Im always fine at remember chords etc, but really struggle big time with structures, Remembering lyrics is fine, but if your playing with different singers and bands, this may not be enough to reply on just that as singers can make mistakes and phrase things that might throw you I've found recently to sit and listen, ticking off the bars and noting changes and anything that happens out of the ordinary seems to help in sink in more deeply, no bass in hand If I just print the lyrics and chords from the internet it really does me no favors as to helping the structure sink in

Help needed: The Night - Frankie Valli and the Four Season
lojo replied to chuck_stones's topic in General Discussion
Love northern soul and its associated music, this track is brill You don't see much of it as bass clips, there was a good one of the MPVs Turnin my heartbeat up, I think by the jammerson hook guy, or someone like him A bit off topic I know, but only just Good luck with the tune, I might have a go myself later -

Strangely enjoying Time after Time, cyndi lauper, very simple pop tune, but a very pleasing song to play with the group i just jammed it with, feel has to be right Perhaps considered cheesy 80s though Edit: just read your post properly and suggest .. Long train running - doobie brothers Walking bass or riffs over 12 bar blues is a good practice root, make it up, add as many or as few notes as you like over a simple progression

I like it

If you can afford to tie the money up , then do it, but buy second hand I always wanted a Ric, and I finally got one, which I sold on after a year, almost getting back what I paid I miss it, but I loved the look of it more than I loved the feel of playing it, but Im glad I gave it a go One day i may try again, and who knows I might suit me more then

I wont be buying this, im already sad I sold my ric

Notation Or Other For One Way Or Another. Please
Just the chorus. Perhaps I've not got the feel right yet.
The root notes to the chorus are .. not sure what the actual chords are as I just learned the line by ear D / B / A / F* G / B / A / F* G / E / F* Nothing odd about the timing all straight 4/4 Its the same as the verse except you add another root note (and they are muted slightly) and still play another note (lower 5th?) on beat 3 Listen to it over and over and it will come, or wait for someone who can put it down into words or dots better than me -
everyone has their niggles with others, but the it sounds like the OP should move on
I think there is a bit of confusion here. The big guitar factories in China are ultra modern and working conditions are supposed to be much better now. The rag trade is where your tirades should be directed. Stop buying sweat shop clothes, they are the real losers.
Its maybe all do goody to boycott the said sweet shop output, but unless those workers, who's bosses would have no customers, are given something better like a fair trade job or welfare, then they are worse off due to the boycott Most of us fuel the trade, and pressure should be put by us all on government and large 1st world companies, but a just a do good boycott agreed at a middle class table over tea won't help, even though it might feel and seem a good thing Interesting point about guitar factories, I wonder if anyone has any details what conditions are specifically in those brands we use, we should know

For every amazing deal on the shelves of cash converters there is a loser, be it someone to desperate to hold out for a decent 2nd hand sale on a forum or ebay, or its been nicked from someone who works hard to earn a living, I know cause I've been robbed and the police even told me where Id be likely to find my sentimental items should i want them back

Andrew Levy And The Brand New Heavies.. .. Some Old Some Rare..
lojo replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
in the videos of my wedding reception all you can hear is his basslines in the background music, which is good think it must have been the only CD we had there (almost like the father ted episode when the DJ only has 1 record "ghost town") -
Stephen Stills of course or Vim Fuago or (Dougal from this site as I jammed with him last week )

If the sound of the new bass is what you where craving, then regardless of what your current band demands, you will most likely by default seek at some stage to play what you desire in some way, so Id not take a hit on selling a new bass, unless you really need the funds You could try it at a fairly high price and see if someone really wants the same as what you ordered, nothing lost
-
If you've been asked to keep it simple because 1. your timing is not as solid when you play more, or your fills etc don't fit, then fair enough, keep it simple and solid until you can do more 2. the band want it that way (whatever the reason be it ego or a good reason) then decide if you want to find another project that frees you Sometimes, the simple lines are the hardest as they really rely on great feel to sound nice, but if its root note rock, then that would bore me for a whole set, so it really depends on what simple means in the context of what you are doing If you listen to a lot of simple pop songs (good ones) you'll find the bassist may only play a fill once or twice during the whole song, but that moment really comes through
-
That bass is so cool, humble dots and no fancy block inlays, sunburst with the vintage looking chrome, I've a 50th anniversary jazz bass in the same style Clip of the band using one, wonder if it is the same one in the photo ?
THe tune consists of 4x8 bar section, three of which are D minor/dorian and the 4th Eb minor /Eb dorian Dm/// //// Dm/// //// Ebm/// //// Dm/// //// (/=one bar of 4:4) Impressions is exactly the same changes but played faster
The trick is to remember where you are, going into the last or 3rd A part (Dm) its 24 bars before you change again, if someone is soloing its easy to drift off then doubt where you are, obviously Im speaking as a non pro who plays with non pros Where as if you know the progression of some of the more involved tunes, there is no danger of this I get the impression this thread is about helping someone like me, who plays alot, but doesn't read, if that is not the case please tell me and I'll stop posting and leave it to the pros
