuk may as well just stick a solid bar from the end of the next to the bridge pick up if they market it as the cheap gift for a bass players, then we'll end up with them in our stockings at xmas
20. Posts above suggest a reunion , if so congrats If not I've a few part trade options that are in line with your requests , PM sent
21.
If there are no (or very few) outlets left for original live music, then how are new bands going to develop in the first play? How will anyone ever know if they are any good or not? So don't give me all the crap excuses about entertaining the public.
There seems to be an attitude that originals bands seem to think they are owed a chance by pubs, venues and the public ear, the current market of venues on offer is what it is, you play music firstly because you love to, and if you can create an avenue within the world to get that in front of people then congratulations, but its not for others to provide the platform at financial loss Go convince the venue you can pull a crowd worthy of an evening and promote yourself Playing in a covers band is an easy, no time consuming route to me being able to enjoy gigging, and yes entertain a crowd, like it or not we and others do, and more often than not get paid for it
22. Mine currently looks like this, I guess my age means this pile is about the amount required to secure an instrument with the correct date
23. After owning a Ric for a year I realised that it wasn't everything Id dreamed of since being a boy I have sold it on now, Im sure I'll get another one day and try again, right now I can't get beyond a comfy fender styled bass The great thing about the forum is you can afford to invest in something to try it for a while, then pass it on if you don't get on with it
24. This is indeed a mad debate Does a jazz chord progression have to be completely new to be original, or does changing the head make it not a cover? If a band from the 80s does a revival gig, with a 75% new members, are they an tribute, Original or Covers band? Are there any good originals bands, that didn't develop their talent from learning and performing covers? Did Chuck Berry only write one song, then cover it 100 times with different words? Does Mrs jackson aged 69 want to dance to a never heard before song at the next wedding she attends?
