1. I brought the 212 with the thought id get a 210 after, but i am perfectly happy with just the 212 I have to angle it slightly upwards I've heard it played by the band that went before us in a small club (120 people) from the crowd, the sound was solid with punch, I am very pleased with the whole TC setup, valve tone is fantastic
  2. I just brought a CIJ 62 RI in sunburst on here of a very nice chap for 450, its already got a few dings so its perfect for gigs
  3.
Makes me wonder what price my somewhat battered 1989 MIJ unlined fretless Jazz would fetch nowadays...
check the for sale, i think a fretless Japan was just sold

    dropping to D

didn't really intend to start a fire here, just a simple question re D tuning thanks for the replies, yes, its tempting to turn up with a five string, shame I dont have one cause Im not going to buy one anyway, as stated will stick with std tuning bar a couple of songs
  5.
Im about to buy my first semi expensive bass. Im currently using a cheap 'Black' bass which I bought for £80 bargin but time for a upgrade. I've tried a few and feel that a Fender P bass japanese 1995 for £495 and wondering will it keep its value well?
I just brought a CIJ P for 450, the seller had others waiting behind me, I feel confident if i dont get on with it (unlikely) I could get my cash back Also its nice to know that you can effectively hire something using its value as a deposit only, wish amps where the same Anyway I cant promise you this, there are better bass value economists on here than me, but I was happy with the 450 I paid today
  6.
Me too... The MIA is twice the weight
witty
  7. i'll always chop and change just for the sake of it But just playing pubs and clubs, there is nothing not found on a passive P bass that I really need Amps is a different question

    dropping to D
No, seriously...
yes seriously, 2 guitarists, all be it very nice blocks, flying Vs (i always say I prefer when you play the strat) and a YES a NO 5 string bass rule Trouble is, alot of the key changes could do with a 5 sting to keep the lines running in the right direction, but as I say I don't have one anyway
What I'd do in this situation is either use my Hipshot extender or play a five string-basically because I don't really like-or see the point of- detuning any string other than the lowest one. All the other notes are available to you in standard tuning. One band I regularly play work with wants to drop everything a semitone(well, the singer/guitarist does)-no problem.....but I'm going to stay in standard tuning. Of course if you have learned the songs using patterns then dropping the tuning means you can use the exact same fingerings, but if you are fully aware of the changes and the 'board I don't see that drop tuning is necessary.
I agree, although for me detuning one string will throw me to much, but I am just going to play the songs a tone down in standard tuning I may take a D tuned bass as I feel one or two of the numbers work better with the open strings as they are Bit of a pain really, but they asked for it, they also have a no 5 string bass rule, which is fine as I don't own one anyway, and in my other projects the singer sticks to std keys so lines can be replicated on a 4 string
  10. Met Mark earlier in the little chef to buy his 62 RI, he drove out to meet me to reduce my journey as I had first dibs on it, even though he could have sold it sitting at home If everyone where like him we would not need lawyers

    dropping to D

Thanks again, Its helped me not to worry too much about messing up the bass setup Will just do it (mon practice and fri gig) and see how the bass holds up I may take 2 basses and keep one standard and just play some of the songs a tone down from usual

    Weddings

lots of comments about mustang sally a guitarist I play with at present, told me recently he can't remember a gig in the last 16 years where he had not played it!

    dropping to D

thanks guys Not really interested in doing this long term, just need to do it for this gig Main question really is, is it ok for the instrument without adjusting the rod? If you can fit a flick of the switch D tuner, then I guess it must be ok? Do many people really use these?
  14. Of all the things you could choose to do in your spare time, somebody spent energy and time on this, its nuts
  15. Hi One of the bands I play with asked me to drop tune a tone, we played our whole set like this and they wish to gig it next week I've never done this before, expect drop a semi tone on one or two songs in my lifetime My bass seemed OK, but will loosening the strings that much effect the neck without messing with the truss rod? I don't really want to set it up different, as no of my other ventures require this, happy to drop, play then return to normal (me and my bass) Cheers
  16. I've been looking at Ps and the jap ones with dings in seem to be 450-600, perhaps a bit more for mint, seen higher in shops trying there luck After some considerable time looking around Im just trying to finalize buying a Jap P bass for 450 (not mint) and that seems to be about right based on what i've seen, or at least I've accepted that I'll pay that for what I want Re MIMs, I put my 2009 MIM P bass up for £260 quick sale and it just slipped down the thread with no interest, I never got round to doing pics which did not help, but no one enquired about the "bargin" either Having said that I think it will go on ebay for more than 260, so I will put it on there soon (unless i decide to keep it, cause it is a great bass for small gigs where you don't want to worry about your gear)
  17. Not sure what id change, Im a bit of a caveman and think that more than 2 knobs and the standard PUP and its not really P bass anymore (and i've never owned a high end P) Anyway, sounds great, I hope you get more than what your after in your build
  18. Not even a comment, thought this was a good price for what it is? Or are people on this forum mostly looking at stuff above a newish bolt standard P? Any thoughts, I could try ebay
  19. HI I really want to buy a bass that is being sold on this forum, but wish to get this sold first Price is £260 + postage MIM P bass brought new around 12 months ago Will take some real photos as soon as I can May have to withdraw this, if the bass I wish to buy gets snapped up
  20.
I like to be able to hear every frequency the instrument has to offer. Flatwound strings make me feel as if I've lost the top end off my hearing!
I'm no technical musician but to me this is what a bass should sound like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2b0f-zR7VI
  21.
I'm all for the banning of "second" or "rhythm" guitardists.
If you'd said that yesterday id have voted for you
  22.
No! Really? Do guitarists like this exist?
Ha, one band I play with has 2 guitarists, I suggested having one song in each set where we only feature one guitar, meaning he'd drop out for one song! he went mad, cant even drop out for a bar, fortunately my other band has better dynamics or Id go mad "Just get any old bass" I agree anything would work, its how well you play etc, but as someone else said "trainspotting" is fun for some
