1. This is what Bootsy Collins says about funk, funny but true, at least in my limited knowledge http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHE6hZU72A4 Funky music and Superstition are both great, we do both from time to time in our covers band, they are not to hard, and superstition allows you to play around alittle, funky music is rigid, so a good mix for starters This is a great live version of superstition http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDZFf0pm0SE And a bass jam over superstition, which is nice http://www.youtube.com/user/jamersonshook#...h/1/KS6s5UzyOLc Check out Brothers Johnson "stomp" is a popular song, but anything by them has great bass Funk is fantastic, too much to mention, check out the pop stuff and go in deeper later
2. Im sure there was a thread a while back with peoples views on thru body stringing Strangely the only bass i ever had it on was on an early 90s tanglewood, fantastic bass for the money From a listening point of view though, I think in a small gig situation, standing in the crowd it would be hard to state if a p bass had it or not, regardless how good the rig is Recording may be a different issue Anyway P basses are great even without it !
3. I don't know martin, but these are great combos, I brought a 15" version new in the early 90s from the bass centre, they have great features also, you don't see many
4. Yeah, never called upon a backup either! but you always see them? Changing basses, its what I love about the TC rig, a few seconds to plug it in, hit the preset on the floor and your running before the drummers hit 4 Could do it with one, but I love the flats for some songs at the mo.
5. If I understood the original post correct, then some of these guys seem worth avoiding anyhow Most musicians at any level are very tolerant and encourage those with less ability, knowing that they themselves are a world away from where they wish to be, with a few exceptions, id say if anyone is putting you down, they most likely have little ability themselves, all be it they may be slightly ahead of you because they have practiced for a bit longer, this applies to sport and other pastimes as well If your fairly young, in a few years depending on talent and practice time, your pegging order could be turned upside down very quickly One thing for sure though, is unless you are very thick skinned, constant put downs and proud heckling towards you will not help you in any way at all Seek out some people who can inspire you, and if you love your instrument, you will grow naturally and find like minded friends in the same place
6. Assuming a lot of you guys are weekend small gig pubs, clubs and parties like me, just wondering how many basses you take and why (other than for backup) I love playing my flats when I can, but some of the songs I do with my bands need a bit of brightness (from duran duran to guns n roses etc), so there's a reason for 2 basses I know at my level, one simple bass would do everything, but toys are toys Anyone gig a P type and J type bass during a gig?
7. was that for him to buy personally or re sell? If it was to re sell, then I wonder what price he would ask over the £500?
8.
I leave the chords and showing off to the guitards.
Just had to edit your quote, hope you don't mind

Rickenbacker

Yes, I always fancied one and did not buy mine until i was 40, some things just have there time
10.
Wish I'd bought it an hour ago when it was £400... after all it isn't tomorrow yet!
Yeah I saw that, thought I was going mad What kind of P bass is it, where was it made and when, any pics
11. BigRedX Just checked out your band from the link as I was interested to see what you do considering what you have posted re precisions Im really impressed as you don't see that style of music much these days (I really loved the stingrays!), love to see your kind of band again one day (yes I was i teen in the 80s) However I am a little shocked that you feel a precision wont do that for you, or is it more you and fenders, surely some of your piers in that scene must use Ps? Each to there own and no offense meant, just curious
12.
Fender basses are full of design compromises that stem from the limits of what Fender considered to be cost-effective back in the 1950s. Had Leo Fender really seen the future even if it was only as far forward as 1980, I would like to think that his bass guitars would have been far better designed and made.
Even if that was true, then as the thread states they are still fantastic, a simple precise portable string bass, that happens to produce a unique sound that still stirs people today If you want more futuristic bells and whistles, then as we all know there are many choices which have developed from the fender model Its like saying large heavy wooden double basses are badly designed because composite light, electronic enhanced models have been developed
13. I am not a fan of thunderbird basses for playing as I did a practice session on one a while back, but they do sound great If I am allowed to mention guitars though, stephen stills played one with one central pick up in the 70s and I think it is one of the coolest guitars ive seen
14.
Doesn't received (PM) !
sorry matthieu M? only just saw this, i have pm you now
15.
Is Shipping to France is possible ?
I only have the flight case and not the amp, is this what you are after?
16. would it be possible to post pics, or a link to pics, there are many people on here who would appreciate having a look anyway
17.
Strangely, TC have no reports of problems with mixing drivers. Not only that, most of their Artists use the RS210+212. I asked Uffe himself, the chap who was behind the whole RH450 idea, and he said they designed them so they could be mixed. I dont care about mixing anyway, I use a 4x10 with a 1x15 purely because it sounds amazing.
Yeah I dont get this dont mix drivers stuff, orange always promote both the 410 and 115 as the perfect combination and there is no reason for them to if say 2 x 410 was better, they would promote that instead, also if you use pa support then your sound is coming from all kinds of drivers anyhow MM what combinations of your TC cabs have you gigged?
18. This is also my next issue to solve, I use an Rs212 with the rebelhead and am thinking of just going for the rs210 Would have had to sort this months ago if the 212 on its own wasn't so fantastic
19.
1: Ashdown is not as loud as 300w suggests. 3: Guitarists with large valve amps need to be educated! (Same applies to drummer)
1. I brought an ashdown mag 300w, thought it would be OK for what I do, I was very wrong, owned MB or TC heads since, both great 3. If you can figure out how to educate those kind of guitarists to blend into the band, then you should be employed in government social problem solving
20. Find a lightweight speaker you like and nail a RH450 to the top of it
21. Wow how much does that thing cost? It doesn't do anything for me though, which is good because its one of those basses that should only be owned by someone who can really play
22.
Just wondering what everyone thought of pink basses...i have the chance to bag a stunning shell pink custom shop jazz with gold hardwear..its a 62, with the most amazing flame maple neck.....Hope Nic doesnt mind me talking about his bass!!! Any thoughts... its exactly the same as this but with gold hardwear
Like it but with the chrome I think
23. thanks guys I have made contact with jakesbass i hope he has great faith !
24.
@lojo: just wanna know if the price is good for the cabinet only,if its sound is reliable, how much would you give this cabinet from 1 to 10 lets say ? im looking to match it up with an 4x10 ampeg. thanks for ur answer!
cant really say re price, I sold mine for £160 but you rarely see anything to compare it to You cant match this to a 410 cab, this is a 115 combo, mine was 100w (160 with extension cab?) but id say this combo was very good for the money at the time, plenty of features, DI, headphones, Eq etc
25. Have you tried the TC electronics rebel head? It has a really good tube tone and neatly packs into a shoulder bag There cabs also are fairly easy to move, without that lacking punch ive found in so much of the lightweight modern cabs i've tried Plenty of people raving about them, Musicman20 on here seems to know everything about them and also owns the orange rig, so can offer a good view on TC vs the real deal
